Check the exhaust bolts, down pipe bolts, EGR valve if it still has one, original blow off valve, air intake system,, all CV joints, clutch and throughout bearing, condition of coil overs struts all drivetrain mounts, check out change records and present level and colour of oil. Other than all these potential headaches , just buy a new one with a warranty.

Why is ej20 better than 25?
Block is stronger as bored less- yes
Newer design so some improvements- yes
I think the rods are forged?
Generally less stress to smaller bore and shorter stroke?

"Older woman" , "Little Old Lady From Pasadena" (Beach Boys). Better than buying from a 20 year old guy. Getting a unmolested well maintained car takes time and patience. Keep your videos coming.

Im thinking of buying a 2016 wrx with a rebuild title that was damaged in the rear but got everything fix.
It has 24k and its blue with a rear spoiler.
The sales person told me that the check engine light was due to the previous owner upgrading the exhaust.
I'm not really knowledgeable in Subarus and just want your opinion.
Modifications was a short Gloucester, sti rims and has a mention before the exhaust.
Please can you tell me what to look at before buying it.
    Thanks in advance

How would changing the intake require a tune? Can't the stock engine regulate the additional airflow as a net positive? I understand needing a tune for a downpipe, but the intake requiring one doesn't make sense.

I definitely don’t agree with you. My Subaru was bought in Alaska and has seen many winters. There’s absolutely nothing you can do to stop the gravel from melting road to prevent dings on the body. Not everyone can keep their cars garage kept.

I’m sorry but you lost me when you said you’d rather buy a tuned car from someone who took care of it rather then a stock version from an old person. If it’s been tuned it’s been pushed, likely higher then the internals were designed for. Buying a used tuned car is just asking to be screwed over. Correct me if I’m wrong

Pretty sure the fa20 is having its own problems. Most are barely that old and hard to get high hp numbers in aftermarket. If your looking for a good ej just make sure the boost limiter pill is in the car and tgvs still present. Biggest part don’t buy from an idiot.

My 2018 Outback CVT runs great, the 2007 Chevy Malibu CVT failed at 225,000 miles, replaced it, I don't like the gear ratio at all. It's a A to B work week car, Outback is for the weekend

LAVAcf I know how to drive stick. I choose to drive auto because I hate sitting in bumper to bumper traffic and construction traffic. Plus I suffer from migraines and when I get one I don’t want to be dealing with shifting gears when my head feels like it will explode. I just want to get home as fast as possible and hide in the dark.
