"probably a darker shade underneath." Yes. The entire torso is the black plastic that the tank top is. So they painted flesh tone over it because it would be cheaper than using a flesh tone torso and painting it all black. Unfortunately, likely to keep production pacing, they didn't spray enough on some figures and that black plastic shows through. I actually had to re-paint mine because it was extremely bad.
There is a pose the Valaverse version can get into that the Hasbro cannot. The Valaverse figure can slightly lean forward, jut out his chin and point at the subject in a demonstrative way. I can't do that with Hasbro Sarg.
