Poor Trent, you can tell by this video and their other studio updates, these guys were really really REALLY close to each other, they've been writing music together for so long, true best friends. *Sends Trent a pat in the back via RUclips Comment Sections*
Someone commented somewhere about if they were replacing Justin....I said no way, not after growing up with your best friend who you wrote all of your material with. He'll never mesh will another guitarist like him. Unfortunately in their specific situation.....just watch the vid like you said.
I like to think he’d be very proud of them all, dig deep and evergreen are true to the atb spirit while not retreading too much of the same ground. They’re not rareform by any means but this band has yet to put out anything that isn’t fuckin awesome
They really were. Their styles complimented each other so well. Trent was more of the shreddy, intricate riff maker. Justin was the groove powerhouse. It's funny how all my favourite riffs are played by Justin in this video. He had the gift of making djent riffs that grooved hard, sounded interesting, and most of all sounded original. He'll be missed for sure. It'll be interesting to see what their latest album will be like without his grooves
I just can't think of another band with two guitarists that can shred balls as much as these guys. I've been playing for 20 years and I feel like i'm probably 20 more away from sounding like these guys. Wow!
Forever inspired by these guys' guitar work. Justins' faciall expression when they dropped the first live performance of 'Berserker' on us at the Orchard Inn, Wisconsin.
Feeling some type of way watching these. Very nostalgic, and just feeling bummed about the loss of Justin. After The Burial was a big part of my musical awakening. Moving from that generic metalcore that was worshipping At The Gates and with garbage breakdowns. Then bands started really being influenced by Meshuggah and virtuoso guitar shredders and things got REALLY interesting really fast for me. These guys were a huge part of that for me. Trent is still writing awesome stuff, but back during these days I was young and overly enthusiastic about this stuff. Good times. RIP Justin.
@abysslord16 yes they do. for example, if you go far enough around the circle of fifths. you will get to the keys of Fb and E# In the key of F for example, the major scale is: 'F, G, A, B♭, C, D, E, (F)'. Thus, the 'B' is called 'B♭' rather than 'A♯' as we already have a note named 'A' in the scale. The scale of F♯ major is: 'F♯, G♯, A♯, B, C♯, D♯, E♯, (F♯)'
Same, first time i saw them at Croc Rock in Allentown, PA. Walked out after their set (went just to see them), and guess what? Trent, Justin and Lee were just chillin in parking lot! Went over, shook some hands, made a minute or 2 of small talk, told them i enjoyed the show and went my way,...cool dudes if you ever get to meet them
@Metalcortaku i live in nashville so i was at the dvd shoot for colors and it was quite good they didn't include in the dvd the little montage of songs they did before the 2nd set they played some of alaska and other songs it was really cool i think that was just for the fans who drove a really long way i heard a guy came all the way from florida on a bus
@CrispinDan I believe both guitarists recently switched to using AxeFX rack units, but they are still using orange cabs. Not sure about the pedals though.
@FerociousPenguin STS has only one 8-string player and it's tuned like a 7-string with a high A, while the other guitarist uses a John Pettrucci signature 7-string.
@Metalcortaku i agree with you alaska was incredible haven't seen all bodies live yet but i have seen backwards marathon and it was one of the best songs i've seen live to date
@abysslord16 I feel like I should clear things up. Neither of you are wrong per say... E=Fb and E#=F. This is the same regarding B and C. Usually the only time E# is written is if a particular song has an F# in the key signature. So, in a given measure, say there is an F# then you play an F natural then another F#.
@RagedGuitarist yeah I can see that plus they say its DI. The stomp box looks more like a tuner (compressor is blue...i have one). I was wondering what plugin the distortion was coming from. It sounds sick. In their later vid they use the axefx....but not in this one
@brandon5pennies just to clarify, I don't think BTBAM has made a album that isn't really good yet, so that's why I use terms like "weaker" or "stronger" instead of good or bad. They've just all been really good so far.
@FisForFlyingDog ah, i must've gotten some bunk info then. i thought the way a normal 8 string is set up is one lower string (like a 7 string) plus another higher string. and the band meshuggah has theirs' set up with 2 lower strings (one of which is actually a bass string) so i didn't know which is the correct set up. thanks for clarifying. this is why i stick drums lol
@vinnydude well, you can buy the rg-2228 and make a cutout like his, but that exact one? you cant buy it, unless there is a place you can buy it from, i actually looked for that 8 string, its not for sale unfortunetly
I'll tell you how amazing this band is. The description says that this video was filmed 1/9/10, but uploaded 1/7/10. AFTER THE BURIAL CAN TIME WARP!!! XD!
@EMN413 Bro, I don't even know what chug core is. But I think they'd be Deathcore, Djent or Groove Metal. But the pod looks like a Pod 2.0 and they're re-amping it through their normal amps, I believe. Justin's using a Mesa Mark IV and Trent uses an Engl Invader 100. Expensive muthalickin' amps.
@Metalcortaku it wasn't just a few mistakes i've seen them live and they would nail songs like white walls which musically and technically is more difficult and they were just really off beat that night but who doesn't have those nights i didn't absolutely hate the great misdirect but one point in the album a clean break is almost note for note a dream theater song cannot remember which but someone pointed it out and i didn't think it was true until i compared them colors however is amazing
@grayskyguitar yea some people just use bandanas like Chris Storey but I'm sure that whatever Trent has on his guitar, if that's what it's used for, is more legitimate than a bandana
I always thought a good idea was to have an 8 string guitar making sweet heavy rhythm parts and a 7 or 6 doing the leads since leads are mostly done on those strings anyway so less strings to worry about.
Straight from Justin himself: "I checked out the Pre Pro vid. If you want to clear up a couple things people are asking about. D.I. stands for direct injection, or is more referred to as direct input. We are NOT using a Pod, it's just sitting there not plugged in. We were in fact using Logic Amp Plugins with a Tube Screamer and a Boss NS-2."
@00Dakka haha there are only 3 types of notes: naturals, sharps and flats, so there can be and Eb because it can also be a D# but there cant be an Fb because its a natural E. thats just the way it is dude.
@Dissimulatex as much as I love Trent and Justin, After the Burials first album Forging a Future Self is metal core and Messhuggah coined the term djent before Rareform was even created. ATB is one of my favorite Progressive Metal bands next to Periphery, and Protest the Hero, so nothing against them.
Poor Trent, you can tell by this video and their other studio updates, these guys were really really REALLY close to each other, they've been writing music together for so long, true best friends.

It was filmed 9th January 2010, but uploaded 7th January 2010
Mind fucking blown
These two together were magic man
They really were. Their styles complimented each other so well. Trent was more of the shreddy, intricate riff maker. Justin was the groove powerhouse. @@AshtonFitness Glad to see im Not The only one re watching these videos 10 years later .. :(
Justin was an amazing guitarist and its a shame that he's passed, one of the best in my eyes. #ATB
R.I.P. Justin... :(
I just can't think of another band with two guitarists that can shred balls as much as these guys. I've been playing for 20 years and I feel like i'm probably 20 more away from sounding like these guys. Wow!
Felt exactly the same. I'm pretty decent, but the material these dude WROTE just blows my mind. I still can't wrap my head around playing an 8.
man they come up with the best grooves and most original breakdowns
Rip jlowe my inspiration
A long long ways, bro. I can't wait.
That Millennial Pause in the beginning. These videos are super nostalgic. RIP, Justin, you legend.
Forever inspired by these guys' guitar work. Justins' faciall expression when they dropped the first live performance of 'Berserker' on us at the Orchard Inn, Wisconsin.
I'd say Meshuggah is the creator of the Djent-ish style. After The Burial being the son of Djent.
And I’m still here all these years later
these guys are so fucking chill it's amazing. they seem like some fun guys to hang out with
Feeling some type of way watching these. Very nostalgic, and just feeling bummed about the loss of Justin. After The Burial was a big part of my musical awakening. love that Jason Becker shirt!!
Becker is the greatest.
much respect.
sounds epic guys...cant wait to see you back in MINNESOTA
his sweeps are soooo clean
I definitely agree there. I've been anticipating any news on a new album for so long now. Now I just need to hear a song, its killing me haha.
@abysslord16
yes they do. for example, if you go far enough around the circle of fifths. you will get to the keys of Fb and E#

i just can't wait for the new album, it's going to kick some serious ass!
I had Trent's uncle as a teacher, and Dan, the drummer, graduated from my school. The nicest group of guys you may ever meet haha
sounds amazing! cant wait for more vids and for the new cd!!!
Same, first time i saw them at Croc Rock in Allentown, PA. Walked out after their set (went just to see them), and guess what? Trent, Justin and Lee were just chillin in parking lot! Went over, shook some hands, made a minute or 2 of small talk, told them i enjoyed the show and went my way,...cool dudes if you ever get to meet them
yes!! looking forward to it!
this sounds like an awesome mix of their old style
and their new style
its sexy.
thanks guys
@Metalcortaku i live in nashville so i was at the dvd shoot for colors and it was quite good they didn't include in the dvd the little montage of songs they did before the 2nd set they played some of alaska and other songs it was really cool i think that was just for the fans who drove a really long way i heard a guy came all the way from florida on a bus
@jonnywaffle6 yes...all the riffs in this video are on MY FRAILTY...the opening track off of IN DREAMS...amazing song and album
those orange cabs look and sound awesome
@vinnydude its an ibanez rg-2228 8string, that is his custom with the cutaway, but that is what it is
Yes! New album soon :) Those guys kick ass.
I'll show these videos to my grandkids one day
the outro breakdown in the vid is great
@EMN413 now they use axefx, recording and live, justin uses a carvin power amp, and they both use orange cabs.
Cant believe its been 10 years from the "new" after the burial album
Reminds me of Forging a Future Self. This is gonna be the best one for sure
the green one is freaking amazing
3:40 , Trent`s face .
@xxSLY985xx d.i. stands for Direct Input into the computer for recording. DI isn't a tuning.
Ohhhhhh my god. I can not fucking wait for this album...It's gonna crush.
great musicians and awesome fucking band, love the new riffs and cant wait for the new album
I LOVE THEM!!
Sounds fantastic!
@CrispinDan I believe both guitarists recently switched to using AxeFX rack units, but they are still using orange cabs. Not sure about the pedals though.
i love that last riff...its badass
cant wait for the new albumm oMMGG
FINALLY, I've been waiting for some new shit.
these boys are very very fucking talented props to them getcha pull off this shit any day of the week
@FerociousPenguin STS has only one 8-string player and it's tuned like a 7-string with a high A, while the other guitarist uses a John Pettrucci signature 7-string.
its fitting that he wears that shirt while playing that solo. cant wait for this
the guy in the lacoste shirt is the most unassuming metal guitarist I've ever seen
i will, and thank you for the new information i just learned!
Fucking hell the end is so groovy. This album is gonna absolutely slay
cant wait
some these riffs are on their new song "My Frailty"
I saw these guys last night. So fucking awesome.
Can't wait to see them again in May with White Chapel, The Plot In You and a few others.
i said this b4 but i hav to say it again, I LOVE THESE GUYS!!!!! YEA AFTER THE BURIAL!!!
@osirisfromhun That green has many names depends on the company, like BCR calls it Toxic Green, or there Neon Green or Lime Green. you take your pick
Freaking awesome. Can't wait for it to come out.
UG FTW!
@Metalcortaku i agree with you alaska was incredible haven't seen all bodies live yet but i have seen backwards marathon and it was one of the best songs i've seen live to date
Their new shit is going to be sooo sickk!
@MetiASH They probably have an amp switch and one end goes to the computer DI and another end could go to an amp or an amp sim.
@XSilverxCrossx it's the beginning of "A Steady Decline" one of their older songs
@TerryTCE Thanks man, I just saw them live a few hours ago and they played that song. It was a fucking intense night!
@RagedGuitarist yeah I can see that plus they say its DI. The stomp box looks more like a tuner (compressor is blue...i have one). I was wondering what plugin the distortion was coming from. It sounds sick. In their later vid they use the axefx....but not in this one
stronghearted Trent
Saw them alst night. My Fraility has got to be, by far, their shrediest song to date. Oh yeah and Trent touched my hand
That incredible My Frailty solo was even better live in London yesterday! :D
@RicoAM Looking forward to part 2! Riffage is sounding sick, plus trent and justin make me laugh :)
XD!
So fucking HEAVY!

thanks, i didnt even see the pod. guess i should pay attention to detail a little more :)
i have that same Jason Becker shirt. Props to the Greatest!
MOAR!!!
i love how they are going meshuggah-y
That RG7620 in the beginning is exactly like mine!
@grayskyguitar yea some people just use bandanas like Chris Storey but I'm sure that whatever Trent has on his guitar, if that's what it's used for, is more legitimate than a bandana
@justinsanesaid12 Just a painted RG228. I think he put Blackouts in it instead of EMGs now though.
3:12 is some kind of an epic win situation. This shit is gonna own. STOKED!!
Yes! Can't wait! =)
new song sounded amazing at the mosh lives tour
@osirisfromhun You talkin about Justin's green guitar? I'm pretty sure it's the Ibanez RG2228, the world's first mass-produced 8-string guitar.
@VolcomSkater2024 their new album 'In Dreams" which releases nov 23
@psicofoniaprods i think. the finish is at least. its the RG2228
@SweetandSourLips its ther new song, MY FRAILTY
its on ther newest album, just wait for the album
I always thought a good idea was to have an 8 string guitar making sweet heavy rhythm parts and a 7 or 6 doing the leads since leads are mostly done on those strings anyway so less strings to worry about.
that tone is so GODLY. CAN I HAZ?

damn it !! ibanez needs to release a green model for the 8.if not i may just repaint mine when i get it,maybe ill do a swirl or something
@00Dakka haha there are only 3 types of notes: naturals, sharps and flats, so there can be and Eb because it can also be a D# but there cant be an Fb because its a natural E. thats just the way it is dude.
MY GOOD LORD BEST GUITARISTS EVER...
i'll wait...
