Jenny’s Wreath Boutique “guesstimate” I have a hard time keeping track of how much I should charge if I didn’t use the whole roll/bush or whatever is in it. Plus I am anal so I will add everything in, hate it. Rip half of it out and add different stuff. I struggle with this.
Wreathlings oh I hear you! I do a lot of guesstimating too. If I know I use about half of something, I just count it like that. And that’s just to get an idea of what you spent, and then you go to the next step and see what other similar items are selling for.
@@daniellebraga2880 hi 👋, the words "supplies/materials" are just category words. Supplies are the things that you used to make your item: like glue, glue gun, floral wire, wire cuter, etc. Materials, for wreaths, would be the wreath frame, ribbons, flowers, etc. I add that and times it by 2. You can add labor to your cost, but I am just starting so I don't do that. However I might over estimate on some things if it's a lot of work or I may add a small labor fee of $5 but you add that to the number you are multiplying. Don't forget to add your shipping materials to the supply cost. You will need to add the sum of that number with any fees you have for your shop and if you're offering free shipping then add the price to the sale price. Hope that answers your questions. Otherwise, check in with Jenny because I am a beginner and she has more experience.... there might be something I'm missing. 😊
Many years ago, my girlfriend and I had a crafty service business. And (well this was before the internet was popular - so Etsy wasn't even a twinkle in some techie's eye) we used to sell and market our wares/services at craft shows. One time there was a Crafter who made beautiful, slightly expensive art parked right next to us. Right at the front of his display was a sign that read "well perhaps you COULD attempt making it... but WILL you?" That shut up a lot of hecklers, and turned those trolls into buyers.
Thank you for being so open and honest about your pricing. Not something that everyone is comfortable sharing. I don't make wreaths but this gives me an idea of how much I need to charge for my items. Thanks a lot.
Hey Jenny, I’ve been meaning to send you a message for ages. I’m from the UK & qualified as a florist years ago. After making no money doing friends weddings I stopped. When lockdown started I started selling some bits on Etsy. I then noticed how many (this might sound awful) people were selling really badly made wreaths for a heck of a price!! I’ve started making them & other floral bits too. I’m just starting out really but I’m absolutely loving it. It was chaos at first, supplies were all over my house 🙈. I’m getting more organised now. Your channel has been so helpful, it’s literally been my go to. I’m with you on the awkward..my friends keep saying they want them & it kills me to tell them the price. I’m trying to steer away from that, I’d rather have strangers buy them if that makes sense. Ppl charging too low is very harmful also! I definitely need to add extra sizes. The thing that put me off was thinking I’d have to make the wreath up in all the sizes but I suppose that’s not needed if you add a caption, something like (15inch comes with 3 roses). Just wanted to thank you really. If this takes off I’ll be able to spend more time with my boys who are 4 & 5, that really is the greatest gift I could get from anything. Honestly, seeing you doing it & learning about how you started has spurred me on so so much. I really can’t thank you enough. Selina xx
Thank you so much for this comment! I loved reading about your story, and I completely agree with you! As far as adding the different sizes, yes, absolutely just start with one size pictured, and then as you get orders for the other sizes, you can take pictures of them and add the pics to the listing. I believe you get your grapevine wreaths from Michaels but I just discovered joannes craft plus. Option to purchase items in bulk at lower cost. Only bummer is return policy so must know quality of items in person. Not sure if you have a local joannes. Their 18” grapevine is usually I believe $6.99 but with joannes craft plus it allows you as a business to purchase in bulk bringing $3.08 each with minimum of 5 purchased. Drops down to $2.86 for 20 or more and best part is you can use your resale license to not pay tax. I know Michaels is $5 then you wait for 40% sale etc to purchase. I just thought this might be beneficial for you so you don’t have to wait for sale if you need to order and no sales tax. Plus I find their wreaths to not have so much dried leaves and stuff mixed in with wreath. Slightly better quality than Michaels. Hope this helps you as you have helped me. Thank you!

I really am glad I watched this. It is so informative, and I just enjoy you. I, b/c of Covid, have been losing my mind a little bit so I've been watching youtube. I'm going to make some Halloween witch hat door hangers (wreaths?) and give them to my neighbors. I'm 72 and have never been crafty, but I have paid tons of money for wreaths and other decor, which I am so happy to be able to do. I love to decorate for the seasons. I will never try to sell anything - the idea is ludicrous and hilarious - b/c my talents lie elsewhere. it's so difficult to get passed the, "it's too expensive" comments tbh. but even though people CAN make products for cheaper, there are people that won't bother because they know it takes time and effort and skill. i had a shop and i shut it down because of this. I stumbled upon your youtube channel and it's giving me hope to try it once more! it's true what you said, that's not your market. i just need to get passed the "awkward" phase.
Thank yo so much, I would consider myself a newbie to crafting but I always get compliment on what I make. Thank you for sharing how to price the wreaths to sell. I've been under pricing my wreath. You have a new follower.
Thank you Jenny this video has really helped Mr not just with prices to charge for wreaths I'm wanting to start selling this year but on my wood signs abd decor too I've struggled with what to charge or how to charge and my mum daughter and friends have told me many times I do nit charge enough but after watching this video I have a much clearer idea on how to charge properly so thabk you so much ,all the best Mary in Australia 🌻😊 PS yes I've been watching a few of your older videos lately and commenting, sorry of I've bombarded you with comments 😊
Your such a lovely lady Jenny. Love watching all your videos. Your stuff is worth every Penny. Also ,you taking the time ,for people to understand ,what actually goes into costing when crafting 💐
I see I’m 2 years behind on your video , but this is such great information. Thank you so much! You have the sweetest personality that I find myself shaking my head in agreement with you as if you can see me lol.
Just found your channel and I'm soooo glad I did. I've now watched several of your videos and I love your real advise and insights. You are spot on with how to price and not to under value your product.
That’s really mean for people to comment and say you can make something cheaper. Of course they could. But they don’t consider the time it takes of driving to different stores to find supplies, and the coupon is usually only good for one item, so you will have to go everyday. Then the time of looking around the store to find the perfect items, to make it. And you have to consider the time it takes to actually make the wreath! It takes time. If it was so easy everyone would just do it. People are paying for someone’s craft, time and their ideas. If people want to pay for something, why does someone else feel the need to go and try to undermine that decision. I don’t even have my own business, but that’s just rude. Love your wreaths Jenny 💜
Yeah, but what can you do 🤷🏻♀️. Personally I would never comment something like that, but it didn’t offend me. There were plenty of people who were willing to pay that price because I completely sold out of that wreath in one day.
Thank you very helpful on how to price my wreaths, right now I am working on a spring-summer wreath and I have bought my greenery from Greenery Market, they are somewhat pricey, but good quality. Can I send a picture of my wreath when I'm done? will you give me an honest opinion on the finished product? I would truly love your input. I have been making wreaths now for about 10 or more years but never really sold made for family and friends, started selling my wreaths at craft fairs where it was a waste of my time and money but I do have this client that is the biggest fan and customer. I make seasonal wreaths. I did pretty well this past Halloween and Christmas. Anyway, I would love your input. I have spent more money on supplies and honestly have not made a dent in profit. Jenny thank you for sharing. Love your wreaths. ❤
Hey Jenny! First and foremost thank you so much for the time you spend on making your RUclips videos. Every single one of them are so helpful! I look up sometimes and realize I’ve watched 3 hours worth of your videos.😂 That’s how much I love you and your videos. I know it takes a lot of time and just wanted you to know how much it’s appreciated! So we are just starting out in this whole business of making wreaths. Nothing serious yet but hopefully we will get there. I wanted to know if there is an app you use for inventory? I’ve looked at a lot of them and can’t decide which one is the best. I just need simple for now. Just a place to keep up with what we buy. Plus to keep up with what we sell. Didn’t know if you had a good one that you use or know of one.
@@JennysWreathBoutique Ok thank you! Thank you for always responding! I know that has to be hard keeping up with everyone’s questions! You’re awesome!!
I just found your channel a couple of days ago and I’m am really enjoying all the information you’ve giving. I’ve been on Etsy since 2017 and have not sold very many wreaths. I’m gonna to take your advice and maybe overhaul my shop. Take you so much for sharing.
Hi Jenny not sure how you make money on your beautiful lambs ear wreath I just bought the supplies 😅your prices are great and free shipping your amazing!! Loving all your videos I’m going to do multiples thanks for all the great tips!
Also, if you’re looking at the price of my lamb’s ear wreath, it’s the smallest size price that shows up. My prices get much higher with the wreath size.
Thank you Jenny! I learn so much from you, not to mention my wall I showed you before. Thank YOU for your knowledge & inspiration. You are a dear to watch!
Hi thanks for all the brilliant advice, I am in Liverpool, England and we don't have your choice of shops or discounts so our flower stock (if you want quality) is expensive but i love your ideas and advice. x
I’m so glad you made this video. I’m new to wreath making having made maybe ten. From the first one I made I was told I should sell them. I thought no way I’m not good enough. After making a few and experimenting with add ons again I was asked about selling them. Well there’s a craft fair coming up and I hope to take the giant step and sell. Don’t know if you ever sold at craft fairs but do you have any suggestions as to how many wreaths I should bring? I think another point I would like to make is not to overthink if you’re good enough to sell. If I could sell just one I would be so happy. Thanks for sharing this info with us. 😊🙏🏼❤️🌼💐🌻
So glad this was helpful! As for your question, it depends on the craft fair. I’ve only done one and I brought 50 wreaths. It was a big one, though. I would bring things of all different price ranges. Bring something big and stunning and also some mini wreaths, and everything in between.
I just watched today! Great video! Thank you for putting this out there. I took notes and I’m planning getting an Esty page. You have inspired me to do this! Thank you again!
Hey, I am considering selling on Etsy and I stumbled across this video. Let me tell you, thank you so much for taking the time to give some pricing tips! It was very informative and I’ll be watching your other videos.
Wonderful info. Just to clarify and I can always ask this when the vip thing begins but with the eucalyptus wreath you charge more for a bigger size but still use the 18” wreath. Is that bc you’re using more greenery and making the width wider with that greenery?
Thank you for sharing this. I've been very nervous about selling my wreaths on Etsy because of the cost of shipping and the boxes, I know it can get really expensive. Now to find some boxes and a scale.
I'm in the midst of listening to your information on pricing, but am wondering already: Do you measure the size of the wreath by the metal form, or by the size of the "decorated" wreath? Sandy
You are such a sweetheart!! Thanks so much for this video and all of the others. My first time seeing you was when you posted the video of where you get your supplies. I immediately went to Michael's and Darices's websites but the product selection was not nearly as nice as what you show on your video. You did that video in May so that would explain why the beautiful products you purchased were no longer available. Which raises 2 questions: Do you purchase all of your flowers from Michael's in store or online? 2. When you first started making wreaths, how did you know how much of which florals to buy and which prices were reasonable? I bought a lot of cheap flowers to make wreaths but I don't feel comfortable using them to make wreaths to sell. I'm so happy to know that it's possible to buy quality flowers so affordably. Thanks again and blessings to you and your family!
Carol Wright a lot of my really nice flowers are from Michaels in store or online. I like to see the quality in person in store. Then I can make a much bigger purchase online. A lot of their florals are only available in store, and in that case I will use the buy online pick up in store option. For Darice, the selection is definitely a lot smaller, and the really good items tend to sell out fast. I would recommend signing up for an email notification when they restock (often times it takes until the next year) and then grabbing them as soon as they’re back in stock. I did that with some of the orange berries I got. And also, try shipping a season or two ahead on Darice. As for your second question, there’s a lot of trial and error in the beginning. And lots of shopping around. But I always stock up on quality greenery.
Hi Jenny, I watched 4 of your videos today and have to say I loved watching your shows. Even though this question has nothing to do with how to sell. Have you ever made a bow that has both wired and unwired ribbon? I also notice that you answer questions which I haven't found from a lot of videos on wreath making. Thank you.
Hi! Thanks for watching! I have made a bow that had both wired and unwired (only because I accidentally ordered one unwired 🤦🏻♀️), and I didn’t like it very much.
I so look forward to your videos. I’ve been doing wreaths for about three years. Mostly doing a large craft fair in northern Arkansas. I have been concentrating on my Etsy store and it is doing good. I tried to sign up for the Darice’s wholesale. They said they were not taking new account. I googled it and it said Michaels was closing the wholesale part of their business. Have you heard anything about that?
Connie Gibbs I haven’t heard that about Darice, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve been having issues with their system lately. Thanks for the head’s up! Congrats on your Etsy shop doing well! Have you been able to do any craft fairs this year or have they all been cancelled?
I have watched your videos and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thanks to ppl like you that share knowledge I have been able to feel confident about starting a project with my hobby that is flowers 💐. God bless you, your family and your business. May God give you back everything you give us.
Hi again - I keep sending questions on each of your videos! 1) I saw another video about people freaking out about shipping costs doubling & tripling when the Post Office went to just dimensional pricing vs weight? So, do they not use weight at all? 2) I also saw a video where they said that Etsy priced the shipping a lot higher (is that if you use their label?) than using USPS Retail and taking it to post office? Your video said post office would pick up? 3) Did you get average weight/size? of your wreaths and find out shipping to both coasts and in-between and just average it? Thanks for trying to answer so many questions.
Hi! 1) they still calculate weight, but now when the package is over a certain size, the dimensional weight is added to the regular weight. For example, I could have a 3lb package that is priced at 13lbs because the dim weight is added to the actual weight. That’s why I only ship USPS if my package is under a certain size. But they still use weight. 2) Using Etsy shipping labels saves me an average of 20% off my shipping. It varies. But it definitely is cheaper to use Etsy’s shipping labels in my personal experience. I have also had a few returns, and I’ve noticed that the price they paid to ship it back is always more expensive than what it cost me to ship it to them. And yes, you can schedule a pickup from USPS. You can even do that straight from Etsy now, which is super convenient! And it’s free! 3) yes 😊
Yes, I look at a zipcode in shipping zone furthest from me, mid range, and close to me. Just to get an idea of the ranges I’ll pay. Then I average the cost, or just a little above average. That way it evens out in the end.
Good morning I have a question it seems obvious but I am going to ask any way hehe when you offer larger wreath size you measure across the wreath to determine a size and move up in size you do it on a bigger grape vine correct. I hope this makes sense
What kind of pricing formula have you used to price your products?

I stumbled upon your youtube channel and it's giving me hope to try it once more! it's true what you said, that's not your market. i just need to get passed the "awkward" phase.
Yes! That can be so hard to hear!
@@JennysWreathBoutique yes for sure!! Can be so discouraging
Thank yo so much, I would consider myself a newbie to crafting but I always get compliment on what I make. Thank you for sharing how to price the wreaths to sell. I've been under pricing my wreath. You have a new follower.

Thank you Jenny this video has really helped Mr not just with prices to charge for wreaths I'm wanting to start selling this year but on my wood signs abd decor too I've struggled with what to charge or how to charge and my mum daughter and friends have told me many times I do nit charge enough but after watching this video I have a much clearer idea on how to charge properly so thabk you so much ,all the best Mary in Australia 🌻😊

Thanks so much for watching! Glad you found me too :)
Goodwill is great looking for large swatches of fabric as well. And some wreath decorations like signs and flowers.
I’m so glad that was helpful! The only place I do wreath critiques is inside my wreath making VIP group.
Thanks so much, Morgan! I’m so glad my videos have been helpful. To answer your question, I don’t use anything for inventory tracking.

Hi Jenny not sure how you make money on your beautiful lambs ear wreath I just bought the supplies 😅your prices are great and free shipping your amazing!! Loving all your videos I’m going to do multiples thanks for all the great tips!
Yes, lamb’s ear can get expensive! I have to get them half off at least, or I don’t buy them.
Also, if you’re looking at the price of my lamb’s ear wreath, it’s the smallest size price that shows up. My prices get much higher with the wreath size.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge... very informative.!!..

Thank you Jenny I have been having a hard time trying to figure out how to price the wreaths I make for sale. Thank you again.
Thanks for watching! ❤️
Good information. Thanks
Very helpful. Thanks so much.

Wonderful info. Just to clarify and I can always ask this when the vip thing begins but with the eucalyptus wreath you charge more for a bigger size but still use the 18” wreath. Is that bc you’re using more greenery and making the width wider with that greenery?
Yes if you’re using more greenery, that will change the formula and thus the price. ♥️
Thanks this video was very helpful!

Sandy
When I list a wreath for sale, the diameter is the finished decorated size.
Great video.
Thanks!

Darice got bought up by Michael's and has closed their doors.
Lise Rod yeah, such a bummer

Hi Jenny, I watched 4 of your videos today and have to say I loved watching your shows. Even though this question has nothing to do with how to sell. Have you ever made a bow that has both wired and unwired ribbon? I also notice that you answer questions which I haven't found from a lot of videos on wreath making. Thank you.
Hi! Thanks for watching! I have made a bow that had both wired and unwired (only because I accidentally ordered one unwired 🤦🏻♀️), and I didn’t like it very much.
I love your vidoes. where do you purchase your shipping boxes please. tthanks
I get most from Uline and Amazon. Here’s a link to a common size I use rstyle.me/+ygGmtOW0FSHdt77kCcsUkg
No Most of all the craft fairs are canceled 🙁
Gracias Jenny, great tips.
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! 😊

@@mariarosero thank you! I really appreciate it!
3) yes 😊
Jenny this is a great vid question how do you determine the shipping cost do you determine the price based on the furthest zip code
