I guess making this beautiful videos requires a lot more power 😉 We use very little power, just recharging our phones and stuff and that’s about it. Water gets cooked on the gasstove, no point in straightening my hair when I am camping 😂 But, we did install two solarpanels now, not travelled with them so curious to find out how that will work. Glad you got your problem fixed and you can use some of the gorgeous offgrid locations in Norway. You’re absolutely right, it is a must when visiting Norway, or other Scandinavian countries. Really enjoying your vlogs!
We have the previous revision of the Clayton LPS in our T6 conversion, well worth it for being off grid, and working from the van. We went further and spec’ed induction cooking and a microwave. Yes it’s a drain on the battery, so the slight compromise is a using a JetBoil for making a brew - but obvs we can take that out with us too. Really enjoying the edits on the Videos Chris, and thanks for sharing your trip.
We had similar problems with dougalthecampervan and we got a 3rd battery installed that connected the engine battery to the new (let's call it reservoir battery) battery and now all 3 batteries are connected and we can go 3-4 days off grid now without the worry of the fridge draining the batteries. Great video!! Keep up the good work there!!!.
Forget to mention get a quality battery to battery charger, 50amp is enough. This will charge your batteries as you drive, I don't use solar as I never stay in one spot for more than 2 days.
Videos about Norway are always interesting. The way I understood you are there at the moment. Enjoy and save travel. If everything is going well we go in May 2023 on our road trip through Scandinavia and the Balticum (in a GC 600). I see where you are coming from about the leisure battery. To build in a 92 Ah AGM battery was a cheap, but not the best decision from Volkswagen. I agree that self-sufficient camping longer than a day is not possible. Have I said that, from our experience it is just ok if one drives every day. When we bought the GC 600 last year we were aware that there is no inverter installed and that the 230V sockets won't work if not on EHU. But for us this is ok, we won't need it. Water can be easily and cheaply boiled on the cooker, we won't need a hairdryer etc. I contacted Volkswagen Comercial Vehicle in Hannover about this and got a reply, that there might (just might) be an upgrade option available next year. Depending on the solution and the price it might be a dream. Again save journey. Eberhard
Chris, from a professional POV, your videos are pretty awesome. I've torn between the 600 and building my own MWB Crafter/Man. Looking forward to more of these videos, my plan is to head to the artic circle next year.
Thanks mate appreciate it. Personally id build your own. At least then it will be reliable! I have another couple in the works, the next one will be released next sunday.
Nice content….I was waiting and waiting for who helped you! Great that Clayton came to the rescue, will be installing one of their units in my build. So compact and everything in one box. Would love a detailed look at the install. Happy travels 🎯
Guys just soaking up the Stunning scenery with you! nice photography , very interesting to see the mods! I Hope VW are paying attention, and give you some sort of recognition for your honesty!? I am very sure many Grand California owners would like to follow suit 🧐Anyway bring on the next Episode! Bloody love this! Enjoy 😎🍺
VW havent said a single thing and i dont expect them to if im honest. Thank you, theres a few more episodes planned, the next one is done and ready to be uploaded next week then the next couple are more standard vlog style ones. Hopefully people enjoy them.
Hi Chris, great video... I have a GC coming next week and I am out wild camping every weekend around the lakes and Scotland mountain biking... Very interested in the Clayton package you have done and would want to have exactly the same put into my new van... Clayton install as a norm ? Thanks 👍
Hi thanks for the comment. Clayton don’t do installs they done mine more of a proof of concept to prove it can be done though. It wasn’t a huge job and I’m sure most electricians could do it with their kit.
So does the leisure battery not charge whilst you drive? Or is it a case that the leisure battery runs out too quick if you park up and use things, doesn’t just running the engine cure it?
Fountain of knowledge you are! I got your email too thanks so much i will be in touch as we begin to plan our transition. Still working on learning the language on Dualingo. I have the most important thing for me down now though, en kaffe takk.
@@ChrisSloanes As long as it's calibrated not to roast your alternator, it's seems like an ideal solution! And a high enough output for a quick cuppa is critical...
Top quality entertainment as always mate. Glad you got the leccy sorted. 👍🏼👍🏼
As always, great film and really interesting update in the electrics! Loving this wee series Chris!
The Clayton power units are the monkeys nuts. So versatile. Great vid. Looks like a mega trip.
Great information on the power adaptation. Would love to now the address. To get my California done.
@ahoyleisure on Instgram mate. They will sort it for you and i believe @urbanarcoverland has a discount too

Showing Norway off in it finest !.
Are you going to show details of the Clayton install, what kit used, where and how it was wired up on a video ?
Thanks a lot. That’s what I hoped for. Yes I will be making a detailed video about the instal etc
Have you ever done the in depth video of the clayton power install?
Morning mate, beautiful stuff as always…🙌
Thanks buddy. Appreciate it.

Haha yeah i kept it until the end. I will be doing a more detailed video showing the install and how it works etc too pretty soon.

@@ChrisSloanes Chris I'm sorry to hear that I don't believe it your vids are amazing as well as you video`s
Could you show more detail on how the Clayton Power is setup in your GC? Thanks!
Probably best to speak to Clayton direct mate.

Bloody hell ! I typed all this before watching the full video. Ah well glad things are working well.
Its working perfectly for a change mate haha
just found this series - loving it!
which month did you travel in?
atb
It was September into October mate. Was incredible
So does the leisure battery not charge whilst you drive? Or is it a case that the leisure battery runs out too quick if you park up and use things, doesn’t just running the engine cure it?
It’s more the fact that the standard leasure battery has no inverter etc so other than a few usb sockets nothing else works.
The T's are marked by Turistforeningen, The Norwegian Trekking Association. Routes all over the country, many including cabins for overnight stays.

@@ChrisSloanes You might want to add "en øl takk!", for later in the day!
That's one fine can of lithium you got installed! DC go DC charging as well?
Yeah its been fantastic. Yeah its DC to DC too so its perfect, plus the small solar panel on the roof chips away and helps too
