The version on the DVD is pretty much as record in tempo and key. I think the upload has changed sample rate, sped up a shit load and stepped up about a tone. Get the DVD it's nasty versions all the way through x
Why compare? This is a great version - I doubt if Marvin were still alive and recorded it live in 2002 it wouldnt be as good as the original. Stop being over critical and enjoy. No, you're not always right..
James Jamerson, the greatest bassist of all time, is not there. That is why it is not as good. Also Marvin Gaye is 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 times better than Ben Harper. Marvin would have made sure the band played it slower. Marvin wasn't just a great singer, he was a producer, composer and had control over the tempo of the band. Watch the live performance of "What's going on" the video with Marvin Gaye and James Jamerson, and you will see greatness.
Ben Harper performs this song better than anyone! Love the Funk Brothers...
Ben always has been a fine fine vocalist
Excellent 🔥🔥🔥
People shouldn't compare singers. Marvin was in a league of his own, but so is Ben..Really, fantastic singers the both of 'em.
looove it!

@BigAndo21 He never tried to be the new Marvin he took his own way and he succeded this was a "hommage" to Mr Marvin Gay ....
Bad Azzes
@BigAndo21 Damn!! sorry bro I wrote on the wrong place ...
Ben harper is reincarnation of david ruffin and marvin gaye
even though the band sounds great... i can't but help and feel that they are rushing... maybe its cause i prefer this song a little slower
