In the N64 Version, the "throw the ball off a cliff" exploit didn't exist, so I'm wondering if that was an afterthought to make the game easier for PS1 audiences.
Might be a compensation made for the lacking draw-distance. Because the game was quite clearly designed with the N64 edition of the game in mind, there are more than likely parts where you can't see the floor below on the PS1 next to the N64, which would make it a crapshoot to throw things down. So they decided to not punish players for throwing the ball down a pit you didn't know was a pit before it was too late.
The 3d teapot is an old CGI reference, "the Utah teapot." It being used as an enemy was probably a cheap placeholder they didn't replace, an inside joke, or something like that.

That is a terrible idea, where you could hold and probably move the ball as a hand, if you kicked it there'd be nothing stopping it from rolling farther than you want, and you would have to keep chasing it around instead of moving it with you I liked the pun tho

Some of the physics are changed in the PS1 version compared to N64. Also another comparison is that on the PS1 a lot of segments are broken, an example being that Glovers double jump and the ball bounce being higher, making it easier to break platforming segments than on N64. Another reason people prefer the N64 to PS1, surprised you didn't mention that. But otherwise, great video as always.
I like that this trick wasn't in there, it forced me to actually play the game. But the PS1 version benefits from it since, well, it's even harder to control the ball in that one.
This game reminds me of a Harry Hill's TV Burp episode where he was making fun of a show with a character called Mr G Love but the people in the show kept calling him Mr Glove.
8:44 actually this was one of the first things glover 2 wanted to fix. Theres a spell mechanic that just lets you summon the ball whenever you want, and its clearly not just a dev thing it had an associated tutorial
Yeah, this is definitely another Shadow Man situation, since the PS1 verison is the worst. Also, whatever anyone does, DON'T play the PS1 version of Space Station Silicon Valley/EVO's Space Adventures.
Doesn't help that from what we've seen, the theme song only has about 7 notes dedicated to spelling "giant egg" so that it comes across as "gint egg" or "gant egg". Thanks for that, Billy Willy.
A lot of the issues with the controls and glitches are only present in the PlayStation version, if you want the better Glover experience yhen you really have to play the N64 version. The PlayStation version also removes the way that the overworld is a creepy hellscape that gradually returns to being a brigbt peacefull world with each crystal you return to it
I'm pretty sure they somehow ported a prototype instead of the final N64 version, because I could have sworn there's a prototype N64 rom floating around that also doesn't have the overworld shift...
@@neoqwerty I haven't heard anything about that but if it is a port of an incomplete build then that would explain a lot of tbe glitches. I do know that there's a Glover 2 rom fliating around that is a pretty incomplete build (it got cancelled pretty early in development)

Oh, and in case anyone is unaware, Interactive Software (the developers of Glover) would later be renamed Blitz Games of Royal Leamington Spa. They would produce a litany of family licenced games and a few mediocre mature games (such as the "meh" Dead to Rights: Retribution) before closing down on the 12th September 2013. They're also the studio behind the infamous Burger King game "Sneak King", and they were founded by the Oliver Twins of Dizzy and early Codemasters fame.
It's so very weird to me to think that the developers of Glover had to change the game so much going from N64 to PS1. Nowadays literally every non-exclusive on PS4 will probably be on Xbox One with no major issues AFAIK. Like imagine if when Kingdom Hearts 3 came to Xbox it played differently, and the music quality was fundamentally different. It would be bizarre.

the ps1 version was mostly panned because the physics are completely different from the n64 version but the puzzles are exactly the same so for almost all of the puzzles it either breaks them, makes them much easier, or makes them completely skippable. nitro rad does a really good job at explaining the version differences in his glover video starting at 19:21, although i recommend watching the video starting from the beginning.

Glover is very different on PS1, the N64 version is a lot better. The bandages don't appear on N64, it was added to PS1 and the levels are altered including the Hub World on PS1. They even removed the red dark fog effect that disappears when you collect more crystals. Cross-Stitch's evil laugh was also changed and the sound effects don't sound as good. The animations are also a lot better and more expressive on N64.

I mean..Donkey Kong did giant wasp as a boss..multiple times..and as an enemy all over the place! Zingers, king Zing Sting and his many alternate versions recycled for other games were giant wasps.
Main reason to use the crystal in it's original form is to rack up points. You get double points for collecting the cards. I only rarely used it in safe parts with no bottomless pits.
This games concept could benefit from a modern game/physics engine and better control scheme. I like the idea of different ball types for different situations. I wish this concept was better executed overall, because Glover’s character design is pretty good and the idea of guiding a ball like that is interesting. They could’ve made it so you need to guide the ball to the end to get the crystal in the first place. Like maybe it’s a magically charged ball to charge and collect the missing crystals. Hopefully if this game gets remade, it’ll get remade well.
I think I know why they made the hub world like that. I mean think about it, calming music, easy to mid difficulty puzzles to solve, its to calm you down and give you small motivation! Saying “yeah you can solve this!!!” Damn that’s smart!

I always love how Caddy gives his input. He doesn't just defend something because of nostalgia and also acknowledges the things bad games actually do well. It feels like too many youtubers just want to be known as the person who thinks everything sucks or defend something to death just because they played it when they were little, but Caddicarus stays overall fair with the points he makes, and I have a special respect to him because of it.

The difference in technology was much more significant. I think with the PS3 era things became more homogeneous.

I always love how Caddy gives his input. He doesn't just defend something because of nostalgia and also acknowledges the things bad games actually do well. It feels like too many youtubers just want to be known as the person who thinks everything sucks or defend something to death just because they played it when they were little, but Caddicarus stays overall fair with the points he makes, and I have a special respect to him because of it.
