- Hi this is Frank, in this video I show you how to transmit a CW tone for tuning without a CW key on the IC-705 but rather using the hand microphone buttons. This come handy for manually adjusting a Manual Tuner, Antenna length or Magnetic Loop Antenna without additional hardware.
Note: This also applies for the IC-7300, the Menu offers On/Off options.

Thank you Frank for the info, though there are a couple of extra steps to set / check. In the CW-KEY SET Menu, there is an option for Key Type. This must be set to straight. If its accidentally set to Paddle for example, one of the chosen microphone buttons will act as a Dit and the other as a Dah. i.e. it will not give a continuous tone. The very important step is to enable BKIN. This is the left hand button under the POWER button on the rig, which when in CW mode switches the BKIN mode. If this is not on, then the microphone buttons will have no effect.
Good point, I was expecting some comments like this after publishing, in deed we may have different settings, it would have been nice to show all of them. I have Pinned your comment so others can consider the additional info you provided and help them set their radio. Thanks.
Not having BKIN set, I ran into "no signal" behaviour :D thanks for troubleshooting!
Very helpful tips! Thank you.
Thank you!
Hello Frank this is a very informative video and I've started to use your technic. Thank you!
Hi Tor, glad you liked it, it still serves to this day to test SWR with my new antenna, glad to share it to all! Thanks for the comment! 73

Exelent, thank you.
You are welcome!
I have a problem. I can hear the sound but there is no transmission until I don't press both arrow (or letter) and PTT.
Is there any setting I missed? As far as I know, "dah" position is basically PTT in both straight key and paddle settings of most transceivers.
I have not come across that issue, please recheck all settings as per visible in the video and note the Key must be set to Straight (as a user commented). May be check the Break-In options? Good luck.
@@VE2FGJ it really was because of break-in disabled.
@@tulenik71 Glad you found it!👍
