For the price of this thing a TS100 is only about twice as expensive (at least when they go on sale), so yeah IMO these need to be a little cheaper before they're worth it.

Overshooting is a combination of lack of thermal balance, which needs some mass and some radiating area, and lack of PID control. You need either the one or the other. So say TS80/100 and T12 have PID in firmware, which incurs some complexity, because these kinds of tips aren't really intended to be run otherwise. My prediction is that they will come down to around $15 from China (as opposed to $5 for the simple USB ones) and be a decent value at that price. Right now it's in a bit of a no man's land where it's not quite cheap enough to be cheap and not quite good enough to be good. But i guess if you need something that would work on a standard 5V power bank, you could do worse.
