This is exactly what I needed. I don't like the aftermarket radio in my 94 Blazer and I'm going to be hooking up the factory radio. This will be very helpful! My only problem is finding an original equalizer for the truck. Hopefully a junk yard has one!
Very helpful JP. Just finished. This cut my time down knowing exactly where all the screws were. BTW, I used a half depth deck (no CD), so I was able to leave that center bracket in place under the old cassette deck. A little concerned about heat from the vents affecting the deck over time. I may add some insulation between. Thanks again, great job.
Damn, Man. The fact you didn't wash off those vents before reinstalling is making me cringe. Upvote for the how to remove the vent clip with the pick too though.
I have a 94 Chevy Kodiak c7500 interior is basically from any obs Chevy in the same year. What wiring harness and kit you recommend? Send me part numbers please
Great video. Pro and to the point. I'm a pro uph guy who does stereo. Couldn't have made a better video besides covering the small differences between dashes and factory heads
I have an 88 gmc k1500 with different style plugs, I did get a wiring harness and matched color for color, cd player turns on but I get no sound, plug the old stereo in and I have sound? Did I get the wrong harness? Or am I missing something?
Thanks for this video new subscriber. I have a 93 and when i removed the old stereo i noticed a lone white wire connected to the receiver. What did you do with that? Did you use it? or cap it off? Thank You!
Bought a 3d printer and made my own designed replacement to the traditional spring, as well as now custom making other parts. ... Note, just going to the junkyard like the replys would be a LOT cheaper if you don't alrrady want a 3d printer & tech based already lol )
Is there anyway you can send me a link for the wire harness adapter? I’m wanting to install an aftermarket in my 94 Chevy c2500 pickup, not sure what the clip harness is called, also can I buy any regular aftermarket stereo, all I want is Bluetooth. Thanks !
Hey, just curious, does this process more or less look similar to the trucks without the tape deck and equalizer with the head unit next to the gauges?
What did you do with the sterio head in the right main part of the dash? Its actually the controller, display, etc. Reason asking, if not needed, would like to use space for gauges. Also, what unit do you find best in sound/features for this model truck. I kinda like the EQ, will miss it. And finally, can a LCD style unit fit in that pocket once removing brackets etc. Thx!
You're removing the vents from the factory piece and moving them over to the new Metra 99-3000R dash kit (link above). The equalizer and tape player are wider than a single DIN stereo. The Metra dash kit gives you the perfect single DIN space so your install is clean and looks good.
im trying to connect the factory radio back, I want it to all be stock. but the guy who had the truck before had an aftermarket stereo setup and I can't find the gm 4001 plugs, can you do a video on removing a aftermarket radio and installing the stock on back on? mine is a 1990 chevy k1500
Bought a 93 c1500 recently. Owners had an aftermarket radio in it with no faceplate so I got a cheap new one, gets power but no audio... can't figure out why. All wires are correct.
Do you have to reinstall that radio/amplifier underneath the dash..? I just wired up my new stereo into my 92c1500 and I had no sound come out there speakers.
hey so at about 6:00 the clips for the bottom to keep it in, you completely skipped showing those, i’ve been tryna find some for my dash bcuz some one broke in and stole my stereo and just took the whole dash piece
I have a 93 GMC Sierra c1500. I am trying to install an after market stereo but am having issues. I have the correct wiring harness and even have it correctly spliced into my new stereo but I don’t get any power to the stereo. Any idea what this could be? The truck only has stereo, no cassette deck or anything else.
I have a deck already in my truck but it doesn’t have AUX port or Bluetooth.. how you put a new deck in??? I have a deck already in it but it’s a CD one and wanna get a one with Bluetooth or a one with a AUX one
Please help. I took out the after market radio to access my ac vents to put new retainers and when I put the radio back in it lost power and my inside lights flash on and off real dim. Idk what happened, just when I pushed it back in something happened. I had to unplug the radio for the lights to stop flashing.
@@jptheinstallguy I actually checked my fuses after I posted this comment and sure enough the “ctsy” (courtesy) 20 amp fuse was blown. Whoever installed the radio didn’t protect the loose wiring and just left it all exposed so I’m assuming one of them touched each other or some metal. I replaced the fuse and wrapped all the cut wires in electrical tape. All is good now. I’m no electrician that’s why I was freaked out lol.
Is it possible to put the radio into the original location of the stock radio? Where all the controls are? I think it’s be a better look and easier to control from the driver seat
HI, the video was very helpful getting the radio out, but I am confused with the wiring, the Metra wire harness 70-2001 doesn't fit with the 2 hookups that you moved to face the new stereo. I think you say you just need the blue one, is that right? Or do you also plug the black one into the same Metra wire harness 70-2001? Thanks!
www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/stereo-wiring-harness/metra-stereo-wiring-harness-gmwh1/207609_0_0 this harness fit the vehicle, if the one listed in the description does fit a 94 Chevy Pickup I did not know how to plug both hookups into it.
There is a special kit for that, but you have to cut the lower dash out. But you do not need a double din. There are single din radios which have a sliding 7 inch touch screen.
Thank you for the vid JP. Just curious if the factory display still works showing the clock after this. Or is that factory unit just completely dead when you install this way?
Factory unit is completely dead. When you unplug the tuner harness, you cut power to it. There's a storage cubby available online that bolts in place of the factory stereo.
Great video! Saved me a bunch of time.. I do have one problem tho. I replaced 4x6 in my dash and pillars. When the engine is not running all speakers sound loud and clear.. but when engine is running I get crackling from speakers . I’m going crazy trying to figure out the problem. Do you have any idea what it can be?
I have one question I am trying to find one for my 94 pickup as well but I am having a hard time understanding what happens to the control panel on the dash. I mean the top control stereo that is where the radio is usually controlled so what happens to that when you put the new stereo in?
The control panel on the dash will be dead because the CDM controls the clock as well as the radio. I have a 1993 and the method in this video produces a dead control panel... so I'm going to keep my CDM in and try to wire a radio in another way.
So I have that same radio and did all of the steps and it still does not work I know the wiring is right but I don’t know where the fuse or the relay is so if someone could tell me where it is I would appreciate it
Hello I have a 1990 Gmc Sierra and my radio and inside lights worked fine before I tried to hook up this tow light to my cigarette lighter input then everything stopped working, I don’t want to buy a whole new radio (that silver box under everything) if that’s not what I need, And all my fuses are good, what should I do bro?
So I got a question/need some help. I installed a car radio with new front speakers and only the right front speaker worked not the left. What can be the reason? Any advice will help. Its a 90 chevy silverado c1500. Thanks man
Hi my husband has a 1991 Chevy Silverado every time he turns radio on hardly any radio stations come in and when they do it staticky he has a brand new CD player with brand new speakers he thinks it's the antenna wire in the antenna
if you have a multimeter or some sort of voltage meter check the the voltage on on the red, yellow, and black wire to make sure the voltage is there if not than there is a fuse blown somewhere that you might have not seen
It seems a little goofy to put the new radio in the tape slot. Wouldn't it be more practical to put it where the factory head unit went since you wouldn't have to lean over to change the station.
these are the best how to's i've watched yet. Contents good, layouts good, camera work is good.

How do I reinstall vents with the retaining clips? Mine popped off when removing.
Can you go double den on these trucks? Got a 1991 chevy C3500 and looking to add a backup camera for hauling and need a double den to do that.

Factory unit is completely dead. When you unplug the tuner harness, you cut power to it. There's a storage cubby available online that bolts in place of the factory stereo.
That helped other then the fact my gm wire harness is cut off so not sure what do to abt that

You mount the radio bracket in the hole. Once the dash part is back in place, you slid the radio in.
