Great job and I'm glad that all the saxophonist kept their fingers on the keys when playing (I was told to do this by my neighbor Jerome Richardson and Sonny Stitt).
Obviously great level band; perhaps for me the sidemen of the saxes section are too shy, we don't hear the Thad Jones voicings enough, a Jazz saxes tutti is a gang, tough and hard. Listen to Basie live records with Marshall Royal, Frank Wess, Billy Michell, Frank Foster and Charlie Fowlkes, everybody blows hard at the same volume, no present to the lead alto..
I think what you’re hearing has a little bit to do with the alto. (Second) alto needs to really tuck in on the unisons but “bring it”on the harmonies more than the other chairs. I’ve layered myself a lot playing all the parts and it always gives extra life to it when the second part is approached this way. Some of this could be how the engineer mixed the saxes too because this band is really nailing the style!
@@ronglennproductions5416 Thanks, anyway the soprano is overmixed, the engineer has to be at the same level than the band, or change that guy who kills the music.
I’m a trumpet in my high school jazz band and we are doing this piece this year. It sounds absolutely wonderful
It’s a classic!
The lead soprano sax is wonderful ! Great sax section, brasses and rythms ! Bravissimi. Vero nice performance.
the rock version of this is fire

Life sure is sweet huh?

his tone is crazy
Thad is know around the world, and for good reason . . . .
Great playing! Such a nice band!

I was wondering why the audio and video didn't line up? I truly love groove merchant. Great job.
Needed to hear that Chinese cymbal, especially behind those saxes
Yeah!!!
Great !!!!!!
zoooooooooo goed en lekker. mmmmmm
Heerlijke uitvoering! ♥ (de oorspronkelijke componist van de muziek is Jerome Richardson). Is dit het arrangement van Carl Schulze voor de Skymasters?
Natuurlijk! Ik pas het aan! Nee dit is het originele arrangement van Thad Jones

The drummer is the weak link here...weak drummer, weak band.
Plays the tune the same as Mel RIP. That kid is also ambidextrous. To me he sounds as a very good drummer.
yeah I’m also curious as to why you think the drummer is weak
