This is such a great review! Showing what all the pick up option Sound like on both clean and overdriven. Not a bunch of dramatic talking, just straight to the sound of the guitar and kudos to the lettering on the video telling you which position the switch is on.
That was interesting! I wouldn't have guessed, but the rosewood fingerboard strat sounds fuller and more earthy while the maple is a little brighter and more twangy. Don't think it's an optical illusion based on colors.
I re-visited this video. ( I now have the Dark Knight but with maple neck. ) To my ears, there’s little difference in the middle and bridge positions, but the neck pickup sounds slightly brighter & snappier in the video.
I noticed that too... It's probably due to the kind of Pickups on those am pro II models. I have the feeling the maples sound better with those Pickups, not True with other models like ultra series, am standard or others, usually i like it better with rosewood.
Maple sits better in the mix as of its punchier mids, especially at the end with high gain. Rosewood sounds more like that typical strat. Great comparison.
I went for the dark night with maple fretboard. No regrets. Both are great options. Rosewoods are darker but snappier, while maple seems to be brighter yet damper
@Squall6575 Hey! Year on down the road. Thanks for that succinct-but-enlightening description of the rosewood vs maple characteristics. I’m having a tough time deciding for my first ever Strat. However, as I’ve suggested to others who are torn between two colors, I could get one neck with 3 single coils and the other with an HSS setup, which seems wise and very reasonable to me.
@@strummercash5601 It would depend on what sound you want. I already have a Gibson Les Paul so I have the Humbuckers for any harsher sounds, so I opted for the 3 single coils
I'm new to the Strat game. When playing clean or by itself, the Rosewood seemed to sound a little fuller to me which I enjoyed. When you got towards the end playing in the mix, the Maple seemed to cut through much better though. Beautiful playing man!
The maple is just that little bit grittier, a fair bit brighter, it has more aggression and snarl, clearer sound as well imo. The rosewood is a bit softer, smooth, darker in tone. I think it's clear I'm a fan of maple but both have their qualities.
It's never to late! If you're prepared to really commit to this you'll be surprised how far you can go. There are so many resources on RUclips the sky's the limit. Good luck 🤞🏻
To throw more gasoline on the fire, there’s a video on RUclips where a guy has ten guitars identical to the Miami blue one in this video and he compares them and they all sound slightly different!
Does it really, though? I think what may be affecting it is more likely the difference in construction and finish. The maple is a single piece of wood, the rosewood is a laminate on a thinner piece of maple, making the layer of glue that holds them together affect the tone probably more than the difference in wood used. There is absolutely no way the vibration of the strings makes it through that layer of glue unaffected, it has to be introducing some degree of dampening. The only way you could possibly compare the tonal differences of the necks is if they were constructed in exactly the same way, meaning the maple neck would need to be thinner and have a separate maple fretboard glued to it. I'll bet that would darken down the sound and shrink the tonal difference to being near imperceptible between the two.
could you do american professional 2 vs prs silver sky ? rosewood version, and play little wing, lenny, slow dancing and gravity, yellow led better too if possible...would be cool!
I have the MN Dark Night and it sounds great. The Silver Sky is a slightly different beast… a Strat is reknown. The Pro 2 plays almost as good as my core 24 PRS. No regrets with the Pro 2 !
Love the tone! Im trying to decide between the American Original 60s Strat or the Professional II. This sounds great for 500$ cheaper. What are your thoughts?? Thank you, keep it up
I have the Dark Night Strat with Rosewood. Love it. Never played anything more expensive so I can't give you a tonal comparison other than it sounds so much richer and fuller than my Player. Feels better in the hands too. Play them both and then decide if the $500 is worth it. I'm happy with the extra I spent for the AP II.
After more than 2 years of abstinence, I went to the Music Station again and played 3 Fender American Professional II Strats, and again I noticed that the woods had little vibrancy, the maple necks were not very dense and responsive, there was little twang, little crunch , wiry-glassy, few overtones, sustain, attack, everything you associate with Fender guitars, everything is less than on my ESP 400 Series Strats and less than on my BLADE Texas models. This can be tested objectively and I can only say that I am extremely disappointed with this price-performance ratio. No, I can no longer objectively understand this adulation regarding Fender Strats. My first Stratocaster was a Fender American Standard Stratocaster and that was my worst guitar of all, a Fender Mexico Standard followed after that, but after I played the ESPs and the BLADEs everything was clear to me, and that proves itself again, every time, when I compare, the same result always comes out - what else can I say, it is true! The ESP-400-Series Strats and the BLADEs have objectively, noticeably and audibly better tonewood, the BLADEs even have a flattened neck-body-joint and covered fret slots and therefore much better playability!!! So, I'm done with Fender, I'm playing something clever, and at a much cheaper price. I don't want to talk anyone out of their love of Fender, I have nothing against you buying the (usually) worse guitars for a far too exorbitant price, you're welcome to do that. Then there will be more BLADEs for me, very simple! Thanks for listening!

Agree
Great demo! I have a hard time getting past my cosmetic bias for maple on Fenders, but I think the rosewood sounds a little better to my ears.
The Dark Night Rosewood hands down. It also wins on beauty as well as sound.
That dark knight finish looks amazing and it sounds spectacular.

I really like the blue one
I got it say that fender knock it out of the park with these two color patterns. Dark knight and the Miami blue. Beautiful guitars 😍
I can’t decide which to get 😂
@@whwh7339 I got the Miami blue. It’s a beauty
@@alerojo7770 yeah I’ve decided to get that one this year! Can’t wait!

The Dark night 👍
The maple neck sounds a little brighter. The rosewood is darker, smoother sounding. It's all a matter of preference.
That’s how it should sound but in this video the maple neck sounded darker and warmer. The Rosewood it was too bright
@@phasedesign2079 that’s what I thought too. Rosewood sounded brighter.
All this is showing me is that the differences are subtle there isn't a superior version.

Think I’m gonna go Dark Night with maple fretboard
I got dark night whit maple sounds better to me.
thanks so much, this video really helps! with this i will go with the MN
I consistently like the the Rosewood guitar, but it could be something other than the fret board. Body material, strings, players comfort etc.
I absolutely love my new professional ii 2 tone sunburst!
Me too 😊
I went for the dark night and rosewood strat. I love the crispness of it.

I hope not. I just started at 57. Loving it.
I like the Fender "Quack" out of the middle & bridge pickups...
Rosewood looks little bit better, both sounds are awesome!
Love this!! Amazing tone! What are you using for amp and effects?
what gauge of strings do you use?
For soloing maple sounds better for me

Thickness? Thanks again!

Buenísimo!
I’ve always had maple but I went with rosewood on my dark knight.
I went with the Dark night with maple. Great combo
Rosewood sounds “softer” to me
Is there really a difference in the feeling? Which one do you prefer?
I got dark night with rosewood it comes tomorrow

Not sure why I always have an impression of hearing nylon strings getting hit and muffled with these new strat line ups.
Love the tone! Im trying to decide between the American Original 60s Strat or the Professional II. This sounds great for 500$ cheaper. What are your thoughts?? Thank you, keep it up
Difference is playability vs tone. This is designed to be max easy to play, rolled edges, etc.

you should also consider & try an MIJ Traditional 60`s.. also superbly crafted and sweet playing
Rosewood sounds like 460 . Maple HD 1080 :)
el maple tiene un ataque brutal
With maple it's clearer and brighter, but when you turn off the lights, everything looks and sound exactly the same.
