      I happen to have played a lot of turn based tactics games this year (Mechanicus and BG3) and JA3 is by a hugely wide margin the worst UI, not just due to incomprehensible display elements (which is still missing half of the information that you want), but even more so the controls that constantly change depending on context

    Hi, like the other one, excellent video.
    I did not really go for stealth kills so far, because for me the red exclamation mark alreay counted as "doesnt work" and "failed".
    Now I see for the first time:
    -how close you can get without them noticing you
    -how much time can go by between noticing and reacting
    -that you can try again and again, as long as they only notice and not react
    Thanks a lot

      Thank you! Also if you are not too confortable with it, you can also start with using just melee stealth kills. Due to the "pre-aiming" these are much more comfortable to pull of. If you then have a character with the stealth trait like mouse, or igor, it's actually quite elegant and powerful...maybe even too powerful ^^

    Maybe a useful tip. You can do double stealth takedowns of targets that stand near each other if you combine a knife kill with a silenced sniper shot. Mark one of the targets and have your melee start moving towards it from some distance. Select your sniper, aim at the other target's head and watch your melee. The moment your melee starts his attack animation, take the shot. Both targets will die if no one fails their attack and you'll stay undetected in real time mode.

      @@KordanorsGamingLairwhy wouldn’t it be intended? I am new to the game recently, it was on a Steam sale, and just guessed at using overwatch of some kind by sneaking them into place before going for the stealth kill was very much intended, learning from you there was more weapons that could get a silencer helps that intention

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  2 месяца назад

      @@CanadianWolverine I think this was probably a byproduct which hasn't been intended, but was kept in. The point is, that it is much too strong any you basically exploit a mechanic that enemies can't detect something while this action/animation is in progress. Since my video they also added the function to pause manually. What was described by Darkshadow84 is actually extremely easy now using pause, and it's even relatively easy to do so with 3 victims. In theory you could even set up more. So, it was very hard to pull this off before, the Pause function was only added due to fan feedback and this now makes it very easy.

    • @CanadianWolverine
      @CanadianWolverine 2 месяца назад

    best one of these I've seen so far.. Could've expanded a bit and tried to explain combat starting alternatives ..
    For players new to the francize it needs to be pointed out that:
    In this gaming universe for unknown reason (balance ) the BASIC concept of synced ambushes (multiple synchronized takedowns ) is artificially forbidden (on purpose clunky realtime control interface).
    You have hidden dice rolls to keep killing enemies undetected 1 vs 1 ; 1 vs 1 ... .etc (damage up to MAX target HP or extra damage multiplier ?) and when that eventually fails turn based is triggered and properly pre set overwatch cones can then further reduce the enemy numbers as they try to run for cover and trigger the overwatch shots vs exposed targets)
    .. And AFTER ALL THAT .. turn based combat (1 team then the other team) is properly started with hopefully a sufficiently small number of the remaining enemies !

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  Год назад

      Yeah, synced ambushed would make it more into a commandos game. But even single takedowns could have been done better, especially with low range pistols.
      Not quite sure what you mean with the hidden rolls though. Maybe you mean the assassination chance I show at 4:55?
      The repositioning turn of the enemies however is not triggered necessarily, you can also avoid it, if you keep enemies in surprised state when ending the turn. But that requires that they get into surprisedstate in the first place (and not to aware right away)

    • @peddroelm
      @peddroelm Год назад +1

      @@KordanorsGamingLair The UI up to 4 pips of chance to stealth kill (lower in combat even if attacker is hidden but now target is aware).. As long it is not Guaranteed ..its a dice roll .. Assuming max pips is 100% to get the kill then each pip is +25% to get it but .. without actual numbers .. just an assumption ..
      Also the pips might show actual chance rounded down to 25% multiples while the actual chance more granular .. math of char stats / perks / target aware un aware level difference / etc..
      I'm assuming a D100 float is 'rolled' and compared with the computed actual chance get the stealth kill .. I'm calling it HIDDEN because they don't show the dice roll nor the actual chance in the combat log .. Only the result .. Stealth kill or Non Stealth Kill or surprised or ALARM ! in case of hit ..

      @KordanorsGamingLair  Год назад

      @@KordanorsGamingLair by this reasoning, without show CTH mod enabled, the chance to hit for gun / melee and range melee attacks are hidden dice rolls .. As the outcome for those is binary hit/miss one doesn't need to see the D100 roll when the CTH is show by the mod ..
      But even if they'd just shown the numeric CTH value without breakdown it would've been mystifying for player, as the CTH formula in jagged alliance 3 is quite complex , a lot of possible variables allowing for big variations between seemingly similar attacks ..
      I'm considering writing a guide with most possible factors involved in the CTH formula in JA3 (and why it would be a fools errand, even for long time intelligent veteran players to attempt to accurately predict/learn CTH playing without the CTH breakdown mod .. ) But as I don't currently own the game and there is low amount on youtube of combat with the CTH mod enabled .. might take me a while ...

    Or agility and marksmanship also play some role?

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  Год назад +1

      When you are talking about that red bar, showing your chance in 25%, thats only based on Dexterity afaik and the weapon you use (and the state of the enemy) and of course perks.
      Marksmanship is necessary so that you hit in the first place. Ofc if you miss the shot, you wont kill anything. Agi is similar in that regard: You need agi to approach the enemy undetected, but in terms of the "stealth kill chance on attack", AGI does not matter.

      Haha, thanks a lot! Yeah, Shadow is probably a topic for himself, but didnt want to go into individual Mercs or too much into weapon types or attachments and keep it a bit more "general". Grunty is a bit problematic though...not just is his talent causing trouble...especially as a german he is the most cringe character in the whole game. Not a fan of how he was changed from the previous JA games ^^

    • @messire9837
      @messire9837 Год назад +1

      @@KordanorsGamingLair That's true, Grunty has always been like that, and you know it as an old-time player. As a night-ops he hates incompetents. But he has his heads, and then he becomes one of the best picks morale sink wise. And he's EXTREMELY comptent. Never misses a grenade lauch. NEVER. As long as Igor never misses his light source lauch. But that doesn't happen either. "As you see, Igor..." his kinda ultra competent in his own way.
      As for back to Grunty, first, he's in love with Sondergaard. Second, him and Igor are very best friends. Meaning Ivan is leading the team of merry won nighters, basically. You want the best tactical grenadier HIS tory has to offer? Put him with the A tac-team, you'll see what he's worth. But you already know that, obviously. It's just that you find him cringe because he's playing Schoppenhauer all the time to troll his friend Igor who always quote Leon Tolstoï as if it was a Fallout game.
      Also, Henessy (Hitman) adores working with Grunty. And that also tends to put enessy into EXTREMELY performant mode, so as to not fail Grunty's EXTREMELY performant expectations from the team, out of respect for Ivan Dolvitch, who's happens to be one of the most competent gunmen Grunty has yet to see back in action... Until now, finally.
      Last but not least, Gus Tarballs pretty much has him as a protegé (though he's not Len or Scully), out of respect for his good friend Von Branitz, Grunty's ex superior officer, who has yet to make it into the game with many others.
      Of course, if you put Grunty with Thor or even anything 'muh aristocratic' Buns don't like, well... He'll become smirky, all right. That's Grunty. Always has been. Also he doubles up as a garantee for competence in my tactical team. That's the real reason why I like him.
      Now consider his love of competence and that Nettelson special hability combined with a full crit spec wider shotty/sniper, for example. And Buns and Henessy to make sure the corpses are ALL really dead here after : competence. And also, hand over the stomach while drinking red whines, basically. Just like me Grunty who managed to save his own AP for later out of doing nothing left to do AGAIN.
      Also, I can't wait to watch the Spiffingbrit destroy this game in an in glitch sort of weight. How about you? Ha, ha!
      Sorry for the longer post, I guess my interest/passion for this game made me do that.

    If you fail a stealth kill, is it possible to maintain stealth in some way, such as killing them while they are in the surprised state, or is that it for stealth the moment you fail once?

    • @KordanorsGamingLair
      @KordanorsGamingLair  Год назад

      If you fail, thats kinda it. Unless the enemy was completely isolated and you manage to kill him within in the turn. But usually with a failed attempt you will have activated multiple enemies and then you would need to kill them all.

    • @trolleurdurden5534
      @trolleurdurden5534 Год назад

      There are two specific situations where you can actually maintain stealth even when you miss an attack.
      First one is when you completely miss a stealth melee attack: the enemy is surprised, allowing you to perform one attack before he becomes aware and warns his buddies. So if you have a knife, you can do the "Brutalize" special attack and stab him repeatedly, which is usually more than enough to dispatch him. If you succeed, there's no alarm triggered. But if you fail, you are now standing up in the open without AP and enemies are triggered.
      The second is when you use Fox. Her special ability makes enemies surprised instead of aware when they are hit for the first time, giving you another opportunity to kill them before they sound the alarm. She doesn't have the Stealth perk but has 100 in Dex, which is the stats governing the success chance of both a melee attack and a stealth kill.

    • @Kordanor
      @Kordanor Год назад

      @@trolleurdurden5534 Yeah, but as I mentioned in the other comment, this is more about the enemy situation, than anything else. If you have 2 enemies for example standing next to each other, and the other enemies are far away, you might "stay in stealth" either way, after both are killed, as long as the others dont get "activated" for example via loud gunshots, and it wouldn't even matter which status your targets get (surprised or even aware). If you have enemies in the room on the other side, this will likely not work. But then it also doesn't matter if you have two enemies which are surprised. Once you attack the first, the other will go into the aware state. Then it basically only works if its only one enemy who is surprised. And in that case you can brutalize him as mentioned (which is a single attack not leaving the enemy time to transition to next phase). Fox ability also doesnt make much of a difference there. When you fail with a silencer for example, enemies will be surprised no matter what. I think the bigger advantage Fox has, is that she doesnt lose AP, so she still got all attempt for a second attack. This also makes her great to take out groups of two on her own actually (killing the first, second enemy getting surprised, then killing the second with full AP->brutalize).

    • @trolleurdurden5534
      @trolleurdurden5534 Год назад

      @@Kordanor The thing is, if you fail the stealth attack completely, the enemy is ineed always surprised. But sometimes, you can land the attack but fail the stealth kill, resulting in the attack dealing normal damage. If this happens, the enemy is instantly triggered, with the exception of Fox's ability keeping him surprised.
      When it comes to enemies close to one another, it is usually impossible to stealth kill everyone. However, if you stealth kill someone and another enemy notices it, he will be surprised, allowing you to kill him too, with a silenced rifle for example. So it's actually possible to stealth kill duos of enemies in some circumstances.
      One last thing which is very handy is that it's possible to go into stealth during combat if you manage to get out of enemies LoS completely, which can be very useful in a lot of different situations.
