This year I'm gonna find an opal in some river.

I’m excited for my cabbing and jewelry making skills to really progress this year.

My goal this year is to start carving/cutting stones and gemstones I've gone rockhounding for and make them into jewelry. Excited to create something from start to finish. At some point I might try my luck at gold panning.

these are some beautiful pieces Roy! My plans for this year is finishing my Master's degree and then traveling to some places I've never been to before. When it comes to opal I've started getting into cutting some lightning ridge material that I've been scared of before. Let's see if I can get a good gem out of one of my roughs ;)

My plans for 2025 are getting my 3 year old under control and into preschool this fall. Also I plan to win the Lottery

My plans this year are to create some epic jewelry as I just bought a slant cabber from hitech diamond. But most importantly this year, my wife and I are having a baby very soon! I hope all is well and starts cooling off for you over there.

I’ve just joined my local lapidary and gem club so I hope to learn heaps, on top of what Ive learned here and via black opal direct. I’ll always use my Ozito and ryobi but can’t wait to be able to trim up quickly at the club and to get on their silversmithing class. Love ya channel! Stay cool 😎

I got an apprenticeship to learn Goldsmithing so I am learning that this year and I’m hoping to bring exciting gemstones (like fancy opals) to his store.

I am currently swapping out my old skewer dop sticks for some nail gel covered lollipop sticks. I hope that from now on I can glue the opals on with nail gel that hardens in UV light, since I have to use that to protect my very vulnerable natural nails, anyways. If fewer of my opals can jump around my work table and general area, so I can spend less time moving extremely carefully to not roll my chair over any missing opals, it will be a win! But my main goal has to be learning to work with metal to actually set my finished opals for sale. I am watching so many videos and visiting so many websites to figure out what should be bought first, and where to get it from. Trying to budget all that equipment is hard when I only have about 20 worthwhile pieces of rough and half-worked rocks left to fiddle with, so I absolutely must buy a couple of new number 5 roughs from Riley Gunn! Per month. Three per month on average, is that fair? Decisions, decisions...

To get a Dremel and start on my opals

I'm a nurse for my main job and this is a hobby for me but I've started in the last month with a dremel and your beginner kit! I'm so hooked, I want to learn to cut until I can produce something stunning! I'm just about to try my first actual stone cut after putting 50+ hours into practice potch and more than that in videos! So glad I found u and other creators , thank you for sharing your passion & skills with us!

My goal for this year is to start trying to sell my Opal more consistently. Be it with a Facebook page/shop, maybe etsy, maybe get a tik tok profile going for it too. I managed to achieve last years goal and already sold my first few pieces last year and even did a private commission on a stunning piece of $1.5k rough. So the goal is to get enough finished pieces ready by say end of Q2 2025, to be able to open up selling with a bit of stock so that I'm not starting a page with just a handful of pieces. I'm also keen on trying to do Opal cufflinks as I haven't found any I like out there, so interested to see what you do with that so I can copy it :) Keep up the great work as always Roy, you're a legend.

Working on getting better at cutting boulder opal/ Yowah nut opal on my home made cabber. Getting better at faceting too, getting my Halls machine soon.

Im not saying down below, Im still holding out to find opal lovers to buy claims not carpet baggers or fast buck fools. Once with a new tornado bait to live in, polish my finds and define the museum collection for the inheritors. I mean id like to sell the snake head fossil opal for my price.

I've owned a cabbing machine for three years now, it's time I got it to pay for itself. I do need to work on some basic jewelers skills, so I'm really excited to see that series of videos. Ultimately, I'd like to start selling opal jewelry on Etsy and if that does well, start my own website and sell directly. Unfortunately I'm sure there are a lot of people with that plan, and only so much demand for opal. But if it pays better than my day job (and that won't take a lot), then I'd like to turn it into a full time gig.

2025 involved silversmithing and I’m going to try inlay in rocks and wood, maybe petrified wood. Something really different.

Yay! First giveaway. Wearing those gloves in that heat I’m sure was not fun. Though I did enjoy seeing some of the opals you cut and the others in your collection. My first priority this year is to my parents and their needs. However I would like to get their farm productive again. My first task is to clear out the garden area and start planting. Hopefully starting this early will give me a better chance of being successful. Maybe I can turn my brown thumb green 😂

For me it's more caring for my grandmother during the days (down to just one grandparent left now unfortunately) and hoping to get some carvings done during the night. I still can't wait for your resin bits to be available, I've bought some Nova points from you in the past and another option to go alongside the sandpaper rolls would be very nice to try.

Hiya mate! Wowzers, those are some beautiful opals!!! I'm just getting started into lapidary and find it rewarding to bring the best out of a piece. I plan to expand and strengthen my skills as I try to complete my "rock the globe" jewelry collection( goal to craft rocks into a pieces of jewelry from every country/ state /province in the globe. I know it might take a few years, and I'm up for the challenge! Hopefully, some day, my granddaughters will pass them on to their granddaughters. My legacy, if you will. Practice my carving on any rock is my goal for this year.

It's been almost 12 months since I developed a real interest in opals and then jewellery. I plan to build on my existing skills, especially with the jewellery side of things. Shout out to the Nunawading and Disrict Lapidary Club in Melbourne. They're an awesome group of very helpful and skilled people, with a phenomenal setup at our club rooms. I hope your year is really interesting Roy and you achieve at least some of your own goals. Keep up the informative videos.

My plan is to take good care of myself and see where that takes me.

Hey Roy, im like you,ive recently started silversmithing and I really love it. Ive done a couple of rings and pendants. My goal is to get alot better at it and to start using some of the nicer opal i have cut in the settings.

I love watching and learning from you. My wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year. I use opal cutting as a brief escape. We are hoping to be able to do a cruise to the USA in a few months to be able to see her 5 boys and grandchildren for the last time.

Hey Roy this year I hope to start my own group and begin selling opal as a wholesaler. Got my wheels and have been cutting like a demon results are just so much better than the old trusty Dremel 🌈👊🔥👍

I started with buying some rough from SK and his wife, what 3 years now.

Taking everything I've collected, cut and polished, and start silversmithing with it.

My plan and goal for this year is to learn as much as I can about opal cutting and setting. I only started dabbling in opal cutting late last year (using a dremel set up) and the Roy's rocks videos have been a wealth of knowledge for me. I hope with even more knowledge and practice, I will be able to start producing better cut/carved stones that I can set into my own hand made jewellery.

I’m a disabled/retired pastor of 25 years and had a stroke in ‘22, muscle disease, and recovering from major back surgery. My plans for this year is to recover through physical therapy, continue learning more and more about jewelry making, and get more tools for cutting and polishing. I’ve started making jewelry as gifts but want to try to make a business out of it as I learn more. Hopefully I can win to make something amazing out of a beautiful opal.

This year I plan to get going on learning to make some settings for the opals I have been cutting…..also this morning it was -4 Fahrenheit here, I think I’d rather be roasting 😂
