    One for the fellow Merc 55k owners. Not a fun video but hopefully helpful to anyone who wants a better idea of what to do and how it all comes apart. When you remove your supercharger, make sure you re-grease the bearings at the rear of the supercharger. They do not have an oil feed and dry out after approx 70k miles, 100k km and start to wear out faster. Also change the supercharger oil, it only takes 10 minutes £15 ish - Mobil Jet II Oil - www.flyingshop.com . Aydin's video tutorial here - Useful channel to subscribe to if you have a 55K. • How to change your sup...
    Symptoms - Car had an occasional misfire due to poor mixture. Thought it might be coil packs, changed plugs etc.
    Finally found the issue. We reset the throttle body on STAR and it was overcompensating because air was getting in somewhere else. Occasional smell of fuel too. To confirm, had a smoke test which revealed a boost leak between the supercharger and head, plus two injector o-rings.
    -This is a short video showing the basics for anyone thinking of DIY.

      pelister__ No worries bud, it’s a lot easier than it looks. Just take your time and use new gaskets, o-rings and a decent sealant for the SC! Cheers, Tom

    I used four 150 mm M8 threaded rods on the four outer screw holes of the engine block to hold the gaskets in place and to perfectly align the compressor back on when I removed it for a 82 mm throttle body upgrade. Then I screwed 4 of the bolts in and removed the rods and finished it up.

      That's a good idea to keep everything aligned! :-)

    Hi guys is there a easier way of getting to the bypass throttle body without removing the supercharger or is it a supercharger off job

    • @SpeedingTube
      @SpeedingTube  Год назад +1

      Given the age of these Mercs, take it all apart and renew gaskets, injector o rings etc to save revisiting the job anytime soon.

    Hi guys picked up unmetered air leak fault on left bank ,did a water test and seem to be sucking air at the rear of the supercharger below the intake ,we assumed it was the supercharger and block gasket and replaced it but the problem is still there ,cud it be between the supercharger and intercooler

    • @SpeedingTube
      @SpeedingTube  2 года назад +1

      Yes, there is a small pipe and seal between the two. Best take it apart and refresh all the seals, huge difference.

    Excellent video showing the process.
    How many bolts hold the SC onto the head? What is the red stuff you add to the heads?

    • @SpeedingTube
      @SpeedingTube  8 лет назад +1

      +Crazee111 Hi, it could have been more in depth but most of it is pretty straightforward. There are 10 bolts in total from memory. The red stuff on the heads was rubber grease. I used it for the injector o-rings and we used it to locate the gaskets as they slip around a bit when you locate the supercharger on top. It also helps to form a better seal. Using copper grease with aluminium isn't great where tolerances are tight as copper and aluminium react and corrode over time which could lift a seal on the port faces.

    The surge tank's, (with AMG logo) 20Nm is wrong.
    Information from WIS:
    For “Crankcase ventilation, cylinder head cover:
    Cylinder head cover bolt” 9Nm.

      9nm is the cam/rocker cover torque (WIS cylinder head cover) surge tanks are 20Nm

    How do you reset the throttle body to recalibrate?

  • @saleczar007
    @saleczar007 8 лет назад +1

    how did you reset the throttle body?
    I'm having similar issues. Can you also describe your smoke test?

    • @SpeedingTube
      @SpeedingTube  8 лет назад +1

      +saleczar007 Hi Bud, the throttle body reset is done in STAR with live logging, you then watch the live data and see how much it's adjusting. I'm not sure what you mean by describe the smoke test so I'll elaborate both that may apply. The smoke test is a test where you block the throttle body with a plug that has a pipe running through the middle (sealed) with smoke pumped through it. If you have any leaks, the smoke will start to come out. The actual smoke test in my case showed a leak between the supercharger and nearside head so I knew it had to come off. Since putting it all back together the car has driven perfectly. Don't forget to re-grease the rear supercharger bearings when it's off. Any further questions, feel free to ask.

      Thanks. I was lucky enough to have a bit of help as three of my friends work at Mercedes. Looking back I'd have done the video differently and broke each step down further but I only had a 8gb memory card back then! ha.

    Hi mate, quick question as I think one of my gaskets is leaking and causing a air squeak which goes away with a little wd-40! I am removing my sc this week and just wondering did anything leak out when you removed the coolant pipes from the sc? Did you have to top anything up? Cheers

    • @SpeedingTube
      @SpeedingTube  7 лет назад

      You'll need to top up the coolant level when you refit the SC as it shares the engine coolant circuit. Plug off the flow/return coolant pipes for the SC and you will save it leaking everywhere. I used approx 1 litre of coolant to top up the system after. You simply top it up using the main expansion tank. On the top alloy coolant pipe for the SC there's a small rubber cap. Remove it and fill to the correct level until coolant flows out so you know most of the air is out. Good luck.

      @martinr9718 7 лет назад

      Alright doesnt sound too bad, should I refill while car is on or off? Also does the throttle body need to removed? Cheers for getting back, always best to ask the experienced ones!

    • @SpeedingTube
      @SpeedingTube  7 лет назад

      Martin R Engine off, you're only filling the chargecooler again and letting the air escape. You don't have to remove the TB but whilst you're in there and have everything apart you may as well replace everything so it's done 😎

      Really appreciate your time to reply speedingtube! Just wanted to make sure as with radiator bleeding engine is on (as you probably know) will have a crack at it tomorrow if the weather will be nice enough :)

    • @SpeedingTube
      @SpeedingTube  7 лет назад

      I'm sure having the engine on won't hurt either to push air out. From memory I think I did both but there wasn't any air left when I did it running...must have made it's way back to the expansion tank. Good luck, Tom.

      So sorry bud but I can't recall now as this was such a long time ago. I think it was to just hold things in place. The best channel for info on the M113k is "SK8215" That guy has stripped a whole engine so will provide better insight than mine!

      Give Paul at Eurocharged UK or Asad / Sarim at MSL in Birmingham a call. They're always bolting Weistec chargers on 55k's so they might know of one that's up for grabs!
