Makes me so mad that noelene didn't ask for any of this and in catherines twisted mind she blamed noelene and spat on her grave. Nobody wants to steal your man catherine, YOU ABDUCTED HER
Reminds me of paul bernardo and karla. He was a serial rapist but never killed anyone until Karla was around and it was girls she thought he liked more than her. Also junko furuto, one of her assailants moms defaced her grave and blamed her for ruining her sons life...
I'm surprised no one mentioned the fact that the police didn't believe Kate at first and were gonna write her up for giving a "false report" and treating her like she was just crazy. That's absolutely insane to me, so many more women could have died if not for her.
Typical police behaviour 🙄
misogyny. i’m grateful Kate was so smart to put the evidence there for police so they would know she was there. and thankful the one female cop was there to listen to her story and believe her.
@Ena 123 this is what I don't get. Just because someone ran away does not mean they are safe. Their whereabouts are still unknown, they are underage and possibly in dangerous situation. Doesn't matter if they run away willingly or were taken against their will - they still need to be found asap. This "they just run away, they will probably come back in a few days" is the wildest of excuses and I cannot understand how people can use it to rationalise not doing anything.

Oh totally! I think It’s sad af.
David Burkowitz
I don't think that they would have been good people regardless; many people grow up in severly abusive households and never become serial killers, but I do think that if they had been therapized from a young age and had a better household growing up that they might have had a better chance at becoming decent people.
There are many serial killers that had perfectly normal and happy homes growing up. There are no guarantees. Just saying..
@@Fmanzo10 true but there is a difference between a sociopath and a psychopath. A psychopath is born, a sociopath is made.
25:00 - Far out, I hitched in the late 80s, and I was terrified of the wrong person/people picking me up. One creepy man told me, "Your door and window don't open from the inside -- I'll have to go around and open it from the outside." The whole 10 minute trip, my heart was bashing, but I acted cheerful and interested in him. When he stopped, for me to get out, he just sat, staring at the dash. My instincts took over. I grabbed the door handle, and it opened. He gave me the most shocked look, like "HOW?" All I felt was relief _and_ terror, that the door should not have opened, so I acted blase, smiling and thanking him. When he drove off, I BAWLED my eyes out, my whole body trembling as I walked to the shops, that I'd quite possibly just escaped a very messed up situation (to say the least).
Which is why people should never get into the car with anybody they don't we have all been taught don't go with strangers or don't talk to strangers but I guess back in the '70s and eighties people did that on a regular basis hitchhiked and stuff. But I just don't understand how they didn't worry about their safety. There were murders back then and all the things that happened today happened back then maybe it wasn't as open but I would be very leery about getting into the car with anybody I did not know very well. These two are just pure evil
@@nicoletrandel2966 Oh, no, there was HEAPS of warnings about hitching back then. Even though I was so shy I would not walk across a busy road on my own, I had to get away from my nasty, nitpicking parents on weekends. They'd moved 20 minutes drive away from the nearest bus service and would refuse to drive me to it, just for me to socialise. I'd cry, begging them, because I *hated* hitching, but they'd say, "You don't have to see your friends. Just stay home." A lot of the time I would, but sometimes the need for escape was so great, the danger seemed worth the risk.
@@nicoletrandel2966 well the be fair back in the 70 and 80’s thats when serial killer really started popping up so they thought it was safe
@@crystaleuwing8411 exactly. The 60s/early 70s hitching was still pretty safe(per my parents words) but it got bad in thr late 70s/early 80s, when my mom was a teen/early 20s. The serial killers really started popping up after highways were built I rhe 50s, here in the US anyways. Make sense.
How brilliant Kate was in her circumstances. Thankfully, she got out and put a stop to their murder spree!! How many more would there have been had she NOT escaped!?
My heart broke for Noelene even more, just the fact that she tried and may have felt like she could survive .. omg i just can’t imagine
Yes! And then she spit on her grave, like you kidnapped and tortured her..Why are you mad at how she tried to survive!?
Imagine susannas dad and how the one night he doesn’t walk her home, this happens to his daughter :( it’s so heartbreaking...
Literally, this was probably his worst nightmare :(((
It is kind of crazy that his worst nightmare happened! Like the chances of it happening are quite slim statistically...
Like anything "middler" level stuff could have happened to her instead, but being picked up by serial killer couple on the only night when the dad is not there to pick her up...yes, the chances are slim!
This is so appalling how do they not believe the victim? When there's a number of woman showing up murdered?
They didn't know that the other victims had been murdered, they were just missing
Watch enough true crime and you'll realize that police in general are super lazy. Oh and too often incredibly stupid and miss obvious stuff that's smacking them in the face. So many serial killers could have been stopped with halfway decent police work. But that would take the police actually working and too many would rather dismiss a case or evidence if it makes their job easier.
Women just aren't believed in a lot of cases unfortunately. And for the time especially, police in most countries are still very "boys club" is. It'd be nice to think that whoever would have gone to listen to her even after being told she was making a false report, that just by listening to the fear in her they'd believe her, but I really don't think if anyone other than a woman had listened to her that anything would have been done.
They hadn't found any bodies yet, at that moment they were missing. But the police thought they just ran away. Still though, a bunch of women and girls going missing in the same area around the same time really should've clued them in smh
The eye surgeon must feel SO guilty for not picking up his daughter that night.
he probably has terrible guilt for the rest of his life and the worst part was it absolutely wasnt his fault :(
:(
i was thinking that too. i felt horrible. like the ONE night he didn’t do it and she died a terrible death and leading up to it as well.
i was thinking that too. i felt horrible. like the ONE night he didn’t do it and she died a terrible death and leading up to it as well.
Omg that was my first thought, so sad. He probably blamed himself for the rest of his life.
at the time of the killings , my mums cousin was living in willagee, literally 6 houses down from the birnies. david approached my mums cousin one day and asked her if she would like to come over some time, but she turned him down , and told my mum and the other cousins that she thought he was super weird and creepy for wanting to hang out with someone considerably younger than himself. she also said that after the arrests , loads of the neighbours talked about how they always thought there was a puppy in the house because they could hear whimpering and crying , but that in the end it was probably likely the girls
I was living down the road a bit. Oddly enough I did a job at the house a couple of years ago
Wow, thank goodness she didn’t accept the invite. That’s so heartbreaking the part about the puppy noises :( I’m from Perth myself, this was hard to watch. Thanks for sharing your story!
i know it's technically not a good thing but it's almost a relief to hear that they were beaten up in prison

Lisa Mott is/was my mums cousin. She would have been 53 this may. So sad that her childhood was robbed, her siblings had to live without her and her family torn apart. My heart breaks for all victims but this one is especially close to home.
The thing that angers me the most is the fact that they were so many times in and out of the prison before they commited all this horrible crimes, i feel like it could have been prevented if justice system actually worked.
the justice system works to punish, not treat. the crimes might have been preventable had the bernies seeked psychological help for their childhood issues earlier on. but a justice system working on a prevention basis is doomed to be biased and corrupt. the power to decide a man will be guilty in the future of further crimes should not be given to any one.
If the justice system worked to rehabilitate inside of punish it would work better. Most people in prison will get out and reoffend. Even if it’s a petty crime they somehow go to worse crimes
I think the problem is that prison isn't harsh enough for most criminals. Prison should be actual punishment; 1 meal a day, no time with others, no tv, radio or any type of technology or entertainment. If one enters the system twice and it's proven beyond a doubt they did the crimes or they confess, prison should then be for life.
Think of how many people could’ve been saved if police ever took SO many of these disappearances and the people searching for their loved ones seriously. Not even just this case, but countless cases.

Some movies encourage this; meeting soulmate, new adventure, nice ppl, etc.
Back in the 70s when I was a child lots of people did it. I lived in a semi rural place where things and friends were miles apart, the rides I got were from known people, neighbors. That gave me a false sense of normalcy and safety. Once I went to college, it quickly went south. Too many scary incidents, that I had to extricate myself from, so I stopped before my luck ran out.

I was just reading up on Tanya. David’s kid with his previous marriage when him and Catherine split. Her interview is so heartbreaking. She lies about who she is in fear that someone might want to kill her for revenge, and she’s never thought to have kids or get into a relationship in fear she’ll pass on psycho genes or marry someone like her dad. truly heartbreaking for everyone impacted. she said Catherine gave her, and everyone a life sentence and they don’t get parole. so she should get one too. gave me goosebumps
I think the funniest things is she’s like,”hey guys I hope you doing amazing now I’m gonna tell you about a murders” haha I love her she’s amazing
Just like how you said it’s sad how dogs don’t get to pick their owner, I feel incredibly sad for the children who are birthed from absolute psychopaths, and continuously get given back to the parents after cps take them. I 100% think this whole thing could have been avoided if the cps system done their job right and these psychopaths had a better upbringing. (I am in no way excusing their behaviour and actions but every child deserves a good start to life and these people did not get that)
