Hi Nigel, thanks for watching. I travelled from Basingstoke to London Waterloo for a good number of years, I always tried to catch the Exeter service just to ride behind a 33, 50 and finely 47's before the class 159 emu's took over. They were all great diesels but the Hoovers were best apart from when the odd one would blow up!! Cheers Pete
Wow, brilliant capture mate, wish I’d been there to see it for real! thanks for sharing and all the best, hopefully we’ll be able to get back to some of these brilliant heritage lines in the non to distant future. Have been watching a few of my east lancs railway videos to reminisce over some similar diesel footage! Thanks mate, Paul
Anyone commenting about the ammount of clag even on a warm engine that poor thing has a 14 mile run on the SVR where it only needs to idle to generate the volts needed. The engine must be sooted up to buggar. They need opening up and loaded up at speed which obviously they cant do on that line.
That’s what a Class 50 does they first entered service in 1967 long before pollution was the big issue. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers Pete
Hi Steve, I guess that maybe you didn't enjoy the video. I travelled up to London Waterloo from Basingstoke throughout the Class 50 period and to be honest I was never let down by one. I would always where possible travel on a Waterloo to Exeter service and this included 33's and 47's both suffering from failures. Anyway thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers Pete
@@ghostontheline hi Pete. Thanks for putting yourself in the firing line as it were. Enjoyed the video, my comments were aimed at the 50 itself. I stand by my comments, as will anyone who doesn't have rose tinted specs!
@@ghostontheline "clag monster" is not a good description for a preserved, well maintained loco. They used to fill Glasgow and Paddington stations with smoke!
Hi Steve, yes I do know what you mean , anyway I now live in Templecombe and have got very fond of the Class 159's. What I don't like is SWR, please come back SWT. Cheers :Pete
She's chucking out more fuel than she's burning! Ah, the charm of a 50!!! I love 'em!!!!

Hi, I remember that day well, the driver put on a good display. Yes it’s good to be able to fall back on old videos, in my case 2009. Cheers Pete
Wow not purple but BLUE haze!
Hi Robert, I am sure Jimi H would have approved. I wonder if he was a class 50 basher apart from being a wizard on the electric guitar? Cheers Pete
Classic 1970s Clag there in the 21st Century 💕
Hi Stephen, thanks for watching the video, it's still great to see them running over fifty years on.Pete
Hope that one day the SVR will go on further possibly to Ironbridge power station,??
Beautiful:). They know how to put on a show those things :)..... Great Video at SVR
So much better with headlight removed. Now they need to restore the air intake fans to get the hoover sound back.
Hi, thanks for watching, I remember that day well, what an exhibition........Regards Pete

@SpeedbirdConcorde no they shouldn't be I guess that's why GBRF have taken them on and put back on the mainline
Terrific takeoff!
Not Half!!
Was expecting more noise
Hi Michael, sorry you were disappointed with the Class 50 sound but thanks for watching. Cheers Pete
@@ghostontheline great video did enjoy watching 50 looks good

Enough to give an enviromentalist asma lol
Every greenpeace activist wants gassing out by one of these.
Thumbs Up
Unreliable, stinky, smokey piece if crap. They always were and they always will be! Why restore such a bad advert for preserved traction?
