KLX 300 - Top Speed Test/Highway.

- It’s a beautiful summer evening and I need to fuel up the bike. So let’s take the KLX out for a quick rip on a secondary highway and then the main highway and see what the top speed is! Will it keep up with the flow of traffic? Will it have enough juice to pass on the highway? Let’s find out!
*** Note *** I wanted that exit off the highway to get back into the city, if not for that I think if I had kept going straight down the highway and kept on the throttle; it felt like I likely would have gotten another 2-4 KPH (1-2 MPH) out of her. So, Officially the result of today’s test is 134 (83) … but I firmly believe the unofficial #’s are very likely (137/85).
must be geared lower than klx 230 bc i gone 78 on my 230
@@dizzlerizzle2775 Thanks for the comment. Perhaps? I really don’t know about any of that kind of gearing stuff.
Keep in mind I weigh 208 pounds. So, if a guy weighs 170, you would likely push those numbers up a few more clicks. Also, I wanted that exit off the highway, but if I had kept going and just stayed on the throttle, It felt like it may have eventually given me a few more yet, so it’s very likely if ai had done that the real top speed would have been 137/85. Either way, this gives people a good idea what it’s like. +/- by a couple.
@@redeemedadventures do you know if the klx300 is has a 13tooth front sprocket, the 230 comes with a 14
@@dizzlerizzle2775 Sorry man, I don’t know. There is a guard cover over my front sprocket otherwise I would just go outside and count the teeth for ya :)

Very informative. I really am contemplating swapping my dr for a klx. Here is a suggestion, why not show us how you can overtake on the highway. ??? Great vid . Thanks
@@ericcournoyer1595 Thanks for the comment. I did pass one vehicle on this video exactly for that purpose. To show that it can be done.
Hi, how do to mount your action camera? And where did you place a microphone? Your sound such a amazing
Thanks for the comment. I record on a GoPro 11 Hero Black. It has the GoPro media mod on it. I do not use any external mics, I did turn off the forward facing mic and the only mic recording is the rear mic on the GoPro media mod.
The GoPro is mounted via a chin mount on the outside of my helmet.
Excelente video..saludos desde Argentina.
@@hugocontin3541 Thanks for the comment!!!
Hey man. Good video. Just wanna ask how accurate is your speedometer? Those speeds you got seem to tally with other people but just wanna ask to be sure.
@@deviant721 Thanks for the comment. It tracks with what I was getting last year when everything was brand new & stock. The dealership ordered & installed the new tires. It also felt about right when I was on the highway. So based on all that I suspect that these speeds are accurate.
@@redeemedadventures That's good. Been looking again at a 300SM myself for mostly street riding so it's reassuring that the SM should be able to run on the highway (like 70-80 mph). Won't be doing all highway all the time, I just want the capability to when I occasionally need to.
@@deviant721 It will absolutely do 85-90 MPH max … and comfortably hum down the highway all day at 70-75! It’s a great bike for around town/city and short highway trips. Especially the SM.
thanks for the video!
@@hhuhtfvny For sure. I know before I bought this bike I looked for these kinds of videos to help me decide.
Hola. Cuantos kilómetros hace con un tanque de combustible?

Thanks for the comment.
When I am riding in the back country. on dirt roads and trails, the fuel light comes on around 150 - 155 KM's but I have kept riding to 170 Km's. So I can say 170 Km's for sure! likely closer to 190 - 200 before its empty.
So 75 on freeway to get to a trail( when unavoidable) is not pushing this bike to the limit with a 200lb rider. Thanks for the video man! I really want one of these amd been wondering about that
@@user-kd1zq7ti4x Thanks for the comment! Taking the bike on the highway for 5-30 minutes is totally cool. Any longer might get uncomfortable :)
@redeemedadventures oh I get that. Got some 10- 20 Mile runs at 65 speed limit to get to trails so I think it will handle it fine
how is it at 75? Solid or squirrely?
@@machupikachu1085 Thanks for the comment. Fairly solid. It’s a small & lighter bike so it’s not the same as a 700 pound Harley that’s firmly planted. But, as long as you’re paying attention and not being an idiot it’s solid enough at highway speeds to feel comfortable. I have virtually no need to take it on the highway, so except for the occasional time I just want to take it out on the highway I just don’t bother, because I do t need to. But when I do, I hit that top speed zone for 10 minutes or so, then I hit a secondary highway and slow it down by 20-30 KPH (15-20 MPH) and just cruise down the secondary highways a bit slower.
It’s not a highway speed bike, but as long as you’re a decent rider it should be no problem for shorter distances.
A300lb bike ,UD be blown all over the road , passing loaded semi"s on the highway in the wind
What gearing are you running ?
@@Mjr1348 Not sure, but it’s all stock gearing … whatever that is?
@@redeemedadventures ok. It’s a 14 tooth front and a 40 tooth rear then.
@@Mjr1348 That sounds right to me, but I’m not sure myself :)
Ah I've always wondered what these things top out at
@@NicksterNOC Thanks for the comment. Keep in mind I weigh 208 pounds. So, if a guy weighs 170, you would likely push those numbers up a few more clicks.
