I just installed this kit in my car today. Works perfectly. I now have a button for CDC (cd-changer) wich enables the ipod/aux.
Took me 20 minutes including a beer in the end.

@camry4ever Actually, E39 has one the highest quality panel materials and solid design. Therefore you can assemble it back without any problems. And the kit is not stupid as the sound quality and song selection makes your ride much more enjoyable. Giving the fact that we sell more than dozen bmw kits every months, many people out there agree with me ;). But your comment is funny.

@maximilianlindner That is correct, if your car is equiped with a DSP system, the kit will not work. If you have DSP, it will be stated on the from of the radio.

Great video, When I got my E39 it already had some hackjob where an indy put in the cheapest Alpine deck unit money could buy (that blue hue piece of crap they sell at bestbuy.) How I wish it had the factory unit to upgrade, and I plan to find a replacement and add in a simple AUX cable. This should come in handy when I do.

Why is this entire extra harness necessary? Can't you just remove the plug where the CD changer plugs in and replace it with a plug that connects to an iPhone?

The default CD changer is located in the trunk of the car, (90's tech for ya.)
While you could in theory re route the cable from the CD changer to an Aux cable, the stereo would likely freak out due to the extreme amount of computing BMW even put into a car 16 years old, The ECU is constantly running checks over each system and would likely either just not work or trigger a metric F-Ton of error codes if you tried a hackjob like that...
With BMW you do it right, or not at all...

Thanks, I found it very helpful to install the AUX kit OE 82110149390. The OE instructions do not include the fact that the bracket is located behind the CD player.

there is an easier way to run the wire to that spot without removing the center panel. and the way he showed you what to do is not hard aswell.
