I love how all the female bees have beehive hairstyles, and all the males have buzz cuts. That's freaking genius. This movie is downright insane at times, but the nostalgia and meme value make it very enjoyable!
Definitely one of the most weird movies I've seen, but I can't help but get some enjoyment out of it. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking. I didn't get the Larry King joke as a kid, even though it was flat out obvious. Now I think it's the funniest joke in the whole movie. An unBEElivably underrated movie, in my opinion.
Eh, I don't think it's underrated, maybe just overhated. Most people know about it, but it gets a lot of hate just for being a fever-dream movie, even though Shark tale doesn't.
A lot of people think this movie is either cringie or random but i freaking love it, i grew up watching all the Dreamworks films and this one was always one of my faves
This movie was just a bad joke told by Seinfeld to Spielberg over lunch. Spielberg liked the idea and they made this gem of a movie. The joke: We should make a "B" movie (bad movie) and actually use bees.
@ 4:35 I think they do, the honey is the reason bee colonies can live through winter while in case of the wasps, all but the queen die which hibernates the winter.
Imagine sitting down with someone and randomly and casually bringing up in conversation, "Yeah, I'm planning on suing the human race with a bee that I met and fell in love with after only a few weeks."
I saw this at the movie theater as a kid when it came out and I was a very naive 7 year old. As an adult I owe Ken an apology since he was the only plain person in the movie. Most of the law stuff wasn’t even legal or possible. You gotta watch this lawyer who reacts to bee movie and you’ll definitely agree to what he says.
Ken's the best character in the film precisely because he's the only one who sees how totally bonkers everything is. Well that, and Patrick Warburton's performance resulting in him getting most of the film's funniest lines ("FINE! Talking bees, no yogurt night, my nerves are FRIED from riding on this EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER!")
Bees do not have lungs, therefore them coughing in here is not scientifically accurate. For another, all the smoke actually does is mask their sense of smell and trick them into thinking there's a fire, during which they eat their own honey to relax. Another big thing here is that no self respecting beekeeper would ever use something like tar or nicotine in their smokers. It irritates bees something horrible. Best smoker fuel is all natural stuff like pine needles, dried citrus peel, and any dried herbs you can get your hands on. They'd also never flood them with smoke like that either. If you're doing your job right, all you need is a few puffs, one when opening the box to let them know you're there, then a few more to do what you need to do. If Barry was smart, he'd have sued the one farm for gross negligence.
I love how animated movies back in the days are able to go wild and creative, without being bound to too much common sense, which makes these movies so fun and iconic.
The "bumblebees shouldn't be able to fly" statement comes from applying humanity's observation of physics to an insect. But the thing is when you're a hundred times smaller and a thousand times lighter, physics work a little differently. Air molecules are proportionately more massive and dense relative to a bee, so when you're at this scale the physics of flying is less like a plane and more like a rowboat. Yeah, it hurt my brain too when I learned about that one.
Ahhh the bee movie, the meme goldmine. I remember when the entire script in tiny font was the the most popular one. The internet is home to some nasty stuff, but the memes? The memes are wonderful and innovative 😂
You know what, sometimes I'm really glad that I'm ace because somehow I misread the relationship between Barry and Vanessa as purely platonic as a kid. Being partially blind to romance can be useful sometimes.
I'm convinced that watching this movie while drunk, high or whatever (probably a combo of those) would make it less weird... As for the legal segment of the movie, many people on RUclips have covered and analysed it...
Fun fact about the random ant tattoo comment, because this movie should at least be a learning experience if anything else. Ants and Bees are both descendants of wasps. Not exactly the modern wasp, but slightly older wasps. If (for some reason) you've ever looked closely at a wasp, bee and ant you'll see the similarities! So ant tattoo is I suppose like suggesting you get an orangutang tattoo?
Sophie: "We're going to check out this movie for the very first time." Actually, Sophie, do you remember that, when watching 'A Bug's Life', you said that you remembered a scene about an insect that was about to be stepped on by a boot? It was actually the scene where Ken was about to squash Barry and Vanessa saved Barry by placing a glass on top of him. So you might have already seen this movie before.
Welcome to the group of people that lost brain cells after watching this movie This is my first time rewatching it in a while so I guess I lost more haha
Right after the SEINFELD TV show ended and Jerry Seinfeld was a hot ticket in Hollywood he met with Steven Spielberg at his home for an evening. And Spielberg told him to pitch anythng and he'd make a movie about it. Seinfeld said "well how about a b-movie featuring real bees?" And Spielberg I've heard said, "Done." Or something to that effect. Does that help it make better sense?
And then in one of the trailers, Steven Spielberg gave Jerry Seinfeld the recommendation of turning it into an animated film after the live action version wasn't going very well.
The reason why farmed bees stay in the beehives that humans build for them is because the farm hives are safer and sturdier. The bees are free to move away and build a new nest somewhere else any time they want, they simply choose not to. This movie is nothing more than trying to copy the Chicken Run formula.
@@videohistory722 How? Chicken run is literally just about escaping the farm. Bee movie takes it several steps further and even has the main character unaware of the plight in the first place. Bees flap their wings the same way hummingbirds do, that allows them to fly without breaking the rules of aviation. I don't know why people didn't figure this out when smartphones became more common
This is the most weirdest Dreamworks movies I remember growing up. I once watched a video on why bees are able to fly. While we tend to think of flying as flapping wings going up and down, apparently bees' wings flapping back and forth. My guess that it helps with lift because the body is not in the way.
fun fact, only female bees have stingers.... so Barry and all male bees in the movie are Transgender! and not superior because females are the top dogs in a hive
