I feel like the main problem is that he seems to rely on visual cues instead of the actual rhythm. It always seems like he does much worse when it's hard to see what's going on. Just feel the beat dude, maybe try practicing levels and close your eyes! It helps. :)

I rely on visuals and I do perfectly, but if I rely on the rhythm and close my eyes, I fail a lot.
