- Spraying gelcoat onto an RC boat plug with the G100 gelcoat spray gun in order to make a new mold. We used 1 quart of Orange Tooling Gelcoat, 15cc MEKP Catalyst, and a mil gauge. The gelcoat was sprayed on to a thickness of .020". Check out our website at www.fiberglasssupply.com or our blog itchingforfun.fiberglasssupply...

Nice job. Someday I'll get one of those guns for my smaller stuff.
The gelcoat is the orange tooling gelcoat, the resin that we used later to build the mold with is Reichhold 6631 Isophthalic Tooling Resin
Cool video, if you spray up the centre line then move to the other side then your coat thickness will be more even though. :-)
on a large job, I often have the gelcoat go off while I'm brushing it, I'm interested in seeing you clean the gun if you want to show that
How much tooling gelcoat was in your cup, and how much was your your catalyst? Thank you.
I have the West System epoxy, what do I use for gelcoat? Can I just thin the West System epoxy and spray that on?
can you use a 3mm nozzle putty / hi fill gun? what nozzle size does the gelcoat gun use?
Yes a quart. It is very thick and unless you have a pressure pot with a large tip I would not recommend a regular paint gun.
WHAT Type resin do you use?
Quelle buse utilisez vous
What size nozzle do you use and what psi?
FN6 which I believe is the 3/16" nozzle. Around 60psi, but that can vary depending on how much volume your compressor can put out. You want it to atomize but not blow too much overspray around.
did u have to thin it at all?
If you are using the G-100 gun you do not need to thin it.
@@FiberglassSupply We bought our gun from you , and it is better than brushing for sure . How much air pressure were you using on this video ? You did the spraying in 4.5 minutes , did you spray the whole quart on that plug ? I saw another demo video for the g100 gun and they said they were using gelcoat meant for spraying vs standard gelcoat , I had no clue there are different types ? Maybe it is just thinned down from the manufacturer ? can you use acetone for thinning or does it need styrene ? or ? . We use the std gelcoat and it seems to splatter a lot more than yours or the video in the link I am putting here video showed when they used it . We do larger items like race car roofs and hoods and it takes a while to do them . I plan to time my brother tonight on spraying to see how long it take him to spray a quart , it seems like it takes a long time , maybe it's too thick ?
