The overwhelming consensus (not just this one video) seems to be that the new format is greatly disliked. When rule changes turn fans off like this a sport cannot survive. Terrible. Will ISSF wise up and save their sport?
Agreed, it means a player can get away with even scoring below 8 and still be in the medal contention where as in the previous format it's hard to stay in the group if you score like an 8 Or below
This is soooo boring. The old format was more fun and engaging to watch. Now I fall asleep in the time between the games that goes on, and on, and on forever. So I don’t really get why they changed it, it’s not necessarily the person with highest total score in the finals that wins, and it doesn’t really promote how fun shooting air pistol can be. Which means there will be less interest to start competing in air pistol. I would propose a format where the 16 best in the qualifications goes on to the finals. Before the finals begin all the athletes get a couple of minutes to do the practice shots, after that no more! The finals would consist of a quarter final, semifinal, and a final with four athletes in each and the two best advances. When the athletes get called up they have 60s to get ready for the competition to start, if you’re not done in that time you are disqualified. The same 60s rule applies after the quarter and semifinal. You don’t need more time than that to lift a can of pellets on to a table, put on a pair of glasses and pull the safety flag out of the pistol. The finals would consist of 10 shots during 8 minutes. The highest score with decimal interpretation wins.

New final format is so confusing and totally unattractive. This is huge drawback for shooting sport. Disaster!

Interesting new rules. Every shot is practically a separate match. The end match till 16 dots is a fantastic idea.
