  • This 90s cube can tell you the time in a pleasant female voice on demand or on the hour. It also has a talking alarm. I have had this clock since 1996 and it is one of my favorites.

    I have the same model black with black sides. Got it in early 80s brand nee at radio shack. Great alarm guess almost 40 years old now. Batteries seem to last forever same as alarm. 👍

    Someone on RUclips had posted a video of a clock similar to mine with that voice chip. I'd never heard it before that video, but hearing you mention the EL-640 brings back old memories. I really wish I had one. I think they went out of production before I left elementary school.

    Never had one myself, but knew an aweful lot of people who did. A great clock!

    love it. I have a 70's leaf clock. The time is shown in roladex style. Each minute it flips to display the next. Made by LLoyds.

    There's a class that I'm looking to sell that looks just like that has the same button layout on the bottom but it has a triangle shape button and it's actually made by ricin it's called a super cute Clark and it has an audible day announcement as well as a countdown timer and it talks in a man's voice with a slight New York accent so it talks like a New Yorker a little bit

    My physical therapist secretary had that clock that you're showing and I got to get in contact with him because I want to know what he did with it and because I was thinking about taking it since he unfortunately I was going to tell him I would like it since he unfortunately passed away but there's actually another clock that they still make that has the same white button layout but it has a try

    That's very nice. I've seen one that sounds like the Sharp talking calculator.

      I've seen that one on RUclips. I also used the Sharp EL-640 talking calculator in elementary school. :)

    Does this thing loose time as well as the rnib clock?

    I was born in 91 and these were a bit less common as I was in elementary school in the late 90s and early 2000s. However, I do remember that my dorm at the school for the blind I attended from 5th grade on had one. I loved messing around with putting it in military time as a joke.
    As a kid, I had one with an analog face and colorful design, black body, and a big button on top. I also had one that talked and had analog AND digital readouts.
    When I was little, I was kind of obsessed with clocks. LOL!

      Jade Scribbler Glad to meet a fellow enthusiast. Was it the teardrop design you had? I never bought one of them.

    • @MagicalAuroraDream
      @MagicalAuroraDream 6 лет назад

      rml695 Yes, it was of the teardrop design. It always sounded so darn cheerful. XD I also had a black, square, digital talking watch with the same voice.
      With the technology now, I've not used a talking clock in several years. However, I still have my Atomic model I got about 10 years ago which is silver with the curved wood pannel type designs on the sides. I don't use it much but it still works last time I checked. That one was my favorite.
      Don't know why I randomly thought of talking clocks tonight but it's made for some good nostalgia at any rate. (sigh) The memories! Annoying sighted and blind alike with my constant time checking. LOL!

    • @rml695
      @rml695  6 лет назад

      Jade Scribbler me too. LOL I also always check my atomic talking watches to make sure "USA Time updated" LOL Yer cool :)

    • @MagicalAuroraDream
      @MagicalAuroraDream 6 лет назад +1

      rml695 Thanks! I used to think the concept of an atomic clock that was actually able to get a signal from across the country was so awesome. It still is, really. However, the drawback to that clock is that, even on high volume, the alarm was WAY too quiet. I tend to be a bit of a heavy sleeper and missing my alarm got me in a lot of pickles as a teen if not from house parents at school than the irritation of having to rush to get to school on time when I became a day student.
      I also remember the pyramid clock which one of the teachers had in her classroom. One time, I won a really cool talking clock in a bingo game at school. It was rectangular with 4 buttons but no screen. I STILL regret giving it away to a totally blind dorm-mate because for some reason the lack of a screen irked me and I already had a couple clocks at that point. The one I gave away was way nicer, though. (sigh)
      As an adult, I tend to have a similar love of technology as I did for clocks as a kid. I have an Apple watch which is pretty cool.
      I also have a Braille watch that I've had since 2000. It needs a new battery, though, but I used to use it all the time.
      Apologies for the rambling but I'm on a major nostalgia trip for some reason.

    I might be wrong, but I think you have another cube clock. I think that because when you started another video (I don’t know which one) I Heard a clock saying 7:00 PM and that sounds very much like an rnib cube clock.

    Sometimes you'll see EL-640's on eBay, but they don't seem to be common and they can be a bit expensive, this surprises me because they were so common and popular in the early 90s, the blind school I went to had scads and scads of them, I can do a very good imitation of the EL-640's voice. What does the alarm on your clock sound like when it rings? I'm pretty sure Tandy Australia sold these clocks, I think I played with one years ago

  • @CupofCloud
    @CupofCloud 11 лет назад

    wow on ebay one is bidding at 10.50 one you can purchase for 20 and then they have one for 85 dollars or best offer.
    I can't say I remember seeing them growing up but I m almost sure I've heard the same voice tell the time.

  • @ablindguy

    May I ask, what does the hourly announcement sounds like? I mean, do you hear a beep and the time, I also heard another fox clock with three beeps, the time, and another beep. What does it sound like?

    • @rml695
      @rml695  4 года назад

      killerzomby 888 With these cubes, it’s just a beep and the time.

    in a reply to one of my comments, you said that you have a Clock similar to this one. Is that you’re rnib cube clock? Or is that another clock that you didn’t review.

      You will have to look around on eBay then, as this one isn't made anymore. However, they have a more modern version that doesn't even have a display that is produced by RNIB, if you want a cube that is still being made.

    I don’t want to be rude or so, but the voice sounds like Microsoft ana in my opinion. By the way, do you still use that clock? If so, where do you use it?
