    Her being a Mezzo-Soprano really surprises me. I can get it based on what she would be classified as in a Choir based on the range she has displayed but in Vocal Fach, it's hard to imagine her singing Mezzo-Soprano roles due to the brightness & weight of her voice. This also applies to her head voice plus compared to other Mezzo-Sopranos, her lower register isn't as strong.
    Nonetheless, she is underappreciated; thanks for making this series!

    • @KajiVocals
      @KajiVocals 4 года назад +7

      She is beginning to sing more and more soprano roles nowadays (recently was in Annie and sang a Julie Andrews-y singing role). I recently finished going through her discography and she has done some very easy F#5s (belt) before but she’s mostly a midrange belter due to her repertoire but she can definitely sing higher well when she wants. She is basically a traditional belty theatre soprano.

    • @GarageStudio7
      @GarageStudio7 4 года назад +2

      @@KajiVocals I completely agree with you! I was quite surprised that many regard her as a Mezzo-Soprano. I wonder if it stems from her own statement about what she regards herself as mobile.twitter.com/msleasalonga/status/368763362466738176?lang=en

    • @kingofmeereen
      @kingofmeereen 4 года назад +5

      I think it’s less to do with how bright or dark her voice is but rather where her voice finds its “ring”, and I think midbelting is her forte. She naturally thins out around D5 and above, and even though she’s supporting amazingly, you can tell her voice itself is not well suited to go high like a soprano. Also, her voice is starting to sound more solid and belty recently. Like beefier? And I feel like this happens more for mezzos than sopranos. Like isn’t it a thing that mezzos reach their prime much later than sopranos who peak younger and then sort of declines from there? I swear I read something along those lines.

    • @KajiVocals
      @KajiVocals 4 года назад +3

      KingofMeereen All you said are things that happen naturally in a soprano voice. Mezzos also have way richer voices (Melonie Daniels says hi).

    • @kingofmeereen
      @kingofmeereen 4 года назад +2

      Kaji that’s not true necessarily true that all that happens naturally to a soprano. You can honestly tell Lea’s only really able to belt higher than D5 because of her technique. She has no ease up there and she’s not comfortable going up there. Her “money notes” are midbelts. I mean, young Beyonce also has a very bright tone and light mix. Doesn’t mean she’s a soprano. Her voice wasn’t really that rich either. It got richer as she aged and I would argue that Lea’s voice also gets richer as she ages. You can tell that Bey’s voice naturally shines more in her midbelts. I’m not saying conclusively that Lea’s a mezzo, just that I can see why people consider her as such.

    • @anothernerdontheinternet
      @anothernerdontheinternet 10 месяцев назад

      Hi i sm 3 years late but she is a mezzo, the reason why tou get the impression she is a soprano is her heady mix, but when she belts notes that she can't be that heady in she definitely sounds like a mezzo, listen to those f4s and g4s here, that is not a soprano belting, they sound a lot more powerful and heavier than a soprano's, above these notes she becomes a lot headier (not a rare thing for musical theatre female performers). But when you listen to her low notes... those f3s have nothing soprano-y about them, they are heavy and dark and this is clearly a comfortable area of her voice. She is a mezzo, just one with a lighter middle and upper register.

    I remember seeing her as a coach in the voice and tried to replicate the weight of her voice and found myself purely using headvoice but masking it I think, I don't rlly understand technique but it doesn't feel like giving chest some ratio so I assume it's masking headvoice.
