    If you are new to voice over ,let me tell you ...you have struck GOLD finding Peter Baker .I started my voice business in 2014 and although I do not occupy the rarefied atmosphere dear Peter does,I do OK enough to be full-time.There are some other well known mentors and they are nice and genuine folk .....BUT Peter outshines them all for one very simple reason ...ATTENTION TO DETAIL ! any platform he appears on exudes PROFESSIONALISM .Peter never cuts corners ! this hard grafting combined with hyper fast response times makes him to some degree a law unto himself (but he's too humble to admit that :) ) it;s also why he is constantly in demand .What's obvious though is he loves what he does ...look no further, he is the one to model and a gentleman .
    Happy New Year Peter to you and your family - Mark in Ireland .

      Hello Mark, sorry i have only just seen this. That is very kind of you to say those nice things. I have had a very good and successful life in media and voiceover, and these RUclips videos and the courses on voiceovermasterclass.com are my way of helping others get into the biz quickly. I wish I knew this stuff back in the 70's, I had to learn the hard way, and there was no internet! Best wishes Peter Baker

    Question about your chain: I keep seeing different chains.
    Mine is bump the volume by 6db, get a noise sample, de-noise, de-Ess, EQ, Compress, Limit (just for safety).
    You lower the volume by 3, then compress, then raise the volume by 3. Why?
    Wouldn't this increase your noise floor volume?
    The reason I bump the sound first, is that the De-Noise picks up the noise better, and the SSS is easier for the De-Esser, and it brings up the quite parts. Then the compressor brings down the loud parts, to give it a more condensed range.
    Just wondering the logic behind compress then raise the volume?

    Peter, thanks for the useful video! When you whack on that much amplification, seemingly without checking the peaking of the result, aren't you worried about clipping?
    I usually finalize files to -3 dB, but I see you pushing it all the way into the red and right to -0 dB. Can you please offer your seasoned perspective?

    • @Voiceovermasterclass
      @Voiceovermasterclass  3 года назад +3

      I always deliver files to clients to -3dB the industry standard, but I use my ears first and of course it depends on the type of recording. Phone prompts and hard sell ads and outdoor announcements all need lots of compression, but you're right, I should watch my clipping more. thanks for pointing it out.

      @@Voiceovermasterclass Thanks, Peter. I'm a beginner at VO, so appreciate the tip about which types of broadcast need more compression.

    Do we only record in Mono please?
    I record in stereo

    • @Voiceovermasterclass
      @Voiceovermasterclass  3 года назад +5

      You only have one mouth! You only need stereo if music is added and that's mostly done at the production company who will mix your voice with everything else. A production company will expect all voiceovers to send mono as it means there won't be any likely phase issues and it's just more professional. It also makes files smaller to send! Best wishes Peter
