  • Continuing the dopping methods playlist we have a brilliant way of making a custom sized dop stick using a simple screw or nail. Great for those with finger joint issues to be able to get a comfortable grip on their stones.

No worries. I still like to think I am new to the game a few years in now. Forever learning and experimenting.

Never thought of that. Arthritis in hands. Can't hold stuff in fingers This may help me. Great idea for us older people. How would using a " Dremel" as the driver to spin it against a flat surface? Dop stick in the drill. Just wondering.

Haven't done a video on that but have seen it covered by someone somewhere. It was risky because you need the opal to be perfectly symmetrical otherwise you are hammering it into the flat surface. Only really works for perfectly circular stones.

How do you remove the glue residue from the stone safely? And can you glue the polished side when finishing up doing the setting edge and safely remove the glue without affecting the polish? Cheers.

      Hi Robert,
You just leave the stone end of the dop stick underwater and it will peel off. Dont force it if you want to make sure the stone is not damaged.
I would never use superglue on the face of a stone once it is cut.

How about a hot glue gun?

We have covered that one in the dopping playlist already and I don't recommend it. The stronger stuff has great hold but the heat can damage a sensitive opal.
