YAY for baby primate's survival!!!!!! Any time a pregnancy emergency happens and the baby is saved, it's a GOOD DAY!!!! I hope mommy is doing just as well.
Mum just underwent a C-Section. That is serious surgery, and unlike a human a gorilla mum won't understand that she can't move around like normal with her infant, so they needed to keep them separate until mum was well enough to care for baby on her own.
Its so interesting how close to human they are, at first glimpse the infant looked human!! Ilove these creatures, they're so loving when appropriately cared for. I know in certain places they have to be captured to save their species ugh it's still heart breaking for their day to day lives.

I don't think so. The cure for (life-threatening) preeclampsia is delivery of the baby. ;-) She was, however, healing from a caesarean section (surgery).
No, her mother is fine! I saw them last year at Bristol Zoo. The baby is now a toddler and integrated into the group. Unfortunately the mother didn't show much interest in raising her but one of the juvenile females carries her around and plays with her. They have a very nice environment.
