  • Coming to you from sunny Sedona, Arizona. Soldier's Pass trail is one of the more popular trails in Sedona. There are three points of interest on this route. We'll first go by the Devil's Kitchen sink hole, then the 7 Sacred Pools, and ending at the caves. Aside from these features, there are stunning views of the surrounding red rock formations and decent shade coverage. It's easy to see why it's such a popular hike. The trail is mostly flat for the majority until getting to the section that leads up to the caves. From that point on it's a pretty steady incline that will give you a good challenge, especially when considering Sedona's elevation compared to San Diego. Please be patient with this recording, I didn't hike this trail before the run and was unfamiliar with the route. I got off trail a couple times so forgive the pauses and segments where I'm trying to reorient myself. Enjoy!

    Tip:
If you decide to go in person, I would highly recommend getting to the trailhead early. There is a small 15-20 car parking lot that opens at 8 am and fills up quick. It was full when I arrived at 9am. If the lot is full, the surrounding neighborhood is not friendly to hikers. There are no parking signs and cones in front of every house. I wouldn't recommend chancing it because I saw a number of police cars actively monitoring the area. You'll need to drive about 1 mile away and park at Posse Ground Park which is just beyond a dog park. I did see an enterprising individual that was shuttling hikers back and forth from the park to the trailhead in their minivan. Not sure if there is a schedule or how much it costs but maybe you'll get lucky and catch them at the right time. Aside from tacking on 2 extra miles to your hike, this parking situation is rather annoying as there are ample shoulders on the roadside to allow hikers to park closer. There is also no sidewalks along the road so it might feel a little unsafe. There is the Sunrise trail that parallels the road for about half the distance that you can connect to at the dog park.

Yeah, Sedona is a beautiful place with tons of great hikes. Only wish I had more time to get a few more in. It'd be a great place for your channel.
