  • Allegedly a religious site since 917, and rural Warwickshire's largest parish church, the present church of St Edith dates from 1077, when it was founded as a as a priory to the Benedictine Abbey of St Nicolas in Anjou, France.
The church was substantially rebuilt in around 1380 and then in 1415, King Henry V transferred the priory to the Carthusians of the Isle of Axholme, Lincolnshire. During the 100 years war with France the dedication of the church was changed to St Edith of Polesworth, a Warwickshire Saint. Surviving the reformation, the church was restored in the Victorian period.
