  • This was a busy railfanning adventure on Labor Day! 11 trains posed for my camera on the central section of the CSX Abbeville Subdivision: Manifests Q676-03, L619-05, Q614-04, Q616-05 (retiring at Harper Siding), and Q676-04, autorack trains Q210-04 and Q211-03, intermodal Q194-05, ethanol train K660-01 with two trailing CP units, and coal trains E320-29 (don't miss the awesome start-up of the 16,000 t train at Howie Siding!) and E320-02. Enjoy in Full HD! [© 2016 MBMARS Productions. Exclusive rights for RUclips channel "mbmars01" only.]

    Very nice and thank you so much for not recording this at a gate, all the bells and horns at the gate are very annoying. Just the train sounds, engine, wheels.........heaven!

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 лет назад

      I know. I find it okay if the bells stop after the gates are closed. But the one in Mableton (as in my previous videos) is particularly notorious and I have the feeling they do that on purpose to scare away people from watching trains there. Thanks, I'm glad you like it as much as I do :)

    The coal train comes through where I live NW of Columbia, SC. Through Columbia to the Santee Cooper Wateree electric station in Southeast Richland county, SC. Hence, the SCWX markings on the cars. This is great stuff you have here. ☺

    love watching your vids and eating oreo cookies before bed there relaxing and exciting lol! those "epic" cars are quite intriguing to me! they have that miscellaneous haz mat symbol with the UN code 3432 (polychlorinated biphenyl). interesting!

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 лет назад

      Yeah, I had checked this code as well. Everybody calls them just "waste containers", but in fact they are used for some rather hazardous material as well. I had to laugh about the cookies and wondered whether the cookies might be more exciting than the videos lol

      Oh, I'm soooo sorry ;) I admit, I had to laugh loud about your comment! I tell ya, I have already ruined several sets of speakers while editing my videos. I turn them typically very loud to get a feeling for the best audio output. Life is hard lol. Thank you, I'm glad you liked the video.

      @RyanHatterer-Ryanns999 8 лет назад

      Ahh the speakers are a few years old. I was actually thinking about getting newer ones, and now I have one more reason. I enjoy watching your videos, they gave a since of what a day is like on the railroad, the good and the bad (Q616 for example from the other week)

    • @mbmars01

      Cool, thanks! I enjoy the good days on the line more than the bad ones, of course, and I wish they would start learning some lessons to avoid those many problems. Keep watching!

    mbmars, all your videos, at least the ones I have watched so far, are excellent! I've watched about 10 in the past week and one thing I love about them is what they do for my Prosperity Consciousness. Among other things, when I watch them I see money, money on the move, creative enterprise at work. I see people providing things that people want and need, and are in turn rewarded for their efforts. I see, and feel, the American Capitalist Free Enterprise System, far from perfect but still the best economic system ever, at work at its profoundest level. Thank You for your efforts in making these videos available. May health be yours, and for your loved ones, in the New Year.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 лет назад

      +Robert Caldwell We can only hope that the economy finds a stable level and that in turn the railroads can use some extra money for improvements. It's urgently needed in some places. Many thanks and keep watching! There are more than 250 videos on this channel. Enjoy your holidays and have a Happy New Year!

    Wow, very uncommon to see a mid-DPU on a mixed consist train here.
    I've noticed most of the coal going through Auburn and Winder has been going north, which is odd because we don't exactly mine coal down in the South.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  5 лет назад

      This train was Q616 and it was abolished last year, unfortunately. The only trains with DPU are loaded coal trains here currently. All loaded coal trains go north, but they actually came from the north (IL), go south to Atlanta, and north on the Abbeville Sub to reach their destinations in SC.

    How long can a crew be on duty and what happens id they time out in the middle of a run?

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  4 года назад

      Crews are typically on duty for 12 hours and if they get close to the limit while still on the line, they either tie down the train in a siding and are picked up by a van or taxi. If another crew is readily available, they may perform the crew change wherever it is possible - even on the main line, if necessary. The dispatchers (and crews, of course) have always an eye on when the crew will law out.

    • @mbmars01

      Well, crews, track inspectors, and dispatchers often refer to the room "between the switches", when they talk about sidings.

    Nice video! I hear railroaders call those who watch and film trains "foamers" (I guess their slang for foaming at the mouth in excitement), wonder if they call themselves foamers when they watch athletes or others doing their jobs?

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 лет назад

      Well, that's understandable. But I'm glad I can say most of the crews are very friendly out here, but - as in all businesses - some people don't like to get watched when they do their work. I have never made any bad experience, though; I rather think that train crews and work crews appreciate that their often hard work is well documented in these videos.

    • @kenmelrac
      @kenmelrac 8 лет назад

      My brother is a retired railroader and he uses the term. I guess they're afraid that the videos may be taken out of context and get them in trouble.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 лет назад

      kenmelrac Well, if you work for a railroad you know that you're exposed to people who are interested in what you do. Trains are just fascinating and many people like watching them. The advantage of a railfan is that he sees more than the crews and obviously much more than the dispatcher. Pointing out certain things can actually be quite helpful for the railroad and its operations. For example, if someone at CSX would watch my videos they could surely figure out some weak points in their system. That can finally also be good for the crews. Videos help also to build up public appreciation for the railroads and the hard work of the railroaders. I often get feedback from people who didn't have any idea about how railroads work and how tough the work of train and work crews is. It's a giving and taking and, as I said earlier, some crews really like it and others just don't care. I have never experienced that someone was upset about being filmed.
