I've seen Donna Murphy in 7 shows and this has been my favorite performance. It was completely over the top which at first I thought was too much. Then I remembered we were in a 2,700-seat theater. She knew exactly what she was doing.
I have just been watching and listening to a lot of Donna Murphy clips. No doubt the lady has presence, star quality, but she sings sharp. Very sharp. I don't remember this from years gone by when she was plying her craft in the Boston area and I saw her in several shows. I don't remember it from the cast album of Passion, either. Now I will admit I am not a huge fan, so I haven't raced out to by the cast albums from Wonderful Town, her version of The King and I, etc. so her voice is not strongly in my ear. I think I would rather see her than just listen to her.
Such a trooper, she was born for this role .,
Those are some excellent boys.
