I can’t speak from authority, but I can from experience - when you list as unlisted or scheduled: RUclips seems to begin the process of indexing, analyzing, and “preparing” the video. Recently, I had a video that was Public, and then I put it to unlisted because I needed to review some elements, then I put it back to Public. This KILLED the video for 2 days. It seems to have made it “hiccup” in the algorithm. Scheduled is 100% the solution (in my opinion) - because it allows for the “prep” to take place prior to launch. The one area that challenges this is if you need a third-party to review the video prior to release. (Sponsor, Guest, etc). I’m actually thinking that I’m going to change to off-platform review to use scheduling only on RUclips.
Great video. Clarification... RUclips starts the clock when a video is set to public. They don't care how long it sits as private. Manually switching to public, or using Scheduling are exactly the same. Also, you cannot comment on private videos, so for example, you cannot add a pinned comment.
Another fantastic video Rob. I usually upload videos on Private until I have set up the title, description, tags, end screens & cards then it's changed using the schedule tab to go public on a scheduled date. Thanks 👍 for sharing this video and information. Love 🥰 the video and love ❤Rob.
Great explanation. Most of the time I'm setting videos to Scheduled and then I will play them back to check the description, thumbnail, etc. I was a bit confused about the Unlisted and Private options, but your explanation was very clear.
my strategy: - Uploading Private - Do all the work (Description, Keywords, Playlist...) - Wait until all resolutions are finished, all copyright checks are done, Auto Subtitels are done.. - Select as "Members only" and make a scheduling for public let's see if the plan works out this year
Thank you for helping people uploading videos. However, going back and forth between different options may confuse not only the person uploading the video, but also the algorithm. Since you ultimately want your video go public, why not take the time and the effort to create a final product, and then upload and make it public.??? And since you can edit the video if absolutely needed, why not make it public to start with??? If I'm wrong, please correct me. Thank you.
The editing you can do to the video once you've uploaded it is very basic... there are a lot of things you can't do. It cannot replace video editing software. Yes, you could get everything completed ahead of time of you like, but it's still fairly common practice to schedule videos for a later date/time :)
I've been adding a comment while the video is unlisted, then setting back to private, and scheduling. Is this bad? The reason I do this is my video will get published while I'm sleeping, so I'd rather have my comment in place when it goes public....
Rob I have a question I also sent you a super chat...I am a former addict also a DJ ..I'm down to those two Niches ...which one do you think would build a good community and followers thank you and if you can help please comment
Hello and thanks for the question (and super chat!). The way I see it, everyone has an audience waiting to be discovered, especially if you have information that people are looking for. If you can help others through your own life experiences, then there's value in that. If you were an addict and found a way through it, then there are absolutely people out there who could benefit from your knowledge and advice. Share your stories (if you feel comfortable) as they may help others. If you approach your channel that way, then you will have success. Just remember... focus on other people and try to help them. Focus less on your own self. Does that make sense? I wish you the best of luck! :-)
Great content as usual. One question, though, why wouldn't you mirrow your webcam so that you are looking to the left instead of looking to the right? Now It appears that you are looking away from what you are showing.
Thanks Rob! What if you post a video when you first start a channel, but it doesn’t get many views. Then, a year later after having acquired somewhat of an audience, can you delete the original video and repost it as new?
I would not recommend doing this. RUclips MIGHT view this as trying to game the platform. Rather, create an updated version, even if your re-edit the video, and upload this.
I posted 3 video's 11 years ago to show family, listed as public. I kinda" forgot about them. One video after all these years has thousands of hours of viewing. If I open a new channel and put that one in it will it get recognized as a "new" listing and help build a new channel? I could update it and edit it to make it more relevant for today. Or should I just try to work towards getting my old channel monetized by making new content. I'm an old veteran with many interests and I would like to make enough to cover my dental and vision which medicare and the va won't cover for me. Yes I tried insurance but it takes a long time to get more than a cleaning and I had issues. I put the dental on a credit card out of necessity but would like to make enough to cover that card. Thanks.
You cannot apply the stats (views, watch hours, etc) that a video gained on your old channel to a new channel, no. Keep in mind also that to be monetized your channel needs 4,000 watch hours in the last 365 days... so any watch hours that video got over a year ago wouldn't count anyways, even on the old channel. Deciding whether or not to start a new channel depends mostly on whether or not your new content will be targeted to the exact same demographic/audience your old content targeted. If it's the same, then you can just start posting to the old channel again... otherwise, start a new one :-) Best of luck!
The last time I scheduled a video to go public at a specific time It got screwed up. I checked at the scheduled time from my phone and it said video was public so I went about my day. An hour plus later I sat down to have lunch and view my video from my personal account and the video listed on the home page, but when I clicked it it said "this video is private". I then checked from the computer to the same effect. When I logged back in as SchmokesShop, the video said it was public on the content list. I was able to fix the issue by making the video PRIVATE manually, then Public, but the damage to impressions was already done due to ZERO watch time on clicks to a video that came up private. I now manually post videos due to fear of a repeat of this behavior. Anyone else ever experienced this?!
That sounds super frustrating! This issue might stem from a sync delay between RUclips’s servers and your account settings, which can occasionally happen. Your fix (switching it to private and back to public) is a solid workaround. To avoid this in the future, try refreshing the video’s visibility on both desktop and mobile after it’s scheduled to go live, or experiment with scheduling a few test videos to see if it’s a consistent issue. I hope this helps!
I understood it was taken offline briefly (due to it being owned by the owners of TikTok) but that it was made available again. I think it's working again so you might want to check :) Other apps you could consider are iMovie, Davinci Resolve, Camtasia and Filmora.
Oh. I kinda figured. I use the tube as storage. This is a huge matter. That you for confirming this.

Thanks, Rob. I agree... schedule it, one-and-done, no worries, all automated. Low stress. Makes a happy RUclipsr 😊
Absolutely :)

Awesome! Thanks for explaining it. Very helpful Rob!! Great video!!
Thanks for watching :-)
Helpful! I’ve been so confused about this.

That's a good strategy, especially if you want your pinned comment to be there as soon as the video goes public :-)
Thanks for the helpful info. Do channel subscribers get a notification if you post something "Unlisted"?
No they don't... they'll only be notified once your video is public AND they've chosen to "click the bell icon" to get notifications :)

Thank you! Helpful video. I started YT channel and still learning
Great explainer video ;-)
Glad you liked it! :-)
The playlist makes sense because I watched an 'unlisted' video on a channel without having a link for it 🤔
Great content as usual.

Good question! Perhaps I should have... I've mirrored myself in the past for just this reason... but I guess I forgot to in this case :-)
@RobtheMaritimer thank you for reading my comment and considering my suggestion 🙂
How helpful was this?? VERY. TY!
My pleasure :-)
Always unlisted till it’s fully ready 👍
Or Private ;-)

@ Good advice. Thank you.
I agree with the commenter above... just keep the original video in place and make another/updated version of it :-)
@@RobtheMaritimer thanks!
@ Thanks!
Rob, can you rearrange your playlist later?
Yes, absolutely... you can do that from within RUclips Studio :-)

I’m trying to use CapCut this morning and it is saying it is not available in USA. What happened? Which out app is similar?
It's a tiktok product.
ByteDance is the parent company of tiktok and capcut.
I understood it was taken offline briefly (due to it being owned by the owners of TikTok) but that it was made available again. I think it's working again so you might want to check :)
