So, I worked as an electrician in Japan, and the absolute most terriyfing thing I've seen was a ~70 year old improvised bain-marie thrown together by the carpenters. So, the gig was a simple renovation on a house that was a bit past its prime, however one of the things discovered in the course of the inspection was that mice had chewed off a lot of the insulation on the electrical wiring and built a nest in the breaker box, resulting in a fire hazard. So, at about 6pm after all our other work at the previous jobsite was done, we rushed over there, cut the power and wrapped the whole thing in electrical tape and wrote "do not use," on it. The next day, we went there to find that the carpenters had turned the power back on, ripped out a length of wire from a demolished section of wall, and ran that from the breaker through the rafters to an improvised bain-marie consisting of the world's most dented, rusted out, tarnished and cig ash stained bucket, with a 5$ made in china amazon heating element precariously dangling in the water. Because in any country, if the weather is -5c, people will gladly risk death for a warm can of coffee at 5am.
