I've often quite admired their approach in the main and they've generally been a pretty solid well organised side and as a Boro fan they're a team I always look at as tough game, however I do see your point too where it does feel like lack of investment in the squad does look like they are at risk of stagnating and finding themselves in trouble at the wrong end of the table, I hope not as I have admired them as a club for a while now and they have a good bunch of fans who deserve some success.
As a Preston fan, everything said here is bang on. 'They just don't do it very well' could be applied to every single aspect of the club but primarily it's recruiting that's killed us. Replace Ridsdale with a young, senior recruitment guy from a decent club and we could be fine but seemingly Ridsdale is there til he actually dies.
I've never wanted to like a video less, but it's true, it's incredibly boring being a Preston fan. I'd have liked this video to have delved a little deeper in to the ownership and running of the club which is the key issue, but the sentiment is correct.
I read your headline and angrily thought I'll tell this geezer a thing or two about the mighty Preston N E but as I watched and listened realised all your comments are spot on l! but I'll still be on this Saturday cheering loudly like we've scored if we manage to get a corner, but I like Heckingbottom and hope we back him in January window, I've subscribed 😎
Your quite right, pne are boring,we are the steady Eddie's of football, yes it's great being in the championship, a fantastic league to be in,but our owners are more than happy to stay there and never be in ridiculous amounts of debt, yes that's a good thing and a well run football club, but as fans we are bored stiff with having no ambition. But like proper fans we'll support them ever more, and never become pot hunting plastics who support utd, lpool, city etc and not from that area, those people those traitors are the REAL BORING PEOPLE.
Well said sir. i am a firm believer in when you first get into football, you see what the local club is and that is the club that , chooses you as it's supporter, and that never changes. Or at least it was with me and Aston Villa [ living in Aston at the time].
Hit the nail on the head, sums up the club perfectly! Riddler trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes every season. Not good enough and quite rightly saying we are going backwards and maybe this is the season we don't recover from a bad start!
@ Disagree Bolton , Charlton, Huddersfield and Bradford in league 2 all probably got a bigger fan base …oh yes don’t forget Birmingham the greatest team the world has ever seen. Best of luck
The lack of forward planning in transfer strategy and a category 3 academy is what has set us apart from the other frugal clubs who have climbed their way up the leagues. A period of stagnation in the championship has been boring for sure, but we have seen plenty clubs teeter on the brink of existence from throwing the kitchen sink at promotion and many others languish in the leagues below which are notoriously hard to clamber out from. If North End can continue to remain in the division then the next logical step is to give the dinosaur Peter Ridsdale his sending off party and encourage a sporting philosophy that will see the club increase revenues and therefore expenditure.
As a Northender myself - harsh, but true. We just need to get lucky with a striker in form for a whole season! I'll take mid-table over an exciting relegation, mind...
Interesting points but as you have pointed out this is a stable club punching above. I always say we'll finish 10th. We have a lovely stadium and great history and maybe things will click. But I would hate a foreign owner and the artificial route to success.
I love your assessment of the whole roster, in FIFA career mode they are all 65-75 rated players, with not a single player that sticks out other than Whiteman, who is nowhere near his FIFA rating IRL. There is something admirable about just being a mid-table team year after year, just stuck in mediocrity.
This lad has a problem seeing quality. It is plainly obvious that Preston North End will be in the Premier League next year. Come On The North End. We are not called The Invincible for nothing.
There are a few other clubs drifting around in this Division - as well as Bristol City you can add Stoke, Cardiff and Swansea. At least the latter two have been in the Premier League recently. Millwall and QPR are a bit similar as well but Millwall look as if they could reach the play-offs some time while QPR just seem to be waiting for the trap door to open. The same could have been said for Birmingham but now they seem revitalised in League 1.
It is very frustrating being a north ender... football is now a business the more you speculate, the more you'll accumulate... when we won back to back in 1800 and something we did it because we paid and bought professional players while others were fielding postmen, butchers, and engineers. But these day the board want to play it safe... absolutely no ambition, no desire, no business acumen, and certainly no balls.
Watched them play Blackburn a few weeks ago and it’s probably one of the worst champ games I’ve ever seen. Then I watched them put the reserves out against Arsenal in the cup and get hammered 0-3, with the excuse being made ‘well we’ve got a big game against Bristol at the weekend coming up’ and then they lost that 1-3! Just showed a real lack of ambition on their part, they’re not going to make the play offs this season as they’re not good enough IMO, but they could at least have tried to make a fist of it against Arsenal and give their fans something to cheer but they decided against doing that and effectively forfeited the game!
I visited Preston and went to watch the Carabao Cup game vs Fullham..I decided that day to choose PNE as the team I would support. My mother in law from Longton laughed at me when I told her, I'm hoping the team can improve..Ahh well I've chosen now and will support them even if they get relegated and hope one day I can watch them again at Deepdale in the Prem..A wild dream perhaps but stranger things have happened.
For all the good this Hecky did at SUFC he got us playing sideways and backwards passing football and he is a very good YES MAN that club Chairman love
Meant to say PNE original Champions and double [ league and cup winners, in an undefeated season ], the proper invincibles. If you look back at the records Arsenal though never have got promoted [ Notts County finished 2nd, and there were no play offs that season , Arsenal finished 5th that season so all their top flight achieivments are really invalid as they got promoted on dubious grounds!
Owners have enough money to keep the club running but that’s it, I believe that was mentioned in a club statement. I also think we are open to sell the club but only to the correct buyers which is a gamble so probably won’t be done anytime soon. Either way UTW
I quite enjoy being a fan. But I tell you it does feel like 10-14th is always where we are gonna be... I mean I think we probably have one of the lowest wage bills it's crazy that we seem to over perform that consistently somehow. Would love to go on a cup run or something
As a Preston fan, ignore Preston fans about our owners,. if you actually delve into our finances you actually start realise how well in a lot of way our club is run, i actually think Heckingbottom is an excellent appointment, the main problem is we are a club that averages 14-15k attendances and before the early bird they started offering it was closer to 12 or 13 we can't afford to spend big without breaching FFP, I do believe the owners and Risdale have ambition but they aren't going to sacrifice the sustainability and future on the club for the sake of it which i respect. Risdale more then anyone understands the consequences overspending and considering things are even worse now for EFL club he know with the wealth disparity amongs clubs in England with parachute payments etc What i will say is i think we lack a proper and clear transfer strategy due to our lack of funds and somewhere we can most certainly look to improve, but overall our owners are good and we are ambitious as we can be without risking everything for the chance of making into the Premier League
The owners and Ridsdale are the problem. I'm grateful for Hemmings investment and keeping us afloat, but given we have one of the smallest budgets in the league, we've got to be 10 x better than the other clubs to make it work. Currently it's not working - no youth strategy, no transfer strategy. Heck even our stadium only gets a paint job once the local rag puts an article out about it and puts the pressure on. We need new direction at the top if anything's ever going to change. I'd start with putting the club up for sale at a realistic price (not the £35/30m they want) and sacking Peter Ridsdale and replacing him with someone with a plan.
Mad view point that. The lack of revenue and FFP issues come from horrific mistakes we've made over 10 years of transfer dealing. If Ridsdale had bought some quality and youth in we wouldn't have issues. The signings highlighted here are massive issues. Osmajic and Okkels way too old to help the issue.
@@ThriftyTones Osmajic is a decent signing imo and will come good, but it's definitely signings like Okkels, Bayliss, Harrop and wasted money on league 1 plodders as to why we are where we are. That one relying on 2-3 quality Prem loan signings a year to keep us up!
@@Therealhobbit_ again, he's old though. Literally no chance of getting a 7-8m bid on Osmajic. I actually think Bayliss was incredibly badly managed. Any young investment like that needs a loan or first team football. He missed so much football at a crucial time in his development when he should have been loaned back to Cov where he had such a rep
The owners have always held them back no ambition and won't back the manager i have said that for years club needs some investment 100% also a Preston fan
Can't disagree with anything you've said there unfortunately. Someone once told me were the everton of the championship and I agreed with that aswell. Never much going on with us
Well, didn't impress us much at your place. Let's see how it goes at "boring' deepdale. Let's hope we win 1-0 after a first minute goal them park the bus for 89+ mins and say thanks for 4 points. Sorry for being boring though. We'll come in Christmas hats next year.
Boring ? the original invincibles unbeaten cup and cup winners of the original first league season. Boring? Record recorded English score PNE 22 Hyde 0. They may not be that adventurous now . but they can [as alluded to] deliver a bite!
Literally proving why we're boring with that comment, we've done nothing of note for decades, or in the case of the examples you've used, over 100 years.
But the Hemmings family could increase what they put in under FFP with some more creative commercial approaches which would raise the FFP ceiling, but they don't because as this video alludes to, they're satisfied with mediocrity. (A new director at the helm would make a big difference too)
So negative. Love your work but I would have appreciated more an exploration as to why the lack of ambition or something more in depth instead of just stating superficial facts and going for the easy label. All teams have their history, a fan base and peculiarities making them unique. Personally I prefer mid table every year rather than be relegated and promoted constantly. Was a video needed if all is meh and 6 out of 10? 🤣

One glaring omission from the video. The blame lies entirely with Peter Ridsdale. Get him out and PNE will progress.
Can’t imagine the club makes any money or anyone even wants to buy it. You’d have to spend a load of money with no guarantees of promotion
A lot of bigger clubs in league 1 would happily swap places. The current owners probably chuck in £7 million each year. Would you do that?
'A lot'???...Birmingham are the only 'bigger club' than Preston in League one and they put them to shame on past glories.
@ Disagree Bolton , Charlton, Huddersfield and Bradford in league 2 all probably got a bigger fan base …oh yes don’t forget Birmingham the greatest team the world has ever seen. Best of luck
