- Today I thought I'd give you all a taste of my quiet life with the birds, as well as my first hunting trip out of this season, with Venom my 20 year old Harris hawk.
There are scenes of hunting (though not gory in any way for those on the gentle side).

Oh my, what a beautiful baby Alfie is with chubby little cheeks. Give that little one some extra cuddles for me. Each and every one of the hawks are just stunning to see and I envy you to be able to handle and work those gorgeous dogs and the birds. Nature is one of the most beautiful things in life that we are able to enjoy. Today most people are too busy with life to even take notice and that is sad. I live in a very populated area not for from Washington, DC and I am able to view so very much wildlife around me and it actually stuns me. Walking my nephew's dog a fox was walking down the sidewalk and when he got about 10 ft. away from us he crossed the street to avoid us. I have deer, foxes, geese, ducks, hawks, great blue herons, and the most beautiful pair of bald eagles and they will stand in the edge of the pond and fish. I so enjoy every minute of it and wouldn't trade it for anything. Much love, stay safe and cuddle little Alfie for me.

I grew up in Southern Ct.
Old growth hardwood forests,
and a boat on the sound.
Some people would call that
Privilage. But, I lucked out.

Thanks Amy. Alfie is adorable. It's so nice to see how easy it is for you to be active with the birds with Alfie in tow...and it is very relaxing to get a glimpse of life in that environment. It's great to see dogs doing real dog stuff. No leashes, fences, bad behavior or endless boredom.

I’ve so enjoyed this video, thank you for sharing your walk . The surprise pheasant reminded me of walks in the Scottish hills that my Dad would take me on & the ‘shock’ of an unseen grouse or pheasant suddenly taking off a couple of feet away from us. Wonderful experiences.
I have never seen anyone suited up and trekking through marsh, carrying a six month old baby, a bird of prey, the required gear, a selfie stick, navigating fences and gates, while providing commentary. You are an absolute boss.

All days with a video from you are better! With my favorite hawk, the Harris', it's even better. I've watched them in the wild on trips to the southwest, and have a large photo of a youngster in a flowering bush hanging in my living room. Beautiful birds, with fascinating social behavior!

Does a religious bather cleanse themself on a set in stone schedule? Or do they pray before bathing and recite the rosary whilst drying off?

I live on the edge of one of California's many deserts that small Mobile home/ Recreational vehicle parks populate the landscape. Well this morning on my bike ride around in the park ( 285 unit size ) a hawk had grabbed a bit of breakfast in the middle of the street. I first saw the victims feathers all about then noticed as I got closer the hawk sitting on top of a dove. So I stopped a good 10 meters away to watch and old hawk wanted no witnesses so grabbed it's breakfast an flew off. Not many Raptors out here as this was the first one I've seen.

Great care of the birds. Alfie has great instincts like Mommy. Harris Hawks seem to be incredible hunting partners and I've noticed humans are great bird dogs for their falcons LOL
Major systems meltdown all week in my world of IT. So thank you for the foggy walk in the hills with beautiful birds of prey. Such unvarnished joy.

I love hearing about the peregrine falcons. I live near Rochester, NY, and there used to be a pair of peregrine falcons who nested in Kodak Tower every year. They used to have something called the falcon cam on the pair. Not sure if they are still there, but the pair came back year after year to raise their young. It was really neat.

It did take a couple of weeks of introduction and work for them to become accustomed to him. A couple of them just thought I'd grown an extra head! :D

Does Venom ever hunt with other birds? I usually see them in groups of 3 or 4. They are fun to watch but they worry my wife because our Chihuahuas are meal size to them. Alfie looks happy and healthy and observant, what a great life you have given him. Take care, all of you!
