Just wanted to message to thank you for this video , the wife was nagging me about it for ages . I have checked mine today and the ds rear the caliper had no tension on the spline at all! , I tightened but could barely see in the hole but difference is amazing! , it will do until I can take out the discs and pads next year. Want to do the calipers properly, so will fix it better then 😆
Have a banging xmas sir Tim 🎩 another fine example of your automotive technological inspirational knowledge that you have passed on to the viewing public 👍
Thanks for watching. Sometimes you can get away with adjusting just the cable but sometimes the shoes need adjusting too. If the lever feels good but the handbrake still isn’t great, it’s time to adjust the shoes 👠
Inside the cabin if you remove the two bolts as you show if you firmly pull on the grab handle it will lift off. You can then see a adjuster nut which is easy to get at.
@@johnh1872 I thought it should come out and tried that before struggling, but it really didn’t want to move on this and felt like something would break before it did 😬
@StupidBlokeStupidVideos . It does come out . On RUclips there is a video showing him doing it. He just gsve it a good tug from drivers seat and out it popped. Nothing broke. I'll try and find out who posted it.
You can do, just to make sure that the calliper isn’t giving you a false feeling of the bind. Usually pulling the calliper towards yourself on it’s sides slightly is enough though, and if I remember right the callipers are a bit of a pain in the arse to get off on these.
You may need to take the disc off and take the adjuster out, or maybe you can get some heat on it with a little blow torch but probably be hard through the hole
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos thank you for replies it means a lot, the disc spins loose (with a tiny bit of resistance) I’ve walloped it with the hammer a few times but I only get a little play, do I have to keep hitting it hard on the hub endlessly until it comes off?
@@seeyouintheeighties no problem, I try to reply all comments on my vids! I’m assuming you’ve taken the calliper off and the screws out already? If so then yea basically. It’s probably seized to the hub in the centre. If you’re not replacing the disc then sometimes you’re got to keep hitting the centre “drum” part of the disc to try shock it loose. If you’re replacing it then they will usually come off by hitting the disc outwards, but will damage the disc doing it that way.
Hi mate . I only tighened the cable not knowing about rear shoes. But back brakes were started shuddering. Braking from high speeds. Guess i fucked up Any ideas. Great channel.
@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos yes mate slackened more ,than it was when I started . Seen a few vids but nobody mentioned about adjustment of shoes. Guess ,il book it in get ur done properly. Thanks mate.
@@rodneyporter3320 sounds like the shoes may have delaminated inside. Depending on the type you have, they can be an absolute bitch to change on these if I remember right.

Top tip. Engage the parking brake. Nice. Thank you

It’s a common Herring Gull mating call.
Awesome video, dude. Other videos say you have to remove the wheel hubs!
Thanks mate. Yea to replace the shoes the hub has to come off, but to adjust them it can stay in place
Happy Christmas and a happy new year to you Tim and your family

Thanks for the video', my Kia proceed diesel must be the same, I just did the cable because I didn't know about the shoes adjustment.

Mine has a foot operated handbrake. Can you do a video of how to adjust it on the inside?

Wheel hub off I believe 😬
When you slackened off the handbrake cable ... what was stopping the car from rolling away?
Left the shitter in gear iirc, but it was on flat ground

The hole through is not at the top when you adjust as the adjuster lies along the bottom as I have been doing them for yrs
