The bugs were over there, can't blame me when my Arc Thrower goes astray
Last night I saw a bot swing at my ass so i immediately dived, whipped around and fired my plasma shotty before i had even hit the ground... Only to see it fly through the spot the now dead bot occupied and hit the helldiver that just saved my life in the face. This all happened within the span of a second and it was hilarious. He wasnt even mad, and even complimented me on my reflexes. I love this game.
Reminds me of my last active friendly fire accident, if not as hilarious, still fun. During my early levels, running the breaker and being chased by a spewer on evac, currently reloading. The spewer then decides to spit and I narrowly avoid it with a dive, whip around and unload on the poor diver who manifested between me and the spewer.
I stopped after two shots, but my mag dumps, also dont take very long

I was mag dumping into a bunch of those clankers and suddenly a diver runs out of the group that he had been avoiding right into my automatic sidearm fire, turns out it also works really well for helldivers
Someone I was playing with decided to walk straight into my line of fire while I was actively firing. Needless to say, he didn't have a head afterward.

Just imagine how terrifying helldivers actually are to their enemies. Just 4 guys drop in and take over an entire battlefield guys and they die not from your side but from friendly fire and then more just keep on coming.
The next album is from the Automatons perspective and that comes up a few times. From their perspective it's the players that are infinite!
I used to wonder how deploying only 4 helldivers at a time could make sense. My head canon is that it's to limit casualties from friendly fire.

My years of Touhou have come in useful as I dodge automaton and friendly fire while utilising the Joestar family technique screaming "Liberty save us!"
no seriously playing Touhou helps a lot with bugs more than bots, because the bugs have predictable patterns instead of the wall of bullets that is bots. I think Touhou players are going to do really well against the Illuminate though

Had a moment where I was shooting my Arc Thrower at the automatons, it was going really well, I was the only helldiver nearby, and suddenly one bolt arced AROUND a rock/small mountain and absolutely obliterated my teammate.
That is when I thought about the line "And lastly there's Max with that fucking Arc Thrower" and couldn't relate more lol.
Had that happen with bugs and instead one it was everybody else somehow but that just happens for democracy

Switch out the cluster strike for a mortar turret and play against bugs and you get the perfect build.

Don't flank the arc-thrower. Call out your strategems. Keep aware of your flanks. Never danger-close a grenade. Place gun sentries behind walls and mark them. Be forgiving when your friend still just guns down the back of your head with their primary shotgun.
Also people can't see gas for some reason so watch out with those specifically

Something I only noticed after a few rewatches/hearings:
The (full) song talks about 4 different Helldivers, but also includes the one who sings who uses phrases such as "WE dive and WE duck" or "leaves my body cold".
Now, since Helldivers can only be a squad of up to 4 (at the current time, who knows what the future holds), something doesn't quite add up.
A thought that came whilst writing this comment is that it might be one of the enemies, but no, that would not quite fit the theming of "friendly fire isn't".
Instead my first thought, the one that made me write this comment in the first place, is probably a bit more fitting. Namely, that the one who sings this song is one of the Divers sung about.
We can exclude Max, as he is using an arc thrower and as far as I can tell, that thing can't kill the user.
Leaving John, Jane and Lou.
They're all mentioned in third person, allowing the disregarding of it. But John and Jane are additionally once combined in "their aims overblown", leaving Lou as a possible candidate, especially since he is one sung about in its own verse.
Now, why could one think Lou is the one singing this? For one, the "official" lyrics of this song in the pinned @EndlessTaverns comment has the quite a bit of speech (demonstrated by " " ) "They kill them all, you'll see" and "Thanks to Lou, this is my personal Hell". The only other verse that has speech is "oh fuck, a grenade!" (Can I get a reinforce?). Not a lot to go on, but it is also the only time in the song there was an excuse for anything: "promising safety" and "they can't really tell". And if anything, who better to make someones time in Helldivers a >>personal

I love everything about your theory! A lot of my songs are references from stuff that's happened in game! John and Jane are a reference to me and my partner, I've autocannoned her on accident and her guard dog has killed both of us a few times. The 2nd half of the song was written after it got so popular, so the name Lou is just a reference to a d&d character of mine, and the situation we found ourselves in when we all brought multiple sentries for the first time and created our own personal hell for extraction. Max is the unsung hero and random 4th in our squad that kept accidently zapping us. Ohsighres, the voice of 97.1 FM Freedom Radio is the one that say "that fucking arc thrower" after dying one too many times.
