5. Nile (tech death brutality with lots of thought put into the theme and lyrics.)

7. Mastodon (seen them 8 times!!!)
8. Opeth (I’ve genuinely enjoyed watching them explore newer territories as they put out new material
9. In Flames (probably a controversial pick but I’d say Jester Race, Colony and Reroute To Remain redeem any odd releases of theirs)
10. Fates Warning (exploring through this bands catalogue is an emotional journey you won’t regret)
Queensryche (despite a few terrible Geoff Tate led albums), Judas Priest, Voivod, Megadeth, At The Gates, Carcass Dream Theater, (despite The Astonishing) and Nevemore are honorable mentions.
It's not controversial but I'm surprised you isn't add whoracle in there, that album is immense

Happy birthday my dude. My personal favorite (as you can tell by my username) is The Dillinger Escape Plan. While they're not the first Mathcore band I listened to (That would be Daughters and Car Bomb) They were the band that got me into more extreme forms of Metal and now Mathcore is one of my favorite genres of all time along with Post-Rock and Black Metal and I can't think them enough for also making some of my favorite records of all time.

My favorites are basics, but fvck it! These are my top 10 metal bands of all time! They're definitely awesome for sure. Death deserves a top 10 spot because they're the founding fathers of death metal. Sepultura is another all time great as well, giving us Beneath the Remains, Arise and Chaos AD!
Dokken is my number one hair band. Don Dokken's a great singer, but George Lynch kills it on guitar! He's a guitar god! And Saxon is one of the most underrated bands of all time!

You didn't mention that era. Imo, "Apex Predator Easy Meat" is my favourite & i think ND's best album. Glad u mentioned "Swansong". I think it's a great album which gets an unfair wrap. Sure, it's different to anything previously released before by Carcass, but as a whole & for what it is, it's very good. Great production job by Colin Richardson too. A bit perplexed as to why some songs on "Wake Up & Smell The Carcass" were left off of "Swansong". "Blood Splattered Banner" should of at least made the cut. As for ATG, i really liked "To Drink From The Night Itself". Yeah, maybe not as good as "At War With Reality", but still very solid. Hope you both enjoy your Birthday's.

I never knew Voivod and Gorguts were French Canadian metal bands. I'm from Quebec so I'm glad they are one of your favorite bands. I'm new into metal music so I haven't listened to that much metal so far. I only listened to Metallica's whole discography and some other metal songs. But I was planning to listen to Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax next because they are the big 4 of thrash metal. But I'm now hesitating because I also want to listen to some bands from my province ASAP. What should I do next? Listen to the other big 4 of thrash metal or listen to some bands from my province?
The Big 4 is an excellent place to continue your journey, but if you want more French Canadian stuff then go for it: check out Cryptopsy, Kataklysm, Neuraxis, Fuck The Facts. Some of the best Canadian stuff you can find alongside Gorguts and Voivod.

To make my top ten list, each band has to have at least four albums that are perfect or nigh perfect in my view. Granted, I cheated slightly for Celtic Frost by including Morbid Tales, which is really an EP. There are a few exceptions in the honourable mentions, but all have at least two or three nigh perfect albums. Behemoth is my absolute favorite band still active (the broader title for me is reserved to Agalloch). I saw them this October during the European siege with Unto Others, Carcass and Arch Enemy (stacked lineup i know) and from the intro which really felt like the opening of the gates of hell to Chant for ezkaton they ruled that night. Nergal's view about religion are on point for me, but I don't know about the other controversial things he said, so I can't really put my finger on it. Hail Satan my dude. Happy birthday🎉
