Notes: 1- I almost remade this video yet again to point out that they get access to almost all of the multi hit finishers, and that is likely why they have the Cudgel category. Main reason it's impractical is because it's effectively a directly worse version than just using a Damasc Sword unless they have freakishly high mind and use spell slot items to be a weird wizard. Not gonna lie, I'd still rock it for the memes. (Downside is that it's damage potential is locked to mainly vs Dark units.) Sagara Crossbow, though, allows for self loading Slayer/Deathwail multiple times. 2- Grasshewer is notable for being a craftable and renewable top end weapon for the role, in case they die in search of relics. 3- Dragoons can't Instill themselves, but pair excellently with a Vartan or Shaman with their team buffs.
My dragoon - Jeunan, makes an excellent rear-guard. Or more accurately a 'bodyguard' 😄(eh?) ... Considering how avian beasts aggressively try to advance towards your light units, I find it more resourceful to just wait for them to come to me instead. Save RT not moving ahead. Prime and ready, then wait for it... Get 'em! I kinda feel bad for the birds and chickens being sent to their doom by the enemy AI commander thinking they'll receive backup soon, but it will be too late.
In Valeria, when your dad steps out to get some milk from the local farmer, he's probably stepping out in fully armored dragoon gear and a crossbow. And probably dying in Phorampa while he's at it.
Or running into an army of psychopaths who use Body Swap on him for his stats, and then leave him in whatever meat suit they didn’t care for (if not showing him the mercy of death)… You monster.
Important Errata: 1) Dragonslayer does an interesting effect against Dragon Scale. The attack still gets the damage reduction, but the dragonslayer multiplier does NOT apply to the reflected damage. Still not as good as Wound, but surprisingly decent if you needed that slot for something else. 2) Slayer getting the 100% was new to me. Earlygame dragons are a bit inaccurate, so falsestrike could get some work done. I think the important note here is that Dragoons are the core MP-inefficient class. Most classes try to get their job done in one 50-60mp chunk, whether it's killing or disabling. Dragoons want Finishers on top of Slayer/Wound. They also barely have enough max MP for it, even lategame. This also makes them fantastic targets for the MP efficient skills. Spellcharge, Salvation, Instill, Bane all benefit them a lot more than others, as long as you're okay with wasting ~15 MP or something due to overflow. And when you play them AS MP-inefficient classes, that means their job doesn't involve much killing until that MP tank is full. Throw rocks or shoot crates to find cards. Use items to weaken/breach your kill targets. Use the dozen spell charges on your gear while waiting for that MP to tick up. You have to be more patient with them than most other classes, and this time it's not waiting for auto-skills. You really are just setting up for one shot kills or slow poisons, nothing else. Can they use Cursed Cudgel? You could make a good case for it on Dragoons.
Solid points all around, and definitely positions their two handed weapons as a sort of MP boost indirectly. Forgot to mention the dragonslayer reflection bit, supposedly it's because of where it lands in the calculation priority, maybe Rucession could clarify if he's around. I know Instill got a massive glow up in that equation by moving further down in this one.
I didn't know the Slayer skills translated to finishers! I thought it worked the same as Sanguine Assault and didn't apply to finishers That makes them way more useful for me Jeunan is back on the squad! Lol
Yeah, they're meaty. It's why I always have to call nonsense when folks are saying their summoners managed to round 1 up to 4 of them without stat dumping and multiple restarts, despite them having two rounds to run them down.
Dragoons are almost mandatory for PotD and San Bronsa (specifically on maps with their targets of course). The Slayer skills (especially if the bane passives are triggered) are SUPER useful.
They're extremely handy, though it's hilariously intimidating to see a Dragoon with a maxed out Dark Spear run up to a San Bronsa cockatrice with Bane and Slayer....and barely crack 1000. Good ol best buddy TK fixes that, but ouch.
I've been waching all of your KYUR videos since the very beginning, and I'm so thrilled you are getting around to them all. I'm so impressed with the depth of this game and your analysis! Your impressions and testing of the Dragoon have changed my use of them so much since the first Tier List. I also love your Water Vartan - Asmak build! I've decided to incoperate it into a Body Swap build with a Dragoon so I can use the high INT and MND to spellcast and wear other gear besides the Dragonslayer Set to provide more utility.
topic suggestion: what new things would you expand to the pool of classes & creatures/races to tactics ogre? i think its weird there isn't more playable beasts in the game, its just birds, octos, & cyclops (some reason they are beast not umbra lol) i wanted to tame a tiger/lion :( a wolf and elephant would be cool too. (also wish flesh golems could be recruited, but with control golem or master undead? lol)
Mechanically it's already more than most. I think they were going for a big team up at the final part, since each area has a unique collection of beasts. Might be a fun topic to explore.
It absolutely could, I had that in the notes. Unfortunately it's only with the Sagara. The two mace lines are...pretty sub par in their hands. While I will use any excuse to bring my favorite bonk stick, the Damasc Mace basically winds up being the Hard Mode version of the Damasc Sword here.
Fear of chickens🎉😂 so true. I respeced all my dragoons to crossbow beast slayers in San Bronsa and the beast slayer relic crossbow you get there makes a huge difference. Otherwise those endgame chickens are a nightmare and eat lv2 summons for breakfast

Can they use the mp charge cudgels? If they could, they would obviously be nice utility offhands.

Well, at least they're then treated as Brisket, and not Chicken.

@@borjankosarac3645 LMAOOOOOOO chill that’s not my timeline, don’t pin those problems on me!
I fell in love when Jeunan stepped out of a cell and did 1300 damage in a hit to a dragon with 1200 max hp

Oh yeah, they can rock some burst fire bullshit from most of their weapons, too.
7:15 5k hp chicken? Wow endgame monsters are pretty awesome

Oh shoot, that's a really use case for that!
Glad to help however I can, this system is so fun to theory craft for.
It's so weird that Fafnir isn't a part of the dragonslayer set. Would've been so nice.
Definitely an odd one, but same can be said for the Balmung.
Dude did you purposefully put the background battle music of Legend of Dragoon?! 😂
Of course!
My undead 2h crossbow dragoon was disgusting in my latest POTD run. Death to all of the dragons and demon chickens!

Wouldn't cudgel give them the charge ability, so free slayer/finisher spam with a stronger weapon in the main hand and cudgel in off-hand❓
