I had the reverse experience with Perfect Strangers than you, probably because I'm somewhat older. I was in elementary school in 1986 and I remember when Perfect Strangers was a brand new TV show, I grew up with this show from childhood, middle school and finally reaching high school. I watched it all the time for a few years. But by the 90s, I was in late middle school/high school and the show was just too stupid for me, your nostalgic flashback shows me that it wasn't just me turning into a "too cool" teenager that turned me off to Perfect Strangers after 1990, the show genuinely became more stupid and childish and it actually had far more witty humor in the 80s episodes.
The mid-years Perfect Strangers was classic wholesome TGIF entertainment, even though they eventually ruined it. I don't think anyone even watched that last season. I remember catching an episode of it in the summer of 93. That was sort of the end of TGIF for me at which point I just got too old to take the various series seriously as I entered my teens.
I can definitely see that. I watched TGIF into early ‘97. I moved that summer and it was the end of so many things. Family Matters and Step by Step had changed to CBS and I wasn’t inclined to watch. I dropped watching Nickelodeon cold turkey with the move as well.
I remember outgrowing Perfect Strangers around 1990 as I became a teenager. Family Matters and Step by Step I stuck with until about 1994 or 1995 or so, they could be silly and stupid too, but still had a fresher charm about them. But Perfect Strangers golden years were in the 80s, 1986-1989, the show was sizzling hot in 1986, 1987.
Great show. I remember this one when it was new and your right. The writing in the early seasons was far better than the tail end of the show. Like the "biby-baka" episode was pure gold. But it was always fun. I still think the 2 parter where the mob/underworld is trying to kill Larry and Balki in season 6 is so ridiculous I LOVE IT! Favorite episode...
I love Perfect Strangers!!! I own all the seasons. The writing at the end seasons did get a bit hokey but the cast did well with the scripts they were given. Bronson sure evolved over the seasons. He was super good looking by season 7. The guys were definitely brilliant together. They could easily be in a list of great duos like: Abbott and Costello, Martin and Lewis, etc. When I need a good laugh I can always count on Perfect Strangers to get me rolling!
My wife and I did a full rewatch a couple years back. We watched the first few episodes and were surprised at how well they held up. Not a brilliant show, but the first two seasons were genuinely funny. Then the plots started got stupider. Seasons Three and Four were still okay, coasting on the goodwill from the first two seasons. But the quality dropped off a cliff around Season Five. By the end, we were actively rooting for Cousin Larry to finally strangle Balki and get it over with.

Well of course I do, don't be ridiculous! LoL
It's my favorite sitcom of all time!
80s sitcoms were a lot of fun. 90s mostly too.
I’m not even sure there’s a hit sitcom in production right now.
@@VaughnJogVlog None. Lol.

Haven't seen the show in like 30 years but damn some of those scenes you cut gave me some crazy childhood flashbacks.
As a Gen X'r this video brought back a lot of memories.
Got some recommendations? Sadly, seems half the older shows I have fuzzy memories on aren’t available.
@@VaughnJogVlog Other overlooked shows in the same vein that come to mind would be Head of the Class and The Facts of Life.

Yeah real shame that Balki changed for the worse. He went from means well, innocent, and endearing to obnoxious and actively antagonistic.
Teens really didn't watch TGIfriday it was more for the 9-13 year old.
It was pretty much over by the time I hit 13, or at least the top shows were gone by then.
@@VaughnJogVlog I remember my bosses daughters love love loved it.....they were like 9-12
Totally agree.
They were supposed to be cousins? I thought they were supposed to be gay men.
This young generation and wannabes are captured and fascinated by the hoodie. I wonder if they know the hood is actually ornamental.
