The number one item in my DJ booth that wasn’t necessarily intended for DJs, is an anti-fatigue mat. Most of my sets are 5+ hours long. An anti-fatigue mat is clutch, because when I’m DJing, I’m dancing the whole time.

Like the idea of a lot of it, just hate that it’s all black. Integrating my DJ setup with my usual home aesthetic is something important to me (well more to my wife!) and black furniture isn’t going to fly with all the other ikea fake pine 😄

I have seen people use the standard units and fit them with 200mm chrome legs. This gives them the correct hight for there stand alone unit. The Billie book case (that was) turned on it's side and fitted with legs made a great deap unit for vinyl users.

I rigged a Kallax that’s similar to what they sell. I used small legs in the corners, flipped it upside down and put a nice piece of pine on the top. Highly recommend adapting one for your needs. 2x Battle style techs and monitors with tons of space.

I just got two of the DJ shelf unit and LOVE THEM. Ikea delivered NEXT DAY, the units took 30m to assemble, they are perfect height and sturdiness, and my studio looks infinitely nicer than the 4' tall folding table I was using before.
I didn't notice or care about the price difference to the standard Kallax, because I value my time saved in no longer researching or building a Kallax hack. I'm also happier with these units than a custom booth I built before because its way cheaper and more versitile.
    Thank you Swedish House Mafia!

My old Linnmon+Oddvald desk just started to fallin' apart thanks to the many moving between flats (It served 7 years and lived in 5 flat), so i purchased the whole OBEGRÄNSAD desk and i couldn't be happier with it. Sturdy, not shaking too much, handling my 29" ultrawide display on a VESA arm, and it has space for everything during the daily work or the studio sessions.

I am a self-confessed IKEA hacker and of course I built a Kallax DJ booth, even tricked it out with LED lights. When I saw this new line I could definitely see a use for it in my studio, so I ordered the bookshelf, the desk and gadget bag. Fortunately IKEA delivers and it saves me a trip from getting sucked into the IKEA matrix 🤑. Ironically, my original Kallax booth was showing age and no longer fit the aesthetic of space(which had been remodeled). I "convinced" 😛 my husband to help me build a custom booth for multiple mixers, turntables and media players similar to the Idokodo Chameleon

Here’s another example of how my apple devices read my mind and show me content I was just thinking about! I was online all night last night looking for some kind of riser for a center channel speaker under my TV, unable to find the perfect solution. I’m heading to Ikea today to pick up those monitor stands for *all* of my speakers now!

  • @dhst76
    @dhst76 Год назад +3

The speaker stands are terrific, but with a caveat: Monitor speakers should be at ear height AND have the right angle (30 degrees seems to be best). So you shouldn’t place your speakers directly on them, but put them on some isolation pads (e.g. Auralex MoPads). With the correct angle, they’re just perfect. Bought them yesterday and tested my new setup. I’m now able to hear more frequencies than before during my mixing process. I’d say they’re a winner.

  • @JoshWaller

Thank you for this! I bought the cable bag and speaker stands from the collection based on this review, and they’re great.
I’ll be testing out the cable bag on a job tomorrow, but so far it fits everything in (Mac charger, decks cables, dongles, comms radios etc…)
Monitor stands are actually great. Easy (enough) to build and really make my monitors sound so much better (having been on my desk before). Now just need some isolation pads and I’m sorted (not sure why I haven’t done this for the past 10 years 🤣).
    Cheers!

Having a small appartment (only 40 square meters), I use a 220x100 dining table as my computerdesk (I'm a tall guy reaching 200cm) and a buffetcloset that sits next to it to store my DJ gear on. That buffetcloset is, oh yes, from IKEA. Next up I have a floating shelf on the wall above my computerdesk, which is also from IKEA, to store my M-Audio studio monitors (active speakers) on. IKEA does have lots of nice things to have in your home or home studio. Heck, I even have a LACK table from IKEA to support my 1-person dishwasher haha.
I did try to check out the SHM-IKEA collaboration gear out in the local IKEA, since we have one in my hometown, but it wasn't there. It's being promoted a lot lately, but according to our IKEA, it's only available online or, if you want to see it, available only in Amsterdam, Barendrecht, Heerlen, Groningen, Duiven and Zwolle. The rest will probably not get it. According them, ye'know.
I am however interested in the KALLAX "DJ booth", but 180 bucks isn't worth it in my opinion. Be aware that most of the LACK, KALLAX, BILLY and so on series, are not made from real wood but from paper and cardboard.

We can get similar results at a cheaper price. All the other Art Deco stuff is ok but it does not do anything for the music. It is nothing but fancy decorations. We can also find THIS cheaper with similar aesthetic results.

If anyone is looking to build something for a large setup, I have to say I'm happy with mine. Joined a 2x2 and a 2x4 Kallax together. Added 6 angled Capita legs (Each corner and 1 front and rear centre). Then put on a cheap kitchen worktop which I vinyl wrapped to look the way I wanted and finished with some cheap LED's under the front of worktop to downlight my vinyl. I'd say all in all I was around £140 and this houses over 1000 vinyl, plus a Xone DB4, 2 x SC6000 and 2 x 1210s with plenty of room to spare.
Just in case anyone is looking at large pre built desks which are limited and costly, this may help as an idea. Get loads of comments about how good it looks

Also opted for the clock and laptop/tablet stands which I thought were plastic but are actually metal. The tablet stands are a perfect size for Behringer TD3s. These stands are a bargain and can be delivered to a drop off point for £2. The rest you will either need to get at the store or pay a forty quid delivery for! The LED light thing may have made sense if it responded to music but it doesn't. Not sure how the black fluffy stuff is producer related......Also the drawer on my desk unit fell off under the weight of my keyboard so be careful what you put on it.

If it was 2inches wider it would have been perfect as I use turntables in battle mode, the feet hang over by a couple of cm each side but that's what I'm used to anyway but they missed an opportunity here. Actually worth the price surprisingly. I can fit my DDJ800 underneath, other controllers and extra guitar pedals not on my pedalboard on the other side. Anyone know the dimensions of the extra space on top of the kallax? If it's more that 7“ I'm sold. Could fit a lot of 45s in there
