  • All hands busy and the CSX dispatcher must coordinate it. He did well and threaded the eleven trains shown in this video through the Abbeville Sub while track work had to be done in Hull GA and elsewhere along the line. The trains are manifests Q619-14, Q614-14, autoracks Q210-14 with two rebuilt SD40-3, intermodal Q194-15, local A749-15, grain train K804-10 with Union Pacific engines, and 5 coal trains: T751-10, U770-13, N320-11, E320-11, and one unknown. Enjoy in Full HD! [© 2016 MBMARS Productions. Exclusive rights for RUclips channel "mbmars01" only.]

    Another good video ! A pleasure to watch . Excellent clear , sharp and steady video with the same in audio . You have top quality equipment and a steady hand . Thanks for including some signals . We like that as with a little practice , we can tell what's going to happen , what is currently happening , and what just happened , by reading the signals . Looking for more from you !

    Gees, you got a good eye. That quick shot of the DPU bulging out of that line of coal cars was an excellent bit of editing but catching that mirror twinkling away as the coal train departed after crossing the new switch demonstrates why your videos are so good.
    Yes good gear helps, good light was on your side but it takes more than good gear to get this quality. The telephoto distortion coupled with heat distortion make for some memorable shots as well. Shooting between the equipment at the crossings is a lovely effect demonstrating the optical qualities of your camera as well as your excellent eye for an interesting shot. The curve of the train and the fold in the field of view as it moves back out of the standby track - just another interesting detail that pops that wouldn't have been in the video if you had been shooting just a few feet further to the right.
    How far apart are all those multiple crossings where the trains wait for the signal to turn? Are those streets or driveways? Such a lot of crossing in such a short distance. If those are streets it must be at least a couple of mile down there all collapsed into that telephoto shot. Oh I just saw a private crossing sign.
    Those UP grain units ... They wouldn't have UP crews on them would they? Surely they would have just handed off the train at the interconnection point. Dumb question I know. These locis must be customized a bit for each company and location. Operators must be fairly multi-dexterous to handle the different control systems to be jumping between different companies locomotives. I see the last of the cars are CSX branded pointing to a CSX originated unit train.
    The sun shot at the end was a nice extra. I wish I could give you more than one thumbs up but that seems to be the way here on the RUclips.
    Thanks for posting this most excellent video. Well done.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your detailed feedback! You're right, most if these crossings are private (driveways, not roads) and they are very close to each other, maybe a few hundred feet if at all. It's true, crews of the host railroad operate the engines, independently of "color" or train origin/destination. I'm very happy you paid so much attention to the video details, some of which are really not easy to come by. Keep watching, there's so much to discover in the videos of this channel :) I know you have been watching videos here in the past and I appreciate it.

    fascinating view of the track maintenance work. Wielding that big sledgehammer is the job to have in that heat. Very interesting that they literally fit it in between trains rather than closing the line to all traffic.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  8 лет назад

      Thanks. There is too much traffic on this line. They cannot simply close it. They have windows when train action is rather slow and then they use this time for maintenance or repair.

      Yeah Q192 was incredibly short by here. Was only 5 loads. It seems from what I've heard is it will be assembled in Syracuse with blocks from Q140 from Savanna, Q190 from Philly, Q157 from Kearny, and Q163 from Port Newark. He may pick up the Q140 loads south of me in NJ but we'll see...

    do you know what the benefit of the dpu in the middle of the train is, as opposed to just running 3 locomotives up front? thanks.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  6 лет назад +2

      The name says it: distributed power. The stress on knuckle and the braking effort is better distributed along the train with one or more engines in the middle and/or at the end of a train. To find the best location is a bit of an art and depends on the grades along the line.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 лет назад +2

      I agree, it's confusing. The line goes from Atlanta, GA in the south to Abbeville, SC in the north. Therefore, trains call themselves north- or southbounds. Around Athens, GA, it indeed looks more like an east-west line on the map. So, southbounds go west, northbounds go east here.

    trains are great, until 1 person decides they aren't and can derail 2 kilometers of goods with a single act.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 лет назад

      Fortunately, it's not like that. Knuckles are constructed in a way that they break quickly if there is too much stress and torque acting on them. Furthermore, if air hoses get disconnected between the cars or the connection of lead engine an the end-of-train device gets interrupted otherwise, emergency braking sets in automatically. I stood beside several trains when they went into emergency and I was amazed how quickly they come to a full stop. While derailments still happen relatively frequently, in most cases the damage is confined to a few cars only.

    • @duststorm9548
      @duststorm9548 7 лет назад

      I lived in Nebraska and was amazed how high wind could blow over train cars, yet cars on the highway were untouched, supposedly because the vehicles were moving faster than the trains they were able to blow through the gusts, but the trains fell right over.

    • @mbmars01
      @mbmars01  7 лет назад

      I believe it. Very strong local wind gusts, such as a tornado, can do that. However, this is apparently not an incident that can be caused by a single human being.
