  • This is a Nissan L28et turbo engine with a DIY dual purpose harness. It can be configured to use either the stock 1983 280zxt ecu (turbo version) or the or in this case a 1986 300zxt (turbo version) ecu. The selection only requires swapping the AFM and the MAF as the two ecu monitor air intake differently. One uses a movable flap (280zxt) the other a heated wire (300zxt). Also the EFI main relay and fuel pump relay are controlled differently, as well as the air regulator (used for added air during cold start). This control difference is handled by swapping a multi pin plug down at the ECU location. The pins reconfigure the needed changes to accommodate the different control pins on the ECU's.
Lastly the O2 sensors are different (zirconia vs. titania) with the latter having a built in heater. This difference was handled by using an adapter to deal with the lack of a heater on the single wire O2 sensor.
In this test run I forgot to swap out the optical chopper wheel in the distributor. The only difference I can see is the number one slot is enlarged for the 300zxt ecu. I presume this has to do with the semi sequential mode (vs batch fire) that the 300zxt can support. I will try the 300zxt chopper wheel to see if there is any difference. It maybe that the 300zxt ecu never got the semi sequential mode as the test run was short, and I understand it starts off in batch mode.
