    Great video, you must spend half of your cycling time filming and I appreciate it. I am 71 and started cycling this year and have recently done the Leeds Liverpool canal trail 127 miles of it. It's never too late

      Well done John. As you say it's never too late to start and it's such a great way to travel. Canals are always a good place start as they are flat in theory. To be honest the filming doesn't encroach into the ride as much as you think. I'm glad you enjoyed the vid.

    Wonderful job with the video, Andy! Loved the effort you put in to get great shots of your ride and put it together for us! Will be doing this in 2025 after going from Fort William to Inverness on the Great Glen Way after completing the West Highland Way!! After that ... who knows! But this is helpful to see the route and how different it will be from the other two!! Thanks again for this! All the best from Canada!

    Fantastic! I got so excited about this route as soon as I learned about it. I’m riding the GNT in August. So, I’ve been thinking that if I make good time to Cape Wrath, I’ll ride this same section from Inverness back to Edinburgh. Your ride only helped deepen that interest. :)

      Good luck with that Rich. The GNT would be a good one to do and if you've got time, the Pictish Trail would be a great way to return to Edinburgh

    Hello! I really enjoyed your Pictish Trail vid. Looks like a perfect combination of being 'out there' and sneaking into a village for a lunch. After watching I looked up Pictish Trail (I live in New Hampshire, USA) and they talk about a large loop off to, I think, the NW of your route. That made me curious. Anyhoo-I'm now subscribed w you and have some catching up to do. Thank you!

    Cheers.

      Hi. I thought about joining the Badger Divide, followed by the Pictish Trail and then finishing off with part of the John Muir Trail as a big circular route. Its just getting the time...

      If you did that@@silverfox8525you should call it the Proclaimers' Way! It's about 500 miles if you do the Badger Divide and Pictish Trail (Inv-Edi) together!

    Top ride Andy. We rode from Alnwick to Carnoustie in April over 4 days and our route crossed some of yours. We also pedalled up to Arbroath on the 5th day without the bikepacking gear - I thought the Harbour was really nice there. It looks like the weather was kind to you. Thanks for sharing.

      @silverfox8525  Год назад

      Hi Graham. I saw the weather forecast and went for it. Stunning route. You're right, Arbroath is a great spot with a lovely harbour and seafront. Did you follow the Sandstone Way to Berwick?

    • @grahamhaines9931
      @grahamhaines9931 Год назад

      @@silverfox8525 We did the Coast and Castles up to Berwick as I’d done it before. Then we carried on to Eyemouth for the first overnight stop. The next day we followed the coastal route to Dunbar, then a mix of John Muir way and NCN 1 to Edinburgh for stop 2. After the Forth road bridge we did the Fife Coastal path to Levens and over the hills north to a campsite at Upper Largo. Day 4 saw us on a mix of roads to Dundee then the coastal trail
      Up to Carnoustie.

    hi thats the best one ive seen, you do absolutely stunning cheers for heads up on route this one ill investigate further brilliant, can i ask a favour would you do your set up in a vid it would be helpful to see your take and tweak my own currently use panniers but your set up would be lighter and work better ,my only one i dont like is a bag on my back cheers sam

    • @silverfox8525

      Hi Sam. Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the vids. In answer to your questions - I use an old Mountain Equipment down sleeping bag. In winter I'll also wear a down jacket. In summer I tend to use a light-weight bag from decathlon. Kielder is a great place for dark skies (and presumably the northern lights). It has numerous bothies as well. It can get quite midgey in summer though. There are various websites (such as bikepacking.com) that goes through bikepacking set ups. Also there are numerous youtube vids that do the same. I guess with the system I use, everything is central and not sticking out and makes for stable handling. It also forces you to be minimal with your kit. It's easier to throw everything in with panniers. I use a backpack to carry my water bladder and a few bits and pieces.

      thanks for reply and your thoughts in set up which your right ,main problem with panniers inc weight is getting through cycling gates really hard work and more of a pain, like that your type of set up will keep it minimalistic which makes life easier all-round thanks again for tips really enjoy the vids im retired so can pick my times and enjoy better weather but a winter in a bothy is doable built like a whippet so feel the cold lol keep up the vids and all the best on future travels @@silverfox8525

    Was planning to ride this back at the beginning of May but had to postpone due to a root canal! Gutted. Not sure when to do it now due to midges.

    • @silverfox8525
      @silverfox8525  Год назад

      You're right, I planned the route for May before the midges were out, hence midge free. The forecast was good as well. I hope the root canal is now sorted.

    Great ride, Get yourself a tick removal tool. You have to be careful with ticks as you can get Lyme disease.

      Hi. Thanks for the feedback. I do have a tick remover but left it behind - (schoolboy error considering where I was going). You're right - Lyme disease is not a good one to get, hence checking for them.
