- March 14, 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the verdict in the Jack Ruby trial in Dallas. This high-profile “trial of the century” generated international media attention and, less than four months after the Kennedy assassination, a great deal of emotion. Drawing from original Western Union telegrams in the Museum’s Judge Joe B. Brown, Jr. Collection, staff members at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza present a series of quotes that provide a unique window into the mood of a nation and a broad range of feelings about Jack Ruby and the city of Dallas.
I loved listening to the staff of the Museum read these emotional telegrams. Fantastic!
Steve, it looks like you have lost weight. Keep up the good work with all you do for the 6th Floor Museum.
Awesome upload. Very informative n interesting to go back 60 years to feel the mood of the country at that period of time. Kudos to Sixth Floor Museum. As always ur uploads are very meaningful info. Keep up the GOOD work !!! Don't let President Kennedy be forgotten in TIME to a newer generation! Peace
Great insight into the attitudes back then.
Still need all the answers…
How sad that these people actually spent their hard earned money sending these meaningless dispatches to a judge who not only never read them, but couldn't care less (nor should he) what they said. Were people really that dumb back then? Telegrams weren't cheap to send either. But really I'm just here to say that it is a shame that no one else in Dallas who witnessed the assassination is alive for the Sixth Floor to interview anymore. I enjoyed most of the interviews, but videos like this make it clear that those days are over.
Not true, we have several upcoming programming interviews, we are simply trying new ways of showcasing artifacts in our collection, of which we have over 95,000. Thanks for the feedback.
Even if you think Jack Ruby was justified in killing Oswald, it doesn't change the fact that he deprived us of closure in the assassination, which is probably one reason why there are so many conspiracy theories surrounding it today (including those that implicate Ruby himself).
Thank you. Great insight into the zeitgeist of the time. Still think Oswald was either not or solely responsible. America now and back in 1963 was not a banana republic therefore a trial for Oswald was necessary. We didn’t get it - so no justice for President Kennedy, no justice for Americans.
Done in a very "PBS documentary" style. 😅 But I wasn't aware folks had sent these telegrams back then. Quite interesting. And "Shame Shame" girl was kind of cute. 😁
Remarkable, and understandable, immediate reactions of the time. Nowadays, we know that Oswald was not a killer, Ruby was determined, for three days, to kill him, anyway. Oswald was framed by the phony wallet that Det. Westbrook said was "found" at the Tippit murder scene, only to have the actual wallet on Oswald, when arrested. Etc. ... Anyway, as others have said, thanks for another context for strong emotions of the time.
Shame girl needs her own channel. Hilarious
