I don't think it's a Ford purist thing, but for those who like to "show" their tractors they like to keep it as original as possible. I think most would say, if your generator is in good working condition, and you have a healthy engine tuned properly, and a good 6V battery, they feel it isn't necessary to switch to 12V. They will also probably tell you if you live in a real cold area or if you want to use your tractor and not as a trailer queen, then 12V is the way to go. I use a few places to buy my parts for my Ford tractors, Just8ns, Dennis Carpenter, Yesterday's Tractors, Riplee's, and Pine Valley (the last two local places). You can get a free catalog from Dennis Carpenter, and they are a licensed Ford parts supplier and producer, and they carry parts for old Ford tractors, cars, trucks, etc. www.dennis-carpenter.com/ Gotta love the old N Series Fords. That one must be late 50 to 52, since it's a side mount distributor.
Hahahaha....I pretty much agree with all you said about 6v/12v. Neither of us has ever done the 'show' circuit so to speak. We like to be as trouble free as can be and be able to get on one and get going. My brother still has some tractors operating fine on 6v, but it looks like this one is going to be a candidate for the 12v conversion. I appreciate all the guys that DO keep them original and show them though. They have much more dedication than I. Yes, this is a '52 and most all the parts came from Just8n's. He did get a few small parts at the local auto parts. Freeze plugs and the like. And the distributor from Amazon. I'm gonna order one of the Dennis Carpenter catalogs...I have a couple old Ford trucks I need some parts for. Thanks for the thoughts and the link.

It’s a shame FORD did not add grease zerk to front bolster during assembly.
I agree, it would be a simple and effective solution to a well known problem.
Ha! My old 8N needs a total rebuild too. Head gasket just let go and now I have a radiator full of oil. Your brother's 8n sounds real good. Where did he source his parts from?
The majority came from Just8n's. But a couple things were the local Auto parts stores and he bought the distributor as a new stock Amazon purchase.
@@tractorman4461 Thanks Wendell!
Thanks for the video. I got a much older brother too. Lol. What’s up with your wrist or thumb? Take care my friend
The starter rope was jerked out of my hand mid stroke on the Stihl 660 A couple weeks ago and it messed up a nerve in my forearm. My hand was sweaty and lost my grip and I hadn't used the decompression button PLUS it was horizontally inserted in a 28'' oak mounted to an alaskan mill. )-: It is still tender all the way to the elbow. No biggie...it'll feel better when it quits hurting. LOL

Boy o boy DaveyJO you sure have the good ideas !! I doubt if all the Kings horses and all the Kings men could get the Much Older Brother in a tutu again.....not that he's EVER been in one though. LOL. I'm pretty sure we can put this idea to rest no matter HOW good it is. LOL. Thanks for the hearty laugh this fine morning my friend. Enjoy the hot cuppaJO, because that's 'zactly what I'm doing.
dont like 6 volt system especially in uk with damp conditions us army found the problem starting there vehicles in ww2 in on 6volt
Well 6v has its place and if it's a working system I don't mess with them...otherwise they get the 12v treatment. I don't work on generators 6v OR 12v. Thanks Nigel...I hope your summer is shaping up nicely over there my friend.
You can get a free catalog from Dennis Carpenter, and they are a licensed Ford parts supplier and producer, and they carry parts for old Ford tractors, cars, trucks, etc. www.dennis-carpenter.com/
Gotta love the old N Series Fords.
