Definitely one of the most weird movies I've seen, but I can't help but get some enjoyment out of it. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking. I didn't get the Larry King joke as a kid, even though it was flat out obvious. Now I think it's the funniest joke in the whole movie. An unBEElivably underrated movie, in my opinion.

Ken's the best character in the film precisely because he's the only one who sees how totally bonkers everything is. Bees do not have lungs, therefore them coughing in here is not scientifically accurate. For another, all the smoke actually does is mask their sense of smell and trick them into thinking there's a fire, during which they eat their own honey to relax.
Another big thing here is that no self respecting beekeeper would ever use something like tar or nicotine in their smokers. It irritates bees something horrible. Best smoker fuel is all natural stuff like pine needles, dried citrus peel, and any dried herbs you can get your hands on.
They'd also never flood them with smoke like that either. If you're doing your job right, all you need is a few puffs, one when opening the box to let them know you're there, then a few more to do what you need to do.
If Barry was smart, he'd have sued the one farm for gross negligence.

The "bumblebees shouldn't be able to fly" statement comes from applying humanity's observation of physics to an insect. But the thing is when you're a hundred times smaller and a thousand times lighter, physics work a little differently. Air molecules are proportionately more massive and dense relative to a bee, so when you're at this scale the physics of flying is less like a plane and more like a rowboat.
Yeah, it hurt my brain too when I learned about that one.

Fun fact about the random ant tattoo comment, because this movie should at least be a learning experience if anything else. Ants and Bees are both descendants of wasps. Not exactly the modern wasp, but slightly older wasps. If (for some reason) you've ever looked closely at a wasp, bee and ant you'll see the similarities! The reason why farmed bees stay in the beehives that humans build for them is because the farm hives are safer and sturdier.
The bees are free to move away and build a new nest somewhere else any time they want, they simply choose not to.

I know i'm super late, but i have always wondered since seeing this movie if Vanessa is going to regret all of this when Barry dies of old age after like a month, if she does then i hope Ken doesn't take her back, because well she did leave him...for a bee.

I never got to the end of the movie. I got to the trial part and I felt it was so absurd that I was wasting my time, so I turned it off. Very, very bad movie.

YEAH!!! Excuse you Mrs 'I'm in love with bees'.
You were also part of this entire thing of suing your own kind to stop taking honey from bees.
So don't you flippin throw the blame on him as if you weren't part of this stupid idea.

When I wanted to see this film, I already knew that it was a flop. But I still wanted to give him a chance, telling myself that he might have some qualities. Well I quickly understood that this film had reason to be hated... The scenario goes in all directions, the jokes are flat and the embarrassment came out more during my viewing (and I even talk about incest and of pedophilia put in the image...). The only 2 positive points that I could find are the animation which goes well and the message on the eco-system that the film wants to convey (even if it is conveyed very clumsily)
