Except it's nonsense. Since well before the "summer of love" in 2020, but most definitely after that, the info is everywhere that you need you need to comply with the orders of the officers. It's everywhere about exactly how to proceed. Unless he lives under a rock, it's unavoidable. And as for the BS that he's never been arrested and doesn't understand how things work? Puh-lease! I've never been arrested and I know what to do. And that was a lie anyway. He HAS been arrested before and has been blowing off his court appearances. The judge should have, at the very least, raised his bond and tossed him in jail unless or until he comes up with the new amount.

We were told a lot of things as kids. In some cases, it's a perfect excuse. That's why states allow a grace period for citizens to catch up, usually 30-60 days.
Saw a guy almost get arrested for not having his signature on his registration. It was around March, and the law was passed that January. Unfortunately, it was not announced or advertised.
To your point, Penn V Mimms has been around since the 70s so that grace period has definitely passed.

      Comment above is spot on.
While a lot of her dialogue is worthless drivel, she does bring up decent enough points to be in consideration. As well, judging by the DA summary, he only resisted leaving the vehicle and tensed momentarily. They jump from him "pulling his arm away," to essentially nothing after being DETAINED. And the use of the word detained is actually extremely important in this case. That, instead of arrest, can make a huge difference in how this plays out further down the line. It seems as though the ONLY charge in this instance is resisting. If that is correct, then he has a more broad legal defense to have the case dismissed.
She was jumping to get no probable cause to have it dismissed there, but overall wanted at least the bond reinstated. She appealed to Judge Fleischer's willingness to hear out an argument. She did wonderful in that respect.

Why can't everyone use that excuse then? MOST people that haven't broken the law don't know how all this works. The one part that doesn't make sense about their excuse is that the defendant KNOWS what he was doing wrong, from licence plate, no DL, to failing to appear to court despite his bond...yet acted like he didn't know anything

If you don't follow a lawful order, you will regret it. Don't be a dumbass. Follow orders, if you have a problem, save it for court.

Saw the style of dress and behaviour of the defense attorney and just knew the race card would be played at some point. It was disappointing to be proven correct. It is a disservice to this judge and even to her client to try to bring race into the case.

Pushover judge. He missed two court dates and he gets to just stay out of jail? Never give sovcits an inch. Punish them to the full extent of the law. Don’t give him a break for being black. That’s no different than giving a rich white boy a break because he “comes from a good family.”
