Totally agree and I'm sick and tired of it too BUT, I'd still rather have those than the horrid, racist, and sensationalist anti-China content which is not only rampant on RUclips (and thus even more annoying), but also heavily promoted by the platform since Google (YT owner) is a US government contractor.
100 percent agreement on that - but just because there are worse things out there doesn’t mean this issue doesn’t deserve attention. I'd go so far as to say those other videos you mentioned are actually dangerous.
Totally agree with you, also, I think it's ridiculous that the westerners complain about why the Chinese people don't speak English, maybe one day if Elon Musk sends them to Mars, they will insist Martians should speak English too.
They may think that the government does not allow Chinese people to speak English, otherwise people will wake up, and at the same time, they think that Chinese who go abroad are outstanding in every way, and those who stay in China are numb🤣
in China? Or in the country that the Chinese are living or studying in? Cause there are language requirements, which China is also in the process of implementing because many people in China believe foreigners can't learn Chinese.
I have to say it was a shocking to me by what I saw in China and what I heard about China. And I kept saying ‘Wow’, ‘wow’ and ‘wow’ to many things I experienced during my first trip to China in 2019. So I don’t blame those people who were showing the same feeling when they first visited China, especially for those who come from the Western countries where the mainstream media is bombarded with negative narrative about China. When China makes successful stories, the mainstream media would try to do everything to discredit China’s successful stories. If something negative happens in China, the mainstream media would make it sound even worse with exaggeration and disinformation. So it is naturally for them feel shocked when they first visited China. At the same time, I totally understand where your thinking is coming from. I am glad that you are living comfortably in China and China treats you well. I wish I can be like you living in a place where a greatest transformation is taking place right in front of you. Thanks for sharing your point of view and hopefully those who visited China for the second time will not be so shocked.
@@Tmfreeland As a muslim, i'd rather live in China and i'd feel safer there compared to a middle east in chaos due to U.S interference, influence, military presence and interventions. And stop lying about Uyghurs.
I live in San Francisco, people need to go through security check whenever they go to a concert, big public gathering, and now even go to night clubs. Recently the city installed more CCTVs because the public security issue, homeless people on the street attacking people and crime rate going up dramatically. How come no one is complaining about that?
US cities are dying....that's what. Lobby = bribery = corruptions. Legalised corruptions. Most corrupt political system on earth. Corrupt system are killing a once great nation. Pitiful.
Because the Western media tells you: you live in freedom... and then you can hide in your warm home at night when the street security is chaotic and learn how free you are from TV.
I think you raise some valid points about certain pro-China vloggers who rely on clickbait tactics. While I believe many of them are genuinely passionate about China, there does seem to be an element of opportunism, especially among newer arrivals. If their content helps shift Western perceptions of China in a positive way, I'm still supportive of that. However, I fully agree with you that it's important to move beyond the superficial and focus more on the people and culture. There are creators out there, like yourself, who are doing this well, and I recently discovered a channel called "A Scott In China," which offers unscripted walks through everyday life in China-really refreshing and substantive content. I agree with your main points, but as long as the coverage is genuine and contributes to breaking down prejudices, I think we can all play our part. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
lived in Canada for 40 years and considering moving to China with quite many friends here sharing the same thoughts of moving away. We are seeking a safe, affordable and normal society to live as retirees. * Yesterday, there was a You tube clip on vending machine selling drug snorting kit outside a hospital here was appalling !!!! Time to leave...
Canada with its taxes, its government and things such as you mentioned, the drug paraphernalia vending machines outsides hospitals is a telling story of which way this country is headed. Definitely needs an overhaul but Im not holding my breath it will happen even with the government change which should be apparent next year. Lived in Canada over 40 years as well and the thought of leaving this country has not entered my mind with the exception of the last 5 years or so.
@@fantasycelestial2908 Race doesn't have anything to do with it but, proper immigration protocols and annual limitations should exist in any country. Hence when you see the current government starting to deport people because of their errors in judgement and policies.
You should talk about the real Anti China channels like Serpenza, Laowhy86, China Uncensored, Joe Rogan, Dr.Phil and how they really spewed hate, not only misinformation but real hate.
Yeah you've a point there - the focus should be on the anti-China crowd, but whilst I absolutely agree with you, and can't stand those guys - it's petty and embarrassing to get into a RUclipsr spat. Those guys spew so much vitriol that they come undone by themselves.
They mostly do not deserve the energy. I followed Laowhy and Serpoentza before they discovered that there was more money in being anti Chinese, oh and when their business plans failed with that so called episodic movie/travel vlog. Cretins..
💯 it’s childish and it’s like WWE - all intended to create clicks and likes. There’s too much ‘us and them’ stuff in the world to even contemplate joining in on that stuff.
Clickbait aside, my Chinese wife and I, enjoy the videos by Cyrus Janssen, who does go into depth subjects regarding USA v China scenario, Jerry's Take on China, Jason Lightfoot, Lee Barrett, Fermube, Jerry Goode, Alex in Chonqing etc
Wow, I can finally relate to and upvote a video, I totally hear you! I LOVE China, amazing and beautiful but also see what you see and I'm so tired of and repulsed by all the incredibly biased videos that employ or attract a lot of ugly, negatively biased, hypo-criticisms of the US/West. I think it's exploitive and I'm concerned ramping up tourism to China can often ruin what we love about a place. Essentially I'm concerned about the level of self-serving and overly materialistic thinking. I have been trying to "raise the bar". I would like to do whatever possible to support and share your channel.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 so true! I just came across your channel. I’m a Korean American who moved to the US in 1984 and lived in NYC from 1997 to 2020, and retired in the Midwest. I’ve always been fascinated about China and her culture, history, politics, etc., and particularly, the amazing President Xi Jinping. I watched these videos out of curiosity to see how far China has come in rejuvenating and modernizing the country. After a while, it became old and I got tired of the clickbaits and silly thumbnails. I agree with you 100%. Although they might mean well, it is condescending to portray China in an almost cartoonish way. And those who are ignorant about China, especially here in the Midwest, get turned off by these videos, and write them as propaganda. The same goes for channels that discuss economics and politics. They make “predictions” about what is going to happen, how sanctions and such will hurt China, what China should do, etc, as if the Chinese government is stupid to not have thought about these issues. They plan ahead, and they are well aware of what is to come and what needs to be done. I stopped watching these videos. Instead, I watch CCTV, CGTN, newsletters from actual industries, such as railway companies, to get information on which heads of states (not just from the west and Japan) are meeting with President Xi, what kind of agreements they are signing and what is actually being built. I read all 4 volumes of President Xi Jinping’s speeches, and it is absolutely astonishing and breathtaking to see that the things he talked about over a decade ago has actually been realized. Just the first volume alone foretells what is happening in China right now. He lays out everything that debunks the anti-China propaganda. And to understand his speeches, you have to learn at least the basics of Chinese culture and history. Anti-China propaganda ramped up and intensified when President Xi came to power. The western media portrayed and still portrays him as authoritarian that amassed power to himself. However, he was cleaning house. There was an unimaginable level of corruption in the Chinese government. It would not have been possible for China to become a powerhouse without tamping down on corruption. One example, President Xi talked about repairing the ecological damage that was caused by the rapid growth of the economy after opening up. His speech was made in 2012. By 2018, he ended the dumping of garbage (posed as recyclables) from the developed countries. The US didn’t pay attention or dismissed him, and did nothing until President Xi announced that China would no longer take their trash. Unknown to the public is that the importation of “recyclables” was a condition for China to enter into the WTO. The US told China that recyclables are good for China because it would make it unnecessary to build an industry from scratch. I remember seeing images and videos back then of young children as young as 3 or 5 helping their mothers and fathers sift through all the garbage. To add to the injustice, the US turned it to a business. China was BUYING American (and other western countries) trash. When China announced that it would stop, I knew that China was in good hands with President Xi. Meanwhile, other countries like Malaysia and especially Thailand are suffering with the plastic and trash that is being dumped there. The people are suffering so much from it. The government is so corrupt that it doesn’t care about their people or their nation. People have no idea how important President Xi is to China. The decrease in air pollution and the increase in trees, greenery and such are results of his policies. Unfortunately, vloggers miss the point that China is modern BECAUSE of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, and not DESPITE of. So, they think it’s enough to show modern buildings and high speed railways…and be WOW’ed! It would be nice to see channels that tie everything together, culture, history, economics, politics, even at the most general level. Outsiders need to learn about China and not be afraid of China. President Xi is a very sophisticated Marxist and the form of government is Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, but that doesn’t mean that our native countries should be led in the same way. China is China. They have no interest in changing other countries or “taking over” the world because they are not stupid. It doesn’t benefit them to lose their sovereignty. It would be nice to see people not be so afraid and paranoid about China.
Tôi cũng phát ốm với mấy yotuber rỗng tếch đó, giờ tôi phải chuyển sang xem mấy kênh của chính phủ Trung Quốc, toàn những kênh chuyên sâu nhưng lượng view cực kỳ thấp
I have always been fascinated about CHINA too!! I read a book, which title was 'CHINA' by the way, and it was fascinating to learn about it. But that was back in the late 1990s. And ever since, I had CHINA inside my heart and Curious About it. I wish to have the PLEASURE of Visiting China One Day and Spend Some Time there with my Precious Daughter Gabriela!!!
I honestly dont mind. It's not like its done with malicious intent and just curiosity. Just need a few mors yesrs of china vlog content before it becomes "normalized" like what happened to japan. So much westerners have done every type of Japan content that its boring. Besides, China is a cultural shock to westerners since all five senses are engaged.
@@snide64 It'll continue to be overdone until the impression of China in mainsteam media is positive. I don't think this is going to happen for the next 30/40 years. So any conversion concerning China will simply be negative and full of stereotypes for the foreseeable future.
Personally I don't mind those channels, at least they give another perspective about China that western MSM media often portray China negatively. It is what it is. It's fine you do your own things.
Love your videos. I have a friend who just finished studying medicine here in nyc with her boyfriend. They are now studying TCM and living with her family. The US puts warnings on everything she tries to send
welcome to settle in china, it is undeniable that there will be more foreigners to settle in china in the future, but china will not have a large number of immigrants like the United States and the united kingdom. although china's short-term economy is not good, I am very optimistic about the long-term. I am currently living in chongqing. I used to work in it and am currently looking for a job. I received a call from the recruitment software, asking me to learn industrial robots, and it is government-funded free training. I can also get a certificate. This made me understand that the country is solving the employment problem. china will gradually start mid-to-high-end industries in the future. The belt and road Initiative and the made in china policy will solve the employment problem in china. the social system determines that there will be no homeless. In addition, thank you for providing chinese and english subtitles. the speed of speaking is slow, which helps me learn english
You hit the nail right on the head. Using shock face to get click will definitely get the opposite result as eventually people will not click on their story.
Hey, first time here… I think thumbnails are explained by RUclips marketing courses and the new visa regulations. There’s an influx of visitors with big enough channels and for them - everything is new. Of course some of the ones you mentioned are old China hands… they’re just following the trend. If anything- that’s a hurdle for someone like me: nothing is new after 24 years here. Those courses tell people what to do. Down to front loading first 30 seconds. And they seem to work. I run 3 China channels and after 7 years doing this … I learned telling the truth about China doesn’t grow channels. I’m more into fighting misinformation and picturing China’s place in today’s world than anything else. But the narrative is so strong in the west, it’s like hitting your head against a wall. BTW - I did Xinjiang 5 months in my RV … self funded. And I do get the Grand Bazaar vlog and the Ancient City vlog … they fit right into the Xinjiang Disney of the west, without them knowing it. Fact is, to discover XJ is expensive
Very telling that I haven’t been to your channels - there’s the evidence. From your description, it’s exactly what I’d be into, but it hasn’t been shown to me by RUclips. I’ll subscribe now and check it out. I suppose it comes down to purpose. Measured, calm and sensible approach doesn’t lead to clicks. I’m not here to grow my channel like that…I figure if I build it, the right people such as yourself show up and become part of a ‘community’ of subscribers. I’d rather that than squillions of views and bot comments.
Thank you for saying this, just coming across your channel now and RUclips couldn't have recommended a better first video to watch of yours. I completely agree, I find the whole thing nothing short of disrespectful. RUclipsrs are arriving in China for the sole purpose of high RPM views and getting 10+ times their usual views yet they have the audacity to make a mockery of the country they're relying on for this. To pretend that every time you turn on the BBC the gray-haired fella says "people of Britain, China is a poor nation without technology. It is dirty and the people are terrible!" and then be "shocked" when they find out "OMG China has Electric Cars?!?! 🤯" or literally in the centre of Chengdu "It's SOO CLEAN here WOW, I just Can't believe China is so clean!! The Media lied to me!!!" It's absolute nonsense, sure I'm not an avid watcher of BBC news etc but I know for a fact the news about China is normally about their rapid growing economy, how China is the leading electric vehicle producer etc etc. I find it sad that for your average Chinese lad trying to watch RUclips and see their home country, perhaps they're studying abroad, they have to sift through this circus of shite. This doesn't happen to any other country, no other place has it been acceptable to pretend their country is in the stone-age and when you arrive be shocked they have running water.... and then get 500k views. Finally, for people who have a genuine interest in China, Chinese culture, Mandarin or dialect language learning, the whole RUclips scene has been cheapened by these people. Rant over. TL:DR - warra load of shite.

As viewed from here, the "shock" kind of thumbnails and titles are but a way of showing sarcasm towards Western MSM and their politicians that feed on China bashing. Their ways of making videos might not be the best or ideal, they however tell the truth and reality of what China is and how China is. So far the best channel I have observed is the one called "Inside China Business" by a US citizen who has been living and doing business in China for 13 years by now, purchasing China-made large machines and agriculture gadgets and selling them to the US. Go visit his channel. I am sure you can learn a great deal from that gentleman.
Don't be fooled by that channel. It's a very tricky and shameful modernized christianity propaganda channel. It gives all credits of China's development to its "god". But the fact is the opposite, we believe that people make the history.
Agree. Very few things in China is shocking. I can't even recall anything being just that. I'd call places, scenic views, development and such as "impressive" or just "different" from what I'm use to from the west. So when you bring this up I'm just smiling because I've noticed exactly the same thing on youtube.
For me is the trend of fake RUclipsr vlogger on everything shocking about China that piss me off. Well said mate. We tend to share the same thoughts and I hope I get to speak to you one day here in China.
yea exactly, it's getting old and in return, whenever i return to the US from China, i'm genuinely shocked how pretty much nothing has changed (improved) since i left 15 years ago :)
Ahh Yes I am glad someone said it. I am so sick of seeing these stupid clickbait titles from people who know absolutely NOTHING about China coming here to just bait views. As someone who genuinely wants to share knowledge about life in China or it's history, I find these vloggers to be repulsive. A person who spend barely a week in China visiting the same 5 popularized online locations and didn't do any research just feels like regurgitated bs. I want to see more videos from experienced people living here, genuinely enjoying their life without these fake "first time" titles.
I completely agree with you. It’s frustrating to see clickbait content from people who barely scratch the surface of what China has to offer. That’s why your content is such a breath of fresh air. Your explorations off the beaten path and deep dives into China’s life and history are really cool and exactly what people need to see. It’s clear you’re genuinely passionate about sharing the real China, and it’s so refreshing compared to the superficial stuff that’s all too common.
@@snide64 that is the goal! China is one of the oldest countries in the world, I think we can learn a lot the deeper that we go. I'm looking forward to see what concepts you come up with next.
Absolutely correct man. Chinese vloggers do show the real side of China, but it seems that they continue to rely on these videos that will bring in mega views by using disingenuous, over the top titles and it is exactly like you said: boring
A lot of utuber are kind of evil minded for getting views, people like to hear things they trend to believe, if really speak for views, creating shocked headlines can atrract views; if say negative of China can up to 500k subscribe, if speak neutral or positive thing of China will only have 50k subscribe maximum. Sad things is many utuber only concern views rather than truth or facts.
You be surprised how Western world portray China. We think everyone is China is crying and loosing their jobs and homes. And people are depressed because of the government. So many people going to China was looking for people crying and their stores closed down and tanks running over people. So not seeing tanks and people crying can be a shock.
I wouldn’t be surprised by that - I intentionally watch both ‘sides’ of the news. Media has always used the tactic of pointing fingers abroad rather than address their own country’s issues.
You can go to the movie "the creator", the new Asia in it is the western view of China, even though China has advanced technology, Chinese people are still living in ancient times.
@@后宫后 problem is that might be what western world wants.. even if it was ancient times as you say.. American still wants to "slow" down their economy. Someone is scared of China progress. Whereas people have been supporting American's progress for many years. China never wanted to "slow down" their economy with sanctions. The technology in China is a lot more advanced especially in transportation, digital payment and facial recognition and many more.
@@后宫后 and have you wonder why US and it's allies want to "slow down" China?! The reason behind it is silly. They worry China will take over and rule their country. I don't think China wants to rule America and the world. They have no interest in putting military around the world. It will cost a lot of money. Their politicians are more interested in funding infrastructure than military. But US politicians spend more in Military than anything else. You see how different their priorities are?
Actually, some people know about China's progress, but they choose to deliberately misinterpret it, because China is still dependent on the West in certain core technologies (each country has its own advantages in technology industries), China is indeed more advanced in certain market applications, of course, they only believe in the end result and think that everything in China is not sustainable, anyway, They don't know much about China, I have enough confidence in China, the key is when will we see that day.
You're Right about the Condescending Part - Why do they think China doesn't have ANYTHING when China has been around Many more thousands of Years than Most of the WEST.
I'm glad you brought this up. I was getting fed up but didn't want to say anything because they were at least pro China and not spreading malicious lies.
Thank you very much for making this video about people who think they are better than everyone else in the world. I think that it’s by ignorance and lack of education. People think the world is limited just where they are, because they are narrow minded. People should know that there is another world, out there, with amazing cultures, amazing people as well.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think you've found a niche. Which is sharing the vibes and surroundings of China off the beaten path. God knows we've already seen too many of the mega touristy urban locales which are all beautiful but the places that ordinary Chinese go to in their daily lives are just as much of the fabric of life in China; so yeah, please keep up the good work.
Much of the western world views China with a condescending mindset. Call it Cold War fallout, jealousy, fear of the unknown, yellow peril, racism, whatever. It's true. So it makes sense to me, that these "other China vloggers" pander to those racists to maximise their view count because after all, RUclips is still a western-centric platform. It works--even as someone who has a rather good grasp of China's incredible comeback in the 21st century, those videos still get my attention.
Yes, a lot of people only have 15 days and can only see some of the scenic spots, you've been in China for a long time, so to get to the bottom of it, they don't have that much time. The simplest point, many people think that Chinese can't go to youtube, in fact, many people can go to youtube through VPN, and many people think that there are Communist Parties everywhere, in fact, I have lived in China for so long, in addition to going to apply for a certificate may serve me as a party member, in fact, I usually don't think they have anything special. But if foreign countries don't understand China, they won't understand this.
The thing about clickbait videos is that they LOOK LIKE clickbait videos. The thumbnails are SO obvious. I'm sick to death of the algorithm shoving them in my feed! 🤢🤮
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, dude. I appreciate that finally there is someone who can’t stand these affected shocking face about China on RUclips. But sometimes I know it’s clickbait I still relished watching their reactions or performances just like , you know, watching some country folks go to cities.
It’s good to see we’re on the same page about the over-the-top reactions some people have. While the clickbait stuff can be entertaining, it’s important to remember that genuine content gives a much better picture of what’s actually happening. It’s like the difference between watching a reality show and understanding real life-sometimes, it’s just nice to see things as they truly are, without the exaggerated performances. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
you’re right and I do believe that it’s so much more beautiful when it’s so real. However, the vast majority only believe what they want to believe. I think that’s the key ingredient to drive those “shocking face makers” to elaborate eyes-catching covers. I initially hope that I could obtain some different views from individuals with open mind and deep thinking about China. I failed until I watched your videos. People are different and so are their preferences. In my opinion most people don’t have the abilities to recognize the underlying stuff and they can be shocked rather than being changed. It sounds pessimistic but it is real.
all you have to do is look at the dates on the videos you shared. You'll notice that one of them got 3m plus views about a year ago, and so as youtube is, the rest copied her basically exact video, title, thumbmail etc - when she was actually in awe (one of the first in after the closure). The interesting part is, the one that kicked off the trend actually went on to explore more of china and had some very balanced viewpoints and got less views as a result of being honest. Unfortunately, the majority of people who want to watch westerners in China dont appreciate anything other than 100% praise. Watching some of them get mad at her actually turned me off watching any China content until this popped up on my page.
This is a problem across a number of genres on RUclips. Once something brcomes popular and does well everyone copies it. We've seen this with travel vloggers visting China for the first time. It's like they've all been given the same script. I've seen similar in other genres, especially if it's a negative stance on say an aspect of pop culture. RUclips has become a collection of copycats.
One thing that is IMPRESSIVE about China and the Chinese People is how Quickly they build infrastructure and real estate. They are way MORE Organized and hard-working. Here in the West like the USA, there is too much bureaucracy, Red Tape, and they focus SO much on the MONEY, So the projects are paused because of idiocrasy.
Yeah, I agree. Especially the more established ones, I don't know why they feel the need to turn their video titles into clickbaits when they've already got hundreds of thousands (or more) subs. Perhaps they've hit the proverbial wall and eyeballs are starting to tail off. With their easy but lazy content, that shouldn't be surprising. Silly thing is that they actually picked up that clickbait silly "tip" from the newer/younger vloggers....how's that for uncool, and admitting to being luddites and copycats? They just look weird. And the other thing is they keep repeating themselves through every new video, absolutely nothing new. Nothing screams "stale" more than that. I used to enjoy (urgh....mea culpa) watching them when they first started. I've since stopped as they were driving me to sleep like bad recordings. (Two of the absolute worst - both North Americans - are featured in your video.). Thanks for calling them out - liked, subscribed to your channel for doing us that favour!
@SNIDE - Hope they heed your advice! Spot on, mate. That constant clickbait is getting old. It's childish, tiresome, and just plain boring now. Well said!! 👍
Keep up the good work. I eagerly await your next video. And I eagerly await revisiting my wonderful Chinese friends in Shanghai next Spring. Have a great day and keep on keeping on, Buddy.
Yes the click bait is a bit of a pain, I try to look past that and listen to what they have to say some times good sometimes not good. Just came back to Aus frrom 4 weeks in Guangzhou and am finding it a little boaring here lol, we were walking heaps the most we did was 27000 steps but normally 10 to 15000.
It’s a good point that I failed to mention - the content is often alright, it’s just the way it’s presented I take issue with. 27000 sounds knackering. As a tourist easily done but I’m finding it hard to reach that number during a work day
@@snide64 Yes that 27000 was a long day walking along side the Pearl River and only did once , normally 10 to 15000 walking everywhere we could. I lost nearly 5kg in those 4 weeks now have to try and keep it off lol
Jason one is really old. He started denunking before many people even dare to do that. BBC even said he was paid by government. They even publish one whole article around him. Others are pretty new. But its good for china haters will click & learn something i guess. 😂😂
No idea who any of these fellas are; I don't watch a lot of other people's stuff. I know you should never judge a book by its cover, but if I see RUclipsrs grabbing that low hanging fruit and shock tactic in a thumbnail, no thanks. I just put my content out there and I'm done.
Yes agree that too much of the "praise" actually now painting China as a perfect paradise, which cannot be true. The jacked up expectation now makes any negative news from China gives a huge orgasm for the anti-China crowd. The truth is China has progressed truly in shocking scope, scale, and speed, that is starting to surpass the most advanced countries in pretty much unstoppable trend. But much needs to be improved, and will never be "perfect" because they are still just human, and human is the same no matter who they are, and human nature can be very ugly. I just came back from China. While I am very impressed because almost every city in any province I went, the improvement over even few years back is visibly obvious. However I also observed aspects of the human behavior not something to be celebrated. Therefore I suggest to treat China as just another modern, industrialized, and highly advanced country, but not to be presented as a utopia.
Yes, clickbaits they are. But it is okay, as long as the "shock faces" are not in all episodes. For your views, and your channel, I look forward to watching your insights into your daily life there.
You are correct. The "shocked" videos are often condescending and have a hint of disrespect. Like westerners being shocked that the Chinese in China speak Mandarin and other Chinese languages, that really gets to me. Supremacy mentality irritates me.
I see there are 3 kinds of vloggers about China. First are the ones that always tell how good China is. Second are the ones that tell good when good and bad when bad. I will say these are the honest ones. Third are the ones that have only bad things about China. Every single things are bad, according to the third kind.
Totally agree 👍👍👍, but for the firdt time travellers they might actually could only see the surfaces. Maybe vloggers who living jn China like you can dig deeper.
It's not surprising to those who know China. But it is surprising to those who don't. Even if only 1/10 viewers are genuinely surprised, the video would have served its purpose, which is to get more Westerners to know the real China.
on Bilibili, there is a certain number of channels translating "China travel" video from YTB. I can remember quite a lot of videos only with several hundred views which don't use shock faces. Not hard to see those videos are well edited, LUTed and full of studied info. So it is not because they all used shock faces, it is just the because those videos are selected by youtube. as long as the youtube allows this shortcut, why bother not to take the advantage of it?
The pattern with many vloggers seems to be to visit China with the 144 hour visa waiver system and see some of the well known sights, making the type of videos you're describing. But then... make another longer trip, exploring more places, sometimes including some less well known places. Those visits of course make for far more interesting videos.
Live and let live...just saying....Many are genuinely shock, and surprise especially where they are from...and tellingly the comments from viewers are too. So it's okay.

Agree with what you're saying but honestly they use clickbaity titles for pretty much every country they visit. Maybe not every, most, over 80% I shall say. Sometimes they could be genuinely impressed, like a pair of Brazilian vlogger couples who visited China a few months ago. I think their reactions were real because I've seen how bored they were while visiting my country.
Yep, sick of the China 'gushers' as I call them. But I'm equally sick of the anti-China propaganda channels as well. I live in China, and yeah I do like it, but making video after video singing from the rooftops about it would just seem a bit of an odd thing to do. I guess if YT is your main source of income (which it is for a lot of people) then you'll do everything you can to get people to click on your videos. My only advice would be if you really want to know how it is here, just come then you'll find out, simple.
😢 facts. They only receive the worst on us, too, as I understand it.
Not for long. As time passes, the past and present China hating critics sounded more and more ridiculous and even laughable.
China is a beautiful, modern, safe and friendly country. Blessings from Hong Kong ❤❤❤❤

Canada with its taxes, its government and things such as you mentioned, the drug paraphernalia vending machines outsides hospitals is a telling story of which way this country is headed. Definitely needs an overhaul but Im not holding my breath it will happen even with the government change which should be apparent next year. Wow, I can finally relate to and upvote a video, I totally hear you!

😂 Totally share your perspective. I supposed this trend of “wide-eye astonishment” will die out eventually.
The Media lied to me!!!"
It's absolute nonsense, sure I'm not an avid watcher of BBC news etc but I know for a fact the news about China is normally about their rapid growing economy, how China is the leading electric vehicle producer etc etc.

You took my next title! THE SHOCKING TRUTH ABOUT CHINA! ... It's pretty normal.
My view is as a nice youtuber, don't judge any other RUclipsrs, just be yourself.
That’s true. I don’t name and shame or anything, but just talking about the general trend.
all you have to do is look at the dates on the videos you shared.
They ps me off.
I'd stop watch all those headline for awhile.😊😊😊
Well said!! 👍
支持你的观点,我作为一个中国人,开始时还感觉挺有意思,什么东西会让一个老外感到吃惊的。但后来太多这样的命题与缩略图了,就完全走了形。我理解他们可能是为了点击率,但这确实有点过了。
Keep up the good work. I eagerly await your next video. And I eagerly await revisiting my wonderful Chinese friends in Shanghai next Spring. Have a great day and keep on keeping on, Buddy.
Thank you! 😃
Love walking along the river. Always mad to see what the fishermen catch - so many invasive species - even saw a snapping turtle once.
Therefore I suggest to treat China as just another modern, industrialized, and highly advanced country, but not to be presented as a utopia.
totally agree.
Supremacy mentality irritates me.
totally agree with you
I see there are 3 kinds of vloggers about China. First are the ones that always tell how good China is. Second are the ones that tell good when good and bad when bad. I will say these are the honest ones. Third are the ones that have only bad things about China. Every single things are bad, according to the third kind.
A nice park!
What city is it?
Foshan
all over and the Ai expression
Totally agree 👍👍👍, but for the firdt time travellers they might actually could only see the surfaces.
Maybe vloggers who living jn China like you can dig deeper.
thank you for saying st for china
Don't be too picky to all of them, some of them are fulltime vloggers and you should blame the YT algorithms.
@Two Mad Explorers ,他们的视频展示了更加真实、日常的中国,有大城市,有乡村,有大山,全部的钢筋水泥代表不了真正的中国。
I’ll check them out
These click bait strategy videos are ok, cause the videos all show the truth, which is how beautiful, tech advanced ...etc China is.
It's not surprising to those who know China. But it is surprising to those who don't. Even if only 1/10 viewers are genuinely surprised, the video would have served its purpose, which is to get more Westerners to know the real China.
I wanna my country be treated as a normal country as well...
on Bilibili, there is a certain number of channels translating "China travel" video from YTB.
"How to do? In China" is a very refreshing and no-nonsense channel: www.youtube.com/@HowToDoInChina
Wonderful - thank you.
Well, who can blame them. "China shocked me" gets views
I can tell you truly love China ! Good or not so good.
Indeed!

You remind me of an Indian promotional video on RUclips. Title:india 2030 incredible india
The neighborhood you are at is nice, where in China is this? So much green
Ignored a haters.
This park looks good . Are you in Shanghai or Shenzhen ?
Foshan.
8:26 true that
Yep, sick of the China 'gushers' as I call them.
Great post! 👏👏 Is it easy to move to China? I'm a retiree and I wouldn't mind to move there with my wife 👍👍
