I visited a client and friend of mine for whom I built this custom DJ Booth and record shelves from Birch plywood. In total it holds around 3,000 records.
The DJ Booth is wide enough to hold three decks and a mixer comfortably and it is deep enough to hold decks for scratching (battle style).
One element that I focused on to get right was the cable management. The top has a permanent raised ledge, hiding the backs of the sound equipment and it has a cavity behind sliding doors at the back, serving as storage for auxiliary cables and routing of power cables whilst in use.
The whole booth is mounted on eight, heavy duty castors so that it can be moved around when neccesary.
It is unique in that the DJ is facing the crown whilst DJ'ing, rather than the standing with his back to them like you see in many home DJ set ups.
This was a fun project to build. Both since Michael is a dear friend to me but also since I have enjoyed a few fun evenings (early mornings) in this room dancing with friends.
Probably the best I’ve seen. Awesome.
That's kind. Thanks @llewellyn56!!
One of the nicest things I've ever seen made by a human
Very kind, Thank you Matt!
This is an amazing setup man, great work Gideon!
Cheers @benskinner8580!❤
Very nice Model 1 mixer!
Amazing work guys and clearly beautifully made Gideon.
Thank you very much James!
Very clean and functional. Great idea with the cable management space. I might build something similar and add some sort of groove or recess to hold the records that are currently being played.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Wasikoki. Michael and I did actually speak about a similar thing! A wide slot just behind the upright (leaning back against the upright) where you can keep 10-20 records would be perfect.
can you make me one? looks great. love the cable slots and pegboard solution.
I'd love to but in and out of town until mid May. Are you in a rush?
Not in a rush, but I just found out you are based in the UK. That might be a problem as I'm from The Netherlands haha@@GideonMadeIt
Delivery would probably make it a bit tricky. Few people asked if I can sell them the plans so I am considering to take the time to do them with an accompanying how-to video. Will update you once I do in case you are interested@@Motel-Music
Glad to have found your post, @gideonmadeit as I'm using a Kallax that is bowing. Standard Birch ply in the US is only 3/4, but it looks like the material you used is 1 1/2 inches, and it doesn't look like you glued them as the layers are alternate colours. Can you tell me if you glued or if you bought 1 1/2 birch ply from somewhere? Thanks
Hi @KingslayerZantrec, I did buy 1.5". Not as common as the 3/4" but I you do get it here in the uk. You can of course just layer it up yourself.
@@GideonMadeIt Thanks...saw another project of yours and you say you used 30mm birch ply. Sadly it's between $200 - $450 for a 4 x 8 sheet in the US plus shipping as you can't just pick up in any store. Looks like I'm gluing 3/4 together!
@@KingslayerZantrec Good luck and send pics once it is done!
@@GideonMadeIt For sure!
Are those Mastersounds Clarity A speakers?????
Absolutely amazing! well done. I was just curious, the black section on top, is that just black paint? It looks great.
Hi @RK-Mode. Thanks! No, it is a linoleum specifically made for use in furniture. It is by a company called Forbo.
Thank you very much@@GideonMadeIt
Hi mate
I might be interested in a unit like this.
Hi @djt8222. Unfortunately busy on my house atm so little time for extra builds. Whereabouts are you located?
Is there a link for the mixer stand?
Hi Junior. Do you mean a link to the plans?
@@GideonMadeIt where to purchase the rack that the mixer sits on.
@@juniord3997 I made it as a once off but can potentially do another. Where are you based?
Would I be able to purchase plans for something like this?
Hi Alex, I don't have the sketchup file for that anymore but can potentially redo them for you. What is your carpentry skill level? Do you have a router?
Hi @@gideonbot, I am also super interested in a plan for this project if it's ever possible. This is one of the sickest booths I have ever seen. My skills are null but I have knowledgeable friends and I am eager to learn!
Hi, just about to start renovating and looking for something similar. Would you be able to take a call or email?
Hi @JonTommo, I'm currently renovating my house so not building furniture at the moment. Otherwise would have loved to!
Ahhh ok, no worries. If you find anytime in the future I’d still be interested. I have and room dedicated for music and have a few similar projects which I’d be interested in talking to you about.
